Name & Principle Alias Siobhan O'Donovan / Exorcist

Ethnicity & Metatype Irish-American Elf

Born 2052 Sex Female Height 6'0"  Build Slender

Description
Christian Theurgists are generally uncomfortable around spirits and summoning, Siobhan O'Donovan is one of the few exceptions to that rule. Orphaned after her parents where victims of the Universal Brotherhood incident of 2055, Siobhan was taken in by a Catholic orphanage just outside of Chicago. When she was in her early teens, her latent magical talent began to manifest and she was taken in by the Order of St. Sylvester. The Order of St. Sylvester is a Catholic-ordained order of monks, priests, and lay people dedicated to the use of beneficial magic, promote magical awareness within the Church, and to investigate magical phenomena.

O'Donovan was educated up to a high school graduate by the Order, but given more in-depth schooling on magical theory and exorcism rites. Since taking to the shadows, under the name of Exorcist, O'Donovan has earned a rep for taking on a wide variety of mission ranging from the charitable to the reprehensible. But whatever she does, there's always a certain tinge of moral superiority of a holy crusader.

Exorcist has cultivated a large network of friends, allies, and associates in her short-time in Seattle. Most are the short of shady, street-level ne'er-do-wells that most folks in the shadows seem to know... But she's also on good terms with the local Bishop, for reasons that neither one of them will divulge.

As an Aspected Summoner you get nothing from picking Magic at B (mages and sorcerers get Magic Priority * 2 in free spells, adepts get power points, summoners get nothing).

Switch Magic B and Metatype D and enjoy the extra 7 5 adjustment points, chummer.

EDIT:
The math works out like this:
Magic B = Magic 4 (Aspected)
Magic C = Magic 2 (Aspected)
In other words, you have to spend 2 adjustment points to get back up to where you started. But, and this is crucial:

Metatype D = 4 Special Adjustment Points
Metatype B = 11 Special Adjustment Points
Net difference = 7. Spend 2 of those to increase Magic to 4 and you now have 5 extra points to spend on more Magic and Edge (saving you karma there) as well as Agility if you want.

Edit edit:
Other than that, looks good. I'd get more reagents and drop In Debt with the extra Karma you now have, and spend regular Karma on nuyen if I were you. In Debt after Errata is 500 nuyen per rating per month, which just goes to cover the interest. It's a money pit...

Edit 3:
This one is really minor, but a micro-transceiver comes with a subvocal mic. No real need for the second one in my opinion.

Changes in V. 2.0: Per ZeroSum's suggestions (above) I swapped my Metatype and Magic Priority picks, rejiggered some Karma expenditures, and presto. Had to trim a bit of fat in my starting equipment, by nothing too drastic. As a nice side-effect, my skills as a Face got a significant boost, making me able to really do well in that aspect of most `runs.

Edit: My Karma Expenditure summary was borked.

I was going to say the something similar to what ZeroSum did. Magic D has "Aspected Summoner" written all over it.

Elves can't spend adjustment points on Logic. You'll have to put that point in Edge instead. (It can't go into Agility because that would max out Agility, and Charisma is already maxed out.)

Alternatively, I think Race C is the sweet spot. Getting +5 adjustment points compared to Race D is worth juggling for. However, I think Race B goes past the point of diminishing returns. Personally, I don't think +2 adjustment points (between C and B) is worth dropping a different priority down by a rank. I'd probably take Skills B and Race C, and put those extra skill points into maxing out your abilities as a Face, which makes you super-useful both in and out of combat.

Your karma log for v2 says 40 karma spent on Attributes, but I didn't see those called out anywhere. Is that still true or is that a holdover from v1? But I also count 12 adjustment points when you should only have 11, so maybe your notation slipped during the change of editions.

Edit: attribute/adjustment clarification

Tecumseh makes an excellent point about Metatype B vs C; the difference is 2 Special Adjustment Points, vs 4 Skill Points. If you're close to maxing out on attributes, those skill points could be worth an equal amount of Karma. Hard to say.

