- Setting/timeline: I'm running SR4, so we're around 2070-2074. I'm not a Shadowrun-Canon-Encyclopedia and stuff I come up with may or may not make sense in the world. The Amazon war probably won't come up, but it's still ongoing. Nanotechnology and genetech are working as written in SR4; not broken, infectious and dangerous like SR5.
- Stick 'n Shock rounds can only be used in Shotguns.
- Called Shots made with a Sniper Rifle in SS or SA only give half the dice pool penalty they normally would (round down).
- Take Aim actions made with a Sniper Rifle fired in SS or SA are limited to your weapon skill instead of only half your weapon skill.
- Take Aim actions made with a Sports Rifle give +2 dice instead of +1. The maximum modifier gained this way can not be higher than your weapon skill.
- Emotisoft/toys are banned with extreme prejudice! Characters attempting to get them at chargen will receive 160BP's worth of negative qualities. Attempts to get or make them in-game get you served as a side-dish to a Great Dragon.
- Softweave armor mod is banned. --It's not generally that bad, but can easily get too cheesy and there's no real reason to have it in game.--
- War!: 'Slow' spell is banned. (It's actually already been errata’d out in the German books.)
- War!: MRSI, works with mortars and artillery, probably also with a well coordinated missile attack. It does NOT work with grenade launchers or bows!
- Software Degradation for Hacked Programs: Instead of the normal Programming(<degradation rating>,1 week), characters can instead choose either Programming(5x<degradation rating>, 1 day) or Programming(10x<degradation rating>, 1 day). The first involves quick (and sometimes sloppy) work which allows bugs or worse to get into the programming on glitches, the slower way involves a lot more checking and doesn't cause such errors on normal glitches (critical glitches may still cause bugs, but their overall effect will be lessened too).
- Mystic Adepts follow the rules as written in SR4A, NOT the stuff mentioned in the SR4 FAQ. (I don't consider this a houserule but I'll mention it regardless.)
- Combat: It is possible to aim for non-lethal attacks with lethal weapons, just try not to glitch ;). Examples are shooting people in their limbs to slow/cripple/incapacitate them or to bust someones nose to intimidate them, with far decreased chances of accidentally ending up killing them. This will usually involve splitting damage between Stun and Physical and/or using Called Shots to lower damage instead of increasing it and not adding net hits to damage. The base damage + net hits etc. still count for the purpose of piercing armor/barriers.
Things like this will be dealt with case by case, please request & describe what you want to accomplish first. Just know that if it's reasonable, it's an option. (Reasonable meaning this like: No, this shouldn’t be tried with Assault Canons, Grenade or Missile Launchers.)
- Combat: Characters doing Unarmed Physical damage (Bone lacing, Hardliner, etc.) can do Stun damage instead by holding their punches, doing -2 Stun damage.
- Extended Tests receive a cumulative -1 dice modifier to each test after the first, unless mentioned otherwise by the GM.
- (Mystic) Adepts can get PP instead of a Metamagic feat when they initiate.
- Advanced Combat Rules in Arsenal (p161) are included too. I’ll admit to sometimes forget/overlook them and am not prepared to lose lots of time looking it up for every attack, just know that shooting at microdrones tends to be tougher than shooting at trucks and that strong people can handle more recoil. Stuff that makes sense, you know.
- Other Optional rules: I'll allow quite a few, ask me for specifics if they come up, I’ll try telling you when they come up too. Springing to mind at the moment:
- Direct Combat Spells get +2 drain.
- Elemental Spells get -1 drain.
- Rules about Notoriety, Public Awareness, etc. have been cut out of the book and thrown out of the window. The concepts still exist but when and how they come into play will be up to the GM.
- Licences:
-- Weapons: One per weapon category (or at least, the R-rated weapons)  + one for concealed carry. (For categories, just look at the skills: pistol / automatic / rifle /...)
-- Bio/cyberware: One per restricted item.
-- Other items: One per job/cover/category. What makes a category? Let's say your SIN says you're a wildlife photographer. Then you might get away with putting chameleon gear (so the animals don't see you), shock frills (protection vs. predators), maybe even a laser microphone (find out if something's in that nest), grapple gun (to get to difficult places) and some gas (protection vs. predators) in a single license. You will have a hard time explaining why you need anti-technological or lockpicking items with the same license, though.
-- A drivers licence or stuff like that don't need to be bought, they're part of your (fake) SIN.

