When the Lights Go Down

Money? Check. Political turmoil leading to scrambling for power? You bet. Megacorps jockeying for position while working to take their rivals down a notch? Of course! A festering hive of corruption set next to one of the most scenic bays ever colonized by humans? Absolutely! San Francisco has all of the ingredients needed to make a nice, festering stew for shadowrunners. With the former imperialistic fascist General Saito out of power and the entire bay area united as a single sprawl, there is power and money to be had, which means business in the shadows is booming. San Francisco is a shadowrunner’s guide to the people, places, and plots that make up this city, providing the paydata they need to navigate the hilly streets and cruel back roads of a sprawl whose aura of sophistication can’t mask its deadly heart.

With information on getting into and around the city, notable locations across the sprawl, and plot hooks to keep runners busy, San Francisco is an indispensable aid to Shadowrun players looking to bring their skills to the city by the bay.

San Francisco is part of the City by Shadow series of e-books focusing on cities across the Sixth World and is for use with Shadowrun, Fifth Edition.

Yes! :D  My game has taken one short road trip to the Bay area from Seattle, and I'd been wanting to go back -- now I'll have a lot more to work with :)

And the Colt Manhunter is resurrected a second time! This time with the standard laser sight but price remains the same. No quick drawing penalty at least.

Other than that I'm looking forward to reading this product. I need to send me runners out of town at some point ^^

I know those are supposed to be orcs on the cover but I swear the guy in the center just to the left of the lady looks like a Rogue Keebler elves pumped up on steroids. :)

Will have to get this later tonight.

Ooh, interesting! It'll be good to see what's been happening there.  Not the place you want to be Japanese in though.

As a Bay Area resident, I was looking forward to this.  It's a pretty interesting update, with some good run potential.  There are a few things that were omitted that may be fodder for enterprising GMs:
- Alameda Naval Air Station: who occupies it now?
- Treasure Island, between SF and Oakland
- Angel Island: possible Awakening hooks, given its history as a quarantine area for Chinese immigrants in the 19th century
- People's University: whatever happened to it?
- Moffett Field: between the 237 and 101; currently some Air Guard, NASA and private stuff
- Crystal Springs reservoir: important water source for SF, just west of the 280, bisected by the 92
- Caltrain from SF to Gilroy: note that this is the only rail line that goes into SF, so it pulls double duty for both commuter Caltrain and cargo
- ethnic connections to the old countries: the ethnic diversity of the Bay Area lends itself to possible plot hooks; for example, there's a large Afghan population in Fremont.
Also, huge copy editing pet peeve: "discrete" and "discreet" are not the same word.  I've seen this in multiple publications, and it's driving me nuts!

You have got to be kidding me! I am just about to start a campaign in San Francisco and already did a lot of the work lol. I guess I'm going to need this, especially since I couldn't find a lot of information on SF.

Just finished reading the pdf. It's pretty informative and packs a good bit of information over 19 pages. It's definitely worth a buy if you plan on running the shadows of San Francisco.

For a while I've been itching to convert the characters and factions of the Tex Murphy video game (taking place in a cyberpunk neonoir San Francisco) to Shadowrun, this gives me a good opportunity to do it :)

I know those are supposed to be orcs on the cover but I swear the guy in the center just to the left of the lady looks like a Rogue Keebler elves pumped up on steroids. :)

The cover artwork is really terrible and a low point when it comes to SR5 cover art.

The content is ok, but many details are lacking explanation and a couple of major questions are left open. All in all, the book appears to be written by non-locals who didn't care to do proper research.
