So as you all may know, the sample characters (or archetypes as the book calls them) in SR5 aren't exactly street legal. Since people are apparently allowed to pick a sample character for their first Mission if they haven't decided on what to play yet, and I'm not sure when the errata will come out, it seemed prudent to figure out what the transgressions are and how to fix them. (And even at a normal table, we want to avoid players getting upset because their street samurai isn't nearly as awesome as the archetype, or because they picked an archetype that's actually weaker than it should be rules-wise.)
So far I've reverse-engineered the first 5 archetypes (the combat mage was especially weird: despite how the image looks, the attribute distribution only left room for a Human with Attributes B, as Strength is too low for a Troll, Charisma is too low for an Elf, and a Dwarf or Ork would have 28-13 = 15 Attribute points spent - however, with the way the Priorities turned out, the archetype should have 7 Edge if a Human): more later. It's also likely I've made some mistakes: if so, please point them out.

Do you require the cybereyes for the Covert Operator? I can see getting the later after some cash flow, but your visual enhancements aren't high rated and you could easily put them in some contacts or goggles.

Since cybereyes are almost 10 times as contacts or googles, they are a more solid and versatile option.

cre100382: it's possible the cybereyes are there mostly for the smartlink. However, this topic isn't about improving upon the sample characters, but more of a fan project to make them rules-compliant so you don't have to feel bad about (your players) using them. For the Street Samurai, you need to cut so much it's almost the same, but the Covert Operative only needs an adjustment to her starting funds to be rules-compliant.
Chance359: annnd you just made me realize I failed to multiply the 3200¥ fake-licenses part of each fake SIN by 4, so my numbers are off - it's actually 52.8k, not 43.2k, which means he'd need to shave off another 9.6k with my calculations. In comparison, I think you're off by only 200 (26.4k, not 26.6k), and that's probably due to the XX,200 in my numbers.
Anyway, if I'm adding those new numbers up right, that puts him at 478,280 spent, which means only 8.3k more would need to be shaved off to be legal - I'd say either drop Lifestyle to Low (saves 3x3k=9k), or drop 1 month, drop the R3 Medkit, and find the remaining 2,530 elsewhere (dropping down to a Rating 3 Commlink already saves 2k).

FINALLY finished - I had to cut out 700 characters to get that post under the 20k character limit, and then another 400 because when you try to save your edit, newlines count as an extra character compared to the preview. Anyway, they're all done, with some noted things: I haven't checked the limits, nor the weapons (apparently some have the Ares Predator V at 7P/-2 instead of 8P/-1, just to name something), and it's possible I made mistakes (I only realized while posting archetype 14 I'd mistaken Skills B's 36/5 for 38/5, for one).
So now that I'm done, I'd like to take this time to express my befuddlement at the archetypes: the layout differs for some; some are off by a few nuyen, some by several thousand; some list accessories that come included in the weapon's price, some don't; most include their ammo in the weapon, while one or two list them seperately... it's a little annoying, to be honest. :-\

I'm transferring your changes to sheets for ease of download (as they are some good ways to change the arcehtypes). Right now I'm working on the Bounty Hunter. My question for you is why not take 1000 off the starting cash and bring the bow and arrows back up to rating 8? It matches the bow and arrow to the strength of the bounty hunter. And it only "loses" 116 from the original template. I'll PM you the links so you can double check my math before I post them.

Fortunately for bows, they are cheap enough (even a Rating 10 with an internal smartgun system is 2,000¥, 12R Availability, and 20¥, 10 Availabilty, per arrow) that you can generally just save the nuyen you'd otherwise spend on them during chargen, and obtain them within a week.

Wow! Great project! This was one of the first things that rankled me when I got my copy of SR5. I would go to the sample characters as a reference to see if I understood how a rule would work and then notice that the samples were fudged.

Quick note about the archetype Decker: Hack On The Fly is not a valid specialization of the hacking skill, according to the skill listing on page 145. It should be Devices, Files, Hosts, or Personas. I'd pick Hosts and change his Codeslinger quality to Hack on the Fly.

