wow..... just wow.
I know the Jacksonville police Dept has one, or had one, that they confiscated about 13 yrs ago. And I've seen it get "tested to make sure it's not a prop".
No idea if they kept it or not but yeah the cops don't need that.
Most cops. Some of the guys that deal with the really fortified gang-turf areas could use one or two. And I'm not even talking Shadowrun.
No, it's still pretty much a horrible idea. Weapons like this are incredibly indiscriminate: poor accuracy due to recoil and a high rate of fire combine to make a weapon that pretty much rains bullets over entire vicinities while you use tracers to walk fire toward the target. Pretty much the antithesis of normal police methodology designed to minimalize collatoral damage among your own populace. Even against heavily fortified targets, use of .50 BMG rifles would be more practical and less messy. The neighborhood would pretty much have to be an outright warzone, akin to some areas of Mexico right now (
the bloodiest conflict in the world last year), for this to even be a reasonable consideration.
The only police application I could see this having is "population suppression": the mass extermination of rioting dissidents. Given the past proclivities of the buyers, that seems even more likely.