Good catch. That was actually a typo of mine when I wrote the post. The +1 pip in Logic came from Karma, not Adjustment Points.

Your karma log for v2 says 40 karma spent on Attributes, but I didn't see those called out anywhere. Is that still true or is that a holdover from v1? But I also count 12 adjustment points when you should only have 11, so maybe your notation slipped during the change of editions.

I've corrected the Karma Expenditures summary. It should all add up now...

I'm going to throw together a "v. 2.1" using your Metatype C / Skills B Priority suggestion so we can compare the two. Watch this space.

Changes in V. 2.1: Following Tecumseh's suggestion to use Metatype C / Skills B Priority. End result is two less points of Agility, but with an increase in Con, Influence, and Firearms Skills. Con also gains a specialization, which is helpful. Firearms actually ends up losing one die, overall, due to the drop in Agility... But that shouldn't be too big of a hurdle as this character was never meant to be primary combatant. Let the Street Samurai and the Razorgrrls handle that part of the `run (or summon an Angel.)

Don't buy Logic 3 with karma. Lower Strength to 1, buy it back up to 2 with 10 karma, and put the attribute point you saved into Logic 3. Overall that saves you 5 karma since you are no longer spending 15 karma on Logic 3.

Don't buy the Con [Acting] and Conjuring [Banishing] specializations with skill points. Instead, buy them with 5 karma each if at all possible. You saved 5 karma from step one above, so take that skill point you save (from not putting it into Acting or Banishing specializations) and add it to one of your existing skills. If you can't find the karma for the second specialization then I would recommend dropping it for now and buying it with 5 karma once gameplay starts. Specializations are too inexpensive to spend skill points on. (See this post for why.)

Your karma log says you spent 13 karma on skills. I'm not sure how that's possible, as all skill expenditures should be in multiples of 5.

I'd strongly recommend Summoning instead of Banishing for your Conjuring specialization. You'll be summoning much more frequently than you'll be banishing.

The biggest gaps right now are Perception and Stealth. I'd prioritize those for your early karma expenditures. I'd even consider cannibalizing Pistols to get a couple ranks of each. I know that Pistols is useful for 1) having something to do in a fight other than bossing spirits around, and 2) not looking like a mage, but it is eating into your "don't get into a fight in the first place" skills.

I personally like the first picture the best. She looks pretty boss.

Knowledge skills cost 3.

While that may be true, it's also an idiosyncrasy of 6we that you can only gain an expertise in the first thing you specialize in.  If the ultimate goal is to get +3 in banishing, then the character will have to do the one and only chargen specialization in conjuring as banishing.
RPG mechanics exist to give structure and consistency to the game world, true, but at the end of the day, you’re fighting dragons with algebra and random number generators.

Plus, the theme is that she’s from a Tradition that, fluff-wise, is better at casting out spirits than calling them. I do enjoy a mathematically efficient build, but sometimes you gotta make a choice that’s more character-based than the alternative.

Fair enough. I'm perfectly happy with decisions based on story/character rather than perfect optimization. I just want to make sure that things are being done intentionally rather than accidentally.

While that may be true, it's also an idiosyncrasy of 6we that you can only gain an expertise in the first thing you specialize in.

True. This hasn't come up for me yet so I guess I hadn't logically connected the dots. As a GM, I think I'll allow a second option to leapfrog the first.

What I want to know is, where is this source of cyberpunk elf-lady pictures?  I don't mean that in a creepy way, I mean that in a "I know actually searching for 'cyberpunk elf-lady' will probably lead me to a lot of creepy pictures, and want to avoid that" way.

Google Image Search for “ball joint doll elf” and a lot of clicking around.

Ball Jointed Dolls are usually 24” figures with all kinds of articulation and the hobby community goes to great lengths to customize them, make outfits for them, and photograph them like they were working for a major fashion magazine. My youngest daughter stumbled into the hobby by way of Barbie dolls... Most of the hobbyists seem to go for fashions of the various goth subcultures and/or a sort of ethereal urban-fantasy look. Perfect for Shadowrun elves.
