Background music

Casazil:
No music on we talk alot and one player would whine he can't hear anything. (yes even at very low barly able to hear levels)

Dead Monky:
I don't put on music much, but when I do I use a lot of noise rock: Melt-Banana, Lightning Bolt, The Locust, Foetus, Butthole Surfers, Deerhoof, Boredoms, etc.  Mostly because it's the main part of my music collection, but also because it often fits surprisingly well.

John Schmidt:
Any group named Butt Hole Surfers will never see any air time in my house.  ;D

Two Steps From Hell has some great background music, you can find it on Amazon in MP3s.

The Bourne Supremacy soundtrack has some decent tracks for chase scenes, track 2 off of Casino Royale is great for that though.

The Dark Knight soundtrack for suspense.

Phil Collins...The Brazilian is good for runners preping their gear.

Stalker:
Funny. Most of the pieces quoted here are titles I'd never use, for one (or both) of these two reasons:

* I almost never use music with dominant lyrics. It's highly distracting, especially if people know the text and start to sing along. Which takes us to the second point...
* I never play music that is very popular or well-known, because players tend to hum along with the song (instead of paying attention to the game). Plus, it may create unwanted comic effects. If you don't believe me, just try to create a serious, menacing atmosphere by playing the Imperial March from Star Wars. Oh, and write me a letter if you succeed! :D
The OSTs of movies and computer games, however, are highly suitable for RPG use. Just off the top of my head: Ghost in the Shell, Metal Gear Solid, Fallout, Max Payne, Iron Man, Unreal Tournament, The Island, Hackers, ... . "Regular" musicians: Vangelis, The Prodigy, Interlace, ... and loads of other artists doing electronic music.

That's on one of the Genesis albums... but  damn good choice.  I like it for more intense scenes as well.  Its got a great buildup and release