ENFORCED PLAYER ACTIVITY:
Respect your GM and your fellow players. We're all putting in an effort to make this game fun for everyone involved. For every day you do not post, 5 other people also waste a day.
I expect posts daily, preferably more than once if possible.
But I realize there is a thing called RL and can understand if sometimes that's not possible and skipping a day on occasions can happen, though preferably not too often.
Warn ahead of time when RL intervenes because of work, holiday, family, sickness or whatever.
If taking one minute to post "I'm sick/on vacation/swamped with work and won't be able to post next XXX." on OOC is too much of an effort to ask for, then don't expect me to make an effort running a game for you. It's disrespectful to the rest of the group.

If there's been no message:
Player inactivity for longer than 2 days will mean your character either doesn't do a thing or is controlled by me, as I see fit in the situation. I won't like it very much when this happens and I'll like it even less if when you come back, you complain about what your character did or didn't do. (If you're reading and just waiting for someone else to do something, say something entertaining in OOC to let us know you're alive.)
Inactivity longer beyond that will lead to warnings and being booted.

PLEASE KEEP THE NEXT 5 POSTS FREE FOR CHARACTERS SHEETS ONLY.
Format of the post:
First I want to clearly read your Character name (both real name and nickname), 'role', (perceived) race, age, weight, height.
Then I want a description of what your character typically looks like plus maybe some typical quirks or mannerism (always has a cigar in his mouth, constantly twitchy and looking around as if paranoid, ...) if they apply.
Then in spoiler tags, the character sheet.
In the charsheet, give your Contacts a (brief) description/explanation of who they are and what they're involved in. The higher their loyalty or the higher their connection the more I need to know. Add quirks or behavior if you think they should have 'em.
Make it nice and easy to read, please. A short description of your 'ware or powers "Synthacardium (Rating 2), +2 Athletics" would be nice, too. Same with qualities that might benefit from this or might need more explanation. (How much Debt left and to whom, which enemy, etc.)

More IC rules:
Please keep IC clean. I'm a big fan of clean. I like reading clean IC's and get upset when they're not clean.
This means I want any rolls done at the end of the posts in quote tags.say/do.
If there's questions you (and not your character) needs to ask, I prefer you keep them in OOC unless you -really- think they belong in IC (they don't) because they're clearer to read or understand there (they aren't).
In any IC post you make, if at all possible, in the bottom quote tags, roll "Just in case" dice like this: JiC: 30d6.hits(5)[2,6,5,2,3,6,5,1,4,3,1,3,4,4,2,3,6,1,3,2,5,6,6,3,1,1,3,3,6,2] = (9).
I'll use these dice should I need a roll you don't know about. If you don't post it, I will roll 'em for you. 20-30 dice should be enough for me to use.
I also REALLY want your character's name/nick at least once in every post. If you can't come up with a way to write it in, just start the post with "<name>: <return>" and then do your post.
Did I mention I like a clean IC?
Also please use different colors for different modes of conversation (speech, comms, ...) and put thoughts in Italic. Use colors that aren't blinding.
Interruptions: PbP's don't really make it easy to interrupt events, but that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't do so. If you read something that your character would interrupt, say so in OOC and we'll see if we can fix it with some editing. eg. when a NPC is going through a long monologue and you want to interrupt his speech by shouting something or shooting him in the face; or when I write "You all drive for 3 long, boring and uneventful hours and arrive at a wooden barn in the middle of nowhere" but you decide your character wants to jump out of the moving car an hour after they started driving.

Charley is rather short, compared to those who aren't a Dwarf but he is about mid range in height for his kind.  He has black hair and beard.  On just about any occasion he can be seen with dark sunglasses on.  He likes his cigars now and then.  He has many tattoos that can be seen if he ever has his armor and shirt off.  His cybereyes are cosmetic and look natural.   The lines on his face aren't so much from age but from his experiences and exposure to harsh elements from deployments.   He's been known to squint when looking at someone when he's sizing them up. 




== Background ==

Charley grew up in Seattle.  He was lucky that he had two loving parents unlike many of his friends.  When he was thirteen his mom passed away.  The massive heart attack was unexpected.   With his mom gone he began to get into some trouble as a teen.  His dad, still an active marine, didn't have the time needed to spend with Charley to make sure he stayed out of trouble.   Two years later his dad retired and began straightening his sons ass out. 

Charley joined the military following in his dads footsteps.  After 20 years of service and countless deployments he retired honorably.  Hadn't intended to go into running the shadows but Leady, an old service buddy of his called.  He knew of a job that needed a demo man.  That job started his career as a shadowrunner.  Jobs that needed an experienced man who not only knew how to shoot but blow things up worked well for him.  He finally got a Fixer and jobs filtered their way to him.  An important trait was passed down from his father to him.  Dedication to family.  What he's learned over the years is that family comes in many different forms.  It doesn't matter if blood, forged in service, or made on the streets.  If he considers you family you have a friend for life.

