Sam isn't on full defense; he used his action on the commanding voice. And his next action is (hopefully) to try to talk Mr. Stabby into not killing him, which is probably going to take more than "a word or two".

No, but he probably should be at some point, considering Mr McStabbypants is getting 3 actions a turn, and your voice loses effect with reuse.  To be fair though, your first roll easily overwhelmed him so him completely throwing the effects will not happen soon.

Well, this sucks. Hoping to be able to actually do something on Sam's turn, I'm going to use my last point of edge rather than go on full defense.

Huh, better than I expected. But that's still either 5 damage (if the 9P is the modified DV) or 8 (if it was the base). Sam's still standing, somehow.
