Are there any rules for starting with pets? Would it function as a contact?

I'm making a magician and I was hoping there was some way for him to have a pet/friend Blackberry Cat. If that is not allowed, then a domestic cat.

AFAIK there aren't any pet rules, you'll have to work it out with your gm. You might have to pay for an exotic pet.

I'd put it as a lesser dependent negative quality.

Devil:
From what I understand about Blackberry Cats, you can't really "own" them as pets. You could befriend one though and they often choose someone to live with for the purposes of food, comforts, and companionship. You could possibly catch one if you're really smart, but that wouldn't make it your pet.

You can find them in Running Wild. They are awakened animals.

For non-paracritters, I could see it just as part of Lifestyle costs.  Why complicate it by doing otherwise?