[spoiler] Mr. Thy Le. He's and eccentric Japanese man.  Likes to think of himself as a runner turned fixer which is as far from the truth as can be.   He's wealthy, well connected ex corporate man who left the corp scene (Renraku).   Why he wasn't killed when he left no one knows.  One can only assume that he has some info that if it got out out it would be bad news all around.  Rumors are that it has to do with the shutdown some years ago.   Boomer has been doing some runs for Mr. Le for about 5 months.   Knows Boomer is a runner.

== Background ==
As a boy, Jeff always wanted to be a cop. He wanted to bring justice to the sprawl. On his eighteenth birthday, he managed to get into Knight Errant's basic training program, and was identified as an adept, with strong analytical talents. This got him transferred from basic patrol training to detective training. To Jeff's mind, this was even better. Once he completed the detective training, he found himself transferred to Seattle during the changeover from Lone Star. One of the jobs he found himself saddled with was to weed out any criminal element within the remaining Lone Star officers. This assignment was where he met his partner, Jake. Jake was an older beat cop who knew where the bodies were buried in his precinct that had been passed over once too often by his well-connected superior. Jeff requested the man as his partner before his own investigation was even halfway through. For a year or two, the pair made a great team, Jake providing street-smarts, and connections to get the information to close the case, and Jeff putting the pieces of the puzzle together to present the final product to their bosses. Until the Lesker case, that is. The niece of a KE exec had been killed, and Jeff and Jake were assigned the case. Much of the early evidence pointed towards gang violence, but the rest of the evidence pointed towards a paid job. Jake wanted to just bust the gangers, and leave it at that, having seen how much getting to the truth had cost detectives before. Jeff wouldn't let it go, and eventually managed to prove that it was the exec's brother who had paid the gangers to keep his daughter quiet about some things that her father had been into. Jeff jumped the chain to present his evidence, and Phillip Lesker's brother was arrested and tried for paying for the hit. Phillip was demoted for covering up his brother's activities. Jeff, however, ended up on the streets because Phillip's demotion made him the immediate superior of the detective who had cost him so much. Now unable to do much more than get a part-time job at Stuffer Shack, Jeff has taken to turning his talents and skills to private practice, which brushes him against the shadows on a regular basis. His last case brought him into contact with plenty of the strange and weird, and resulted in him undergoing dracomorphosis, as well as the new ability to cast spells. Now, he's looking to dive deeper into the shadows, because it's only a matter of time before somebody finds out, and knowing his luck, it'll be his worst enemy.

The Street Doc (Jimmy) is someone he heard about from one of the Cogs members. He showed up one day and just kept coming on a somewhat regular basis, so they got to knowing each other and Rat often comes to him when he gets injured and he has the money for it. Also, Jimmy sometimes lets Rat know if some interesting piece of mod comes in. Jimmy knows Rat deals with weapons, but doesn't know specifically what Rat does.

The Cogs is the gang that owns Rat.

The Fixer (Charley) is a Dwarf he was tailing once. Charley noticed Rat was tailing him and ambushed him, wiping the floor with Rat. Rat was so impressed by the man's fighting style he just outright asked him to train him. Charley, impressed by the young Ork's boldness, agreed and saw that Rat had some decent skills, so he suggested running the shadows. Rat didn't think anything would come out of that, but he eventually found employment and a relationship based on money and jobs completed was born.

The Street Worker (Zhang Yi) is a girl he rescued once from a violent customer. While Rat was with her, a man came storming through the doors, looking to injure the girl. Rat, not having finished his business with Yi, defended her from the angry John. From then on, Yi called on Rat whenever she needed help with customers and, in return, Rat got free "companionship" and information on whatever interesting things the girl might hear. Yi does not know anything about Rat's running; she only knows he lives close to where she works.[/spoiler]

Personality/background Mickey grew up an orphan in Seattle's rough-end. Abandoned by his parents probably because they were too young to take care of a baby, he was taken in by a local orphanage. As is too common with these things, Mickey had a hard time fitting in and had no respect for authority. He soon found his way out of the orphanage and into the cold, harsh streets. He survived by making a few friends and stealing for a living.

When he was 14, he tried to steal a shipment of novacoke from one of the gangs (the Cogs) with a few friends. The trio would have made it if it wasn’t for their wheelman getting caught while escaping. At the time Mickey couldn’t drive, which proved his downfall. Caught on foot a few blocks away from their getaway vehicle, Mickey was brought in for a severe beating; the beating of his life, actually. His life was spared, however, as someone decided a living rat was more useful than a dead one. He was given another chance at life, but in exchange he would have to win it back through work for the syndicate. He has been working off and on for them, doing whatever they tell him to do, which comes on a weekly basis.

