Title: Max Headroom, a crash course in Organlegging.
Post by: Malex on <09-20-11/0950:32>
So I've been watching a bit of '80s cheeze tv. I'm like 4 episodes in and it's amazing how much this show reminds me of SR2-3.

A gritty ,dystopian future where the main character is a investigative reporter who runs into trouble with a camera rather than a gun who's brain patterns are used to create what is basically an artifical intelligence and a hacker/computer geek sidekick?

NAH, nothing Shadowrun-esque about that AT ALL.

 ;)

Do not forget the use of credit/ID cylinders, terminology like 'Ice', and security companies with the right to use excessive force.  :D

Because that requires writers and people who want to be creative, neither of which are available on Reality TV.

I would love to see a re-visualization of that show.  Maybe even one of Robo-cop.

How many re-visualizations have you seen go right?

Uwe Boll would probably end up making the damned thing.

That is true, but then again they cancelled something before it had gotten good.  I hate it when they do that, I honestly believe if someone who loved the material from the first run was able to do it I think it would be good.

It would be nice to have a reinvisioning which would make use of more modern technology, stripped down typewriters and corded phones kinda date the material.

I think they could do a more mainstream acceptable one that will do a better job staying on air.  I mean seriously, it couldn't be as bad as the Knight Rider remake.

Yes.  It could.

Which one?

Knight Rider 2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Rider_2000)
Knight Rider 2010 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Rider_2010)
Team Knight Rider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Knight_Rider)
Knight Rider (2008 series) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Rider_%282008_TV_series%29)

Yes.

Although I did enjoy the 2008 series, but that was because I was expecting Goliath with a Cybernetic Garthe Knight and the original KARR's AI.

And really wanted to see a race between the Knight Industries 2000 versus the Knight Industries 4000.

The transformation mode, however, really ruined things I believe.  Especially when KITT became a PEDO VAN!

The official NBC one.  I consider the one that went straight to syndication a sequal.

Sad that the series ended just when a good metaplot was beginning to develop. A fate shared with so many other shows, Firefly being among such.

no, it requires that the networks let shows grow for more than a quarter season before axing it, because they put it up against something like american idol. yes crappy shows should die, but we need a different measuring stick than how much profit the network is getting from all the ads.

unfortunately it'll never happen.

Which are why some of the best shows are on cable/pay channels. They already know they won't beat those numbers, so any good numbers are worth pursuing.

It's also why the revolution will not be televised. (http://youtu.be/rGaRtqrlGy8)

I have been thinking that if this show did have a revamp now, after movies like the Matrix and with the internet and computers becoming ubiquitous, it might have a better chance of survival than it did in the pre-internet late 1980s.

Okay, great, now I'm going to HAVE TO make a Max-Headroom style A.I.

Wonder what Negative Quality would best represent the skipping/stuttering... any ideas?
