Is that an actual "soon" or is it the 'soon' which is anything but? >:(

Hey gang, here's a quick one for you.

In 2072, the Big Ten were listed in order of largest (in terms of value) to lowest, and that line went like so:

1: Saeder-Krupp
2: NeoNET
3: Mitsuhama Computer Technologies
4: Aztechnology
5: Renraku Computer Systems
6: Ares Macrotechnology
7: Evo Corporation
8: Shiawase Corporation
9: Wuxing Incorporated
10: Horizon

How do you think this ranking will look as we roll into 2078? (The answer will be in Market Panic, of course, but here's your chance to take a stab at it!)

I would go with:

1: Mitsuhama Computer Technologies
2: Saeder-Krupp
3: Aztechnology
4: Renraku Computer Systems
5: Evo Corporation
6: Ares Macrotechnology
7: NeoNet*
8: Shiawase Corporation
9: Horizon
10: Wuxing Incorporated

Edit: *assuming they are still around, still got the feeling they are being set up for something.

Do you believe in a greater WIRELESS, an Invisible(WiFi) All Seeing(detecting those connected- at least if within 100'), All Knowing(all online data) Presence that we can draw upon for Wisdom(downloads & updates), Strength (wifi boni) and Comfort (porn) or do you turn your back on it  (Go Offline)?

Honestly the big question is if there are still 10, or has the fallout from Boston really toppled one of the AAAs?

I really can't imagine anything that would cause more corporate shadow work than an empty seat on the Corporate Court.

Ares had a major shakeup over a faulty rifle.  Evo's mars base may have been the source of headcases.
As far as who should fall either due to consumer confidence or corporate consensus seems clear.

Ares also has bugs.

Moreover, Excalibur didn't hurt Ares Arms. The utterly incompetent and catastrophic response did. It's had a decade of its own "home" country actively not buying its products when possible, has never gotten traction in Asia even when/after one of the biggest local competitors was destroyed during the dragon conflict, and Aztechnology has arguably proven its weapons as superior through actual military success, which one might presume speaks loudly in the arms market.

Then look at AresSpace. World leader in aerospace and yet it was completely left out of the space elevator project.

But as someone mentioned (on another thread, I guess), they are still holding all of those loans that Bank of America purchased to leverage control over CATCo and paying them off now that they own a lot of those CATCo assets. They can't just spin off the debts into separate entities and write them off because Ares is its own biggest creditor.

I very much doubt Gagarin was the source of CFD; the facility in Albuquerque that Fastjack and Riser and the rest of the gang raided seems a much more plausible source.

And I'm confident the Boston situation will play a big role in which Megacorp ends up falling. NeoNET, EVO, and Aztechnology (in that order) all have a stake in that particular kerfuffle as members of Project Vulcan, and if the information about the project were to leak out I'd wager one of those takes the fall.

I'd be personally astonished if S-K, Ares, or Horizon goes down, though the latter certainly has had their public perception changed between the loss in Amazonia and the technomancer massacre. I'd also consider it unlikely that MCT, Renraku, or Shiawase would falter significantly, and Wuxing doesn't seem to have a lot going on in the public eye these days.

Sader-Krupp is likely taking a hit in terms of ranking what with the fallout from the Dragon Civil War and all of the frenemies ganging up on Lofwyr himself. What the top 10 will look like is impossible to say simply because one of the big 10 might not be there anymore. If I had to guess, I'd rank them accordingly:
1: NeoNET
2: Saeder-Krupp
3: Aztechnology
4: Shiawase Corporation
5: Mitsuhama Computer Technologies
6: Renraku Computer Systems
7: Wuxing Incorporated
8: Ares Macrotechnology
9: Horizon
10: Unknown

I'd hedge my bets that EVO goes down simply because NeoNET has the most incentive to blame someone else involved in Project Vulcan, and with the Monad taking over Gagarin it seems like EVO is the corp with the most negative public perception recently. If NeoNET can spin the event in their favour I could see them coming out on top.

Huh?

While they totally can spin such loans off into separate companies, they sure have little point in doing so first because it would be hard to find a buyer for a borrowing position with no collateral assets, and then because it would be totally pointless for them to sell borrowing positions they happen to be the lender to someone who could actually default for real

The Ares group is the lender and the borrower here. First, they own the bank: BoA could simply grants new loans to Cross former companies indefinitely to allow them to repay older loans (what is usually shortened as "renegotiating") and keep things going foreover. Then, in the possible situation such loans would go beyond what banking regulations allow BoA to perform (I assume such regulations still exist, ikely in the hands of the Corporate Court), the Cross former companies could simply default on their loans, and BoA file a petition of "involuntary bankruptcy" to foreclose on any available assets. Which would just move assets from one part of Ares to another.

Except for the part where debt needs to be repaid with karma along with the nuyen, I don't know about anything that would make things different in SR.