Removed the mini-math in my second post to create character space, fixed the Yamaha Raiden (also the one for the Drone Rigger: one drone said it was using it when it was actually using an Ares Alpha) and added the specialization note for the Decker.

Just now noticed I never gave a Missions-only replacement for Code of Honor for the Weapons Specialist: Bad Luck didn't seem handy with 5 Edge, and she's too professional for Biased, so I just went with an Allergy (10- or 15-point Allergies seem to be my go-to 'fix' for the archetypes). As for the Decker, I decided to up her Allergy to Moderate and give her Codeblock (Reboot Device): it's an action she'll occasionally want to take, and it doesn't go against her fluff description ("she destroys her enemies' weapons and equipment": rebooting is a more 'friendly' action than "destroying").

Went digging into this again to create fixed pregens for the upcoming (well, in progress for me) convention season. Discovered that the rigger is actually a lot more broken than she appeared at first blush. In addition to what ZeConster found:
Issues
- No RCC
- No Autosofts
- Illegal mod (hot sim) for commlink (availability 12 for a Transys Avalon +4F for hot-sim mod breaks the Availability cap
- Ammo count off

- Changed Rover 2072 to GMC Bulldog
- Dropped automotive repair facility to shop
- Kept Lifestyle at Middle but dropped 2 pre-paid months, dropped Obscure and Special Work Area options per guidance in FAQ
- Purchased Vulcan Liege Lord RCC
- Purchased 1 copy each of Clearsight and EW Autosofts (R6)
- Purchased Maneuver autosofts for all drones and Bulldog (R6)
- Purchased Stealth autosofts (R6) for Optic-X2, Fly-Spies and Kanmushi
- Purchased Targeting Autosofts (R6) for all mounted weapons
- Standardized drone and vehicle-mounted weapons at 250 rounds of appropriate type including Taser darts (grenades unchanged)
- Cleaned up small errors (erroneous Yamaha Raiden reference, fixed DVs for weapons, etc.

First of all, he answered the question you asked, and explained why. There was no intent to insult you present. In fact, what he posted is pretty much how my reverse-engineering process worked.
Second, even if he had deliberately insulted you, how does that reflect on the community as a whole?
Third, what does your local gaming store have to do with someone on the internet being insulting? Unless you actually think Michael works for Catalyst, which he doesn't - being part of the "Demo team" is like having a supermarket savings card.

I'm playing a rigger in my campaign and been using the sample rigger a guild while creating my own. I was going to make some of the suggestions you made but I do have one question,are the autosofts loaded into the drones them selves or are they running on the RCC per the sharing programs rule? If there running on the drones then how many can i run on each one? I'm finding the rules are a little unclear on the device rating of drones.

The autosofts are running on a drone the drone OR on the RCC, it's your choice. You can have your RCC share autosofts with some of your drones while other drones run their own autosofts.
A drone has a number of slots to use for autosofts and cyberprograms equal to half its Device Rating, rounded up.
The Device Rating of a drone is the same as its Pilot Rating.

OK using changes to the riggers gear list suggested by ZeConster and Belker with a few of my own I ended up with 34,850 nuyen left over. I didn't buy the extra steel lynx and I got a armored jacket instead of the vest. Unless my math is way off you should be able to keep the three months of lifestyle with the adds ons and the lynx and still have lots left over.

Sorry to be raising this thread from the dead, but I've been entering the archetypes into Chummer 5 and spotted a couple of issues with the versions above:
The Face has no Lifestyle selected - from the suggested starting cash I am guessing he should have a Middle Lifestyle, but he doesn't haver the nuyen available to purchase this.
The Tank is a Troll, and as such should be paying 100% extra for her Lifestyle, i.e. 4000 per month for Low, for a total of 12000, not 6000, leaving her as 7735 underspent, with 17 karma unspent before making the suggested corrections, After buying the Rating 3 Longarms activesoft and the Defiance T-250 with internal smartgun system and 30 rds APDS I make it the Tank has a starting cash of 475 + (3d6 * 60) nuyen and 5 unspent karma.