Being caught because he wasn’t able to drive really left a mark on young Mickey and he turned to cybermods to address his shortcomings. In the little time he had for himself, Mickey worked on the side, saving his money to go under the scalpel. Discovering his body had an affinity for cybermodding, he decided to break the bank and fit himself with as much as he could afford. Mickey found a streetdoc that had one piece of exceptionally good chrome considering the neighbourhood, and a loose friendship soon developed between them.

Over the last decade or so, Rat (as he came to be known) did all sorts of jobs, from B&E to tailing people to pickpocketing, either for himself or for the crime syndicate that still owns his life. Shadowrunning is where he wants to eventually end up, but he still has a little ways to go before he can commit himself fulltime to that lifestyle.

While she is rather normal-looking, she is an extremely nosy person, a trait she thinks comes from her mom's side of the family. She often finds herself in rather dangerous situations to get the latest scoops, although a lot of her muckracking stories are met with disdain and censorship.

Personality/Background
Syra was only a young girl when she connected to the Matrix VR for the first time, around the time when Crash 2.0 almost wrecked the minds of those connected to the Matrix. She survived with the ability to interact with Resonance. She first learned the dangers of her new ability when she casually talked about it to her best friend in college, who ended up calling Ares on her for a reward. Much more cautious about her relationships, Syra is now extremely careful in exposing her Resonance abilities.

Ever since she was young, she has always been attracted to two things: journalism and the shadows. Her stories covering local community projects in Downtown Seattle brought her to the attention of a major newscorp who were attracted to her sensible writing style. However, her real goal was to write stories on corporate corruption and espionage. This, unsurprisingly, was met with problems with her employers, who were more than content to stick her to a basic blogging job.

She is determined to chase down stories that interest her, however. After an encounter with an ex-runner, she convinced him to connect her to the shadows, believing it to be a valuable source of stories and headlines.

BestTeaMaker, I still need to know what you chanced on your charsheet to fix the lenses and if you could please add more information to your contacts, that'd be great too.

@All: I have access to and check the forums quite a lot. But ninety percent of the time when I'm on the forums, I don't have access to my books. So if you can find the time to add information to the more 'complicated' things on your charsheets ('ware, powers, qualities), just a brief explanation of what it is and/or its effects on the game rules would be appreciated and makes running this game a lot easier for me.
I know basic things like what Low Light Vision does, Restricted Gear gets you a better piece of equipment (but please add which item you got it for) and Improved Perception (4) is kind of self-explicative. But much as I try, I fail to remember every Paragon/Mentor bonus or drawback's threshold/effects, every piece of 'ware's bonuses and every item's immediate uses.
You don't have to have everything there immediately, but if during the game you come across something in your charsheet of which you think "Hey, I could maybe clarify that a little bit better for my poor GM", please do so.
Ideally, I should be able to find all possible information I need about your characters and their abilities in these five previous posts and be able to play with nothing more than those and some stuff of my own. All the time you save me from digging through rules and books is time I can spend working on the game instead.

I'm not certain if that's an actual option. Couldn't Three Star's DNI just reactivate it? Wouldn't putting 'ware in a reset or diagnostic mode etc not normally require some more physical access and Cybertechnology knowledge?
That said, I am willing to bend the rules here a bit and make this really be that easily achievable. While -I- don't know 100% sure, they've got their own tech guy sitting there and if he says it's possible, safe and can not be circumvented by you or your team members, that's that.

Normal.
The way I understand it, Move-by-wire, when active basically contracts all your muscles, all the time. This way, when you want to make a movement, instead of only then having those muscles act, it just removes the opposite movement.
In your finger, for example, both the muscles for bending it and straightening it are trying pulling at the same time, but Move-By-Wire's controls also make sure they do so with the same amount of strength. When you do want to bend your finger, it simply tells the straightening-muscles to stop pulling.
The seizures and tremors come from small glitches in the control to balance the muscle strength in both directions. Your finger sometimes twitches because the muscle for bending it is pulling slightly harder than the one straightening it.
With the system disabled, that precise muscle control is gone but so is the constant tension, so you can act like a normal human being.

Well as all electronics can be set to reset with a specific interval (Though i have to admit I specifically saw this in a 5th Edition conversation, but it seems plausible for 4thA too) I thought it would work for them too, and I gave a Cybertechnology Roll (as i have the skill) in case it did need cybertech knowledge. The only other thing I can think of, which their tech guy could suggest, is some kind of high tension restraint around his arches.

(The timer'd work I guess, but Quinten finds it unreliable because he's not certain himself how long you'll be staying away, the way its solved now the duration isn't something he needs to worry about, it lasts until you get back to the station. If it's a timer, he might set it to 12 hours or something like that, just to make sure.)
