Title: Sci-Fi Art
Post by: John Schmidt on <09-05-10/0318:37>
I hang out and do some biz over at a pretty cool site...Renderosity.com

If you like sci-fi vistas I would urge you to visit and check out the work of a great artist...stonemason

His gallery is full of some great pieces, although at least three of his pets are slightly disturbing (the cat with the dead mouse in its mouth ranks up there...and a hairless cat). *shudders*

Since Renderosity doesn't allow me to link to them the quickest procedure goes like this...

go to Renderosity.com         Click on the silver button labeled 'Members'          Drop down menu, click on 'Member Search'          Type in stonemason in the Username field
Click on the red demon photo         Then click on Gallery

And there you are!

The galleries are free.

What Caine is talking about are the 3d models that Stonemason sells on another part of the site.

There is a pic done by http://elpinoy.deviantart.com/ that to me is all Shadowrun http://elpinoy.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2lwqta

Oh!  It always amazing to me how many amazing people are on that site - I browse it a lot, and I still find "new" fantastic stuff all the time.

Thanks for that link =)

The other two sites I visit a lot are ConceptArt.org (http://www.conceptart.org/?artist=marc_taro) and Elfwood.com (http://www.elfwood.com/).

Epilogue (http://www.epilogue.net/index.php) and Elfwood are two of my other favorites.

Kirsi Salonen (http://www.kirsisalonen.com/) is another favorite artist, though the work is more fantasy than is probably appropriate in most SR games^^

Yeah, I'm actually thiking of all the money I spent on his stuff at Daz3d; but its REALLY good stuff.

Reminds me, might have to start up a new 3d art thread here....

I made the mistake of totally up just how much money I have spent at Daz 3d and Renderosity...it took my breath away. There are some awesome modelers producing stuff these days. Even the textures are improving dramatically. My biggest complaint has to be that the vast majority of clothing models look like it belongs in a Victoria's Secret catalog. Don't get me wrong, it is some sexy stuff but when I am putting together a fantasy or sci-fi action piece the last thing that I am looking for is a chainmail bikini and stiletto pumps. Hopefully that is going to change, especially now that we have dynamic clothing. To have jeans that are not vacu-formed to Victoria's butt or shirts clinging to every curve is such a welcome change!

Still, little by little 3d art is gaining more acceptance within the gaming community. A couple of years ago, I put up a piece on RPGnow...some supportive comments but one guy who told me that "it isn't art." These days, I am seeing more and more 3d elements layered into cover art (including SR products).

I didn't realize just how big the 3d art community is until I went to Renderosity. I remember last week logging on around 2 am and there were something like 2,000 plus people logged in.

Deviant Art is another place that I go to as well. I didn't realize that they have a location for SR art...will have to check that out! Thanks for the heads up.  ;D

With a grand total of 9 pictures out of 164 (excluding photography since those are all concert pics) that DON'T have a horse in them.

Which was why I didn't link it here. It's not "scifi." A few of my D&D characters, two of me and lotza Poniez.

So you need to do more cyberponies :D

I have a steampunk pony? Does he count?

And my shadowrun character will EVENTUALLY end up there. I have the pathfinder version of him in there just as a speedpaint from back before I learned the glory of transparent pixel layer locks. (Also that's where my avatar is from...)

Oh speaking of Tats.

I'm thinking of adding the Logo for the BattleCorps 4th Company to Usda's arm or chest. Just cause He is a Wild Boy at heart! ;D

Hm, I never played a character with tats... and the first one who should HAVE one (Troll MET2000 Merc) probably doesn't have one, because they'd have to put it in with a DRILL...

LOL Yeah Usda isn't that "tough" outa armor. Plus the Tat could have been before he went and got all Auged up!
