ok, it may have come from someplace prior to being included in cannon companion (2000) but thats where i saw it for the first time.

It is amazing how many people rop invtions from games.

It's also amazing that Shear Thickening Armor seems to get brought up in gaming forums year after year after year like it's a brand new development, when they've been working on it since the 1970's.

Yeah, I just find it amusing.
Across every gaming or sci-fi forum I frequent, at least a couple times a year, every year, someone will come on exclaiming, "GUYS! GUYS! I just saw this new armor that is sooo cooool!".
You're not the first, and I suspect you will not be the last. ;D

its been in development for years, hell natick soldier centers has been promising, new lighter flexible body armor as far as i remember. gel armor is good idea if i works for something other then lab conditions, and pistol ammo. I can see police officers getting it before grunts.
