So,
I’ve been working on a skillwire/rigged driver concept.
I know the biggest drawback to skillwire is that you can’t use edge on those rolls.

How vital is edge?
Can a character get by on 0?

He’s a horrible gambler, addicted to it, but has bad luck and no edge score.

Think he’d live?

Honestly, IMO, your character is not long for this world.
Remove the gambling addiction, and I can see your character possibly surviving.

As for no Edge, a character would be more dependent on backup plans and information.

It is a flavorful idea however.

I’m one of those damn snowflakes that likes challenged characters lol.

I want mid grade(4) skillware and a control rig 1or2
Everything he does is from softs.
He’s a troll so his natural attributes carry him through.

I just thought it would be fun to see how far I could go with no luck at all.

What about the other end of the spectrum. All edge.
Max edge human with lucky and exceptional attribute Edge(?)
Might be a fun Rigger or Technomancer.

Sometimes the dice get ... playful.  Edge can sure help you pull through when that happens. That said, missions generally not pushed too hard (given that they never know what the group will be like), so it may be possible.  I did go through online play of a couple of missions with a character with the Bad Luck negative quality, where using edge would be a last resort, and got through the two missions without using edge.  Hardly optimal, but you don't really need to be optimal for missions IMO.

Mind you, how would you manage zero edge?  You start off with at least one point.

Skillwires can be rough because it can be hard to get enough of a dice pool to reliably do things you want to do, which is compounded by the fact that you can't edge those roles to throw some extra luck when you get a bad roll or are making an extra important one.

Conversely, making high edge characters often suffer from lacking base dicepools to do the things you want to do without edging everything, and when built to edge everything, you realize quick that 6-8 edged rolls can go fast and then leave you edgeless and not so competent.

The only skillwire primary concept that gets dicepools high enough are technomancer machine sprite boosted wires. Basically, you can get another +4 dice and some limit bonus on your R4 skillsofts. This shifts likelihoods of success up quite a bit.

High Edge characters work if combined with another narrow focus--like a high charisma/skilled face. Another option is to go go full on edge-murderer (playable in certain games), basically building around Revels in Murder. Don't forget to add Daredevil and Common Sense for some high edge metagaming mechanics!
