Not all of us down in Medellin work for the cartels, but most do one way or another. If you don’t, there’s really not much opportunity. Unless you want to move to Amazonia and live in the stinking jungle o’ death. Or try and get a good in with Aztechnology. Not my style, comprende? This hombre decided it was time to make something of himself, so I up and joined the local outfit, just running drugs and stuff. Nothing special. If you’ve got talent though, somebody spots it and you find yourself out in jungel camps learning how to sneak around, shoot shit, and blow up coca processing camps. It’s fun, kind of like combat camping. Sure, a few of the recruits die from strange diseases, weapon accidents, or boss man’s displeasure. But most make it through. Then you get to go back, kick in the door of those punk cops that harassed you as a kid, and take their daughter for a night on the town.
Trouble is, drugs is a fluid business. No amount of magic or chrome in the world will ever change that. It’s a fluid, cut-throat business. For those of us soldiers it means a few things. Opportunity is number one. You can make some nice nuyen, buy some nice chrome, drugs, joygirls, or what have you. Number two is that you can quickly find yourself unemployed. Your boss-man gets popped and you can’t exactly join a soup line, know what I mean? So when that happens it’s best to buzz out of town, fast. Maybe things will cool down later. Maybe one of your friends will become a big shot. Maybe not, but it’s best if you find that out from a distance.
