Title: SR3 - Spellcasting - rule check
Post by: Scarper Jack on <08-17-20/1825:49>
I am learning the rules, so this is a basic question, most easily asked by example:

Drain code for Mana Bolt (p.191 Core Rulebook) is Drain: (Damage Level).

So if cast at Force 6 and Medium damage, the drain code is 3M.

Have I got that right?

Follow-up:

Increase Reflexes +3

Cast at Force 1 (there is no point in a higher force?), Drain Code = 4D (force 1/2 rnd. down, min. 1)

Have I got this right?

Thanks all.

You are correct on both counts.

As to why you would cast it at a higher force: Counter-spelling, Wards, Background counts, all mess with your spells, and low force spells are especially easy to disrupt... Nothing like risking deadly drain, only to have the enemy mage dis-spell it, causing you to have to REcast it :P

Thank you. Especially for the last part, that makes total sense now.
