Title: Shadowland/Jackpoint Members List (Updated 4/23/23)
Post by: FastJack on <09-04-10/0323:23>
FastJack's Shadowfiles (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/434976/Fastjacks-Shadowfiles?affiliate_id=17098) (updated with ... a lot)

Please Note: I have updated the format of the book and published it on DriveThruRPG as a Holostreets sourcebook. It's Pay What You Want, so if you're feeling kind, throw me a few dollars so I can use it to stay more up to date on getting sourcebooks and updating not only the Shadowfiles, but also the forums.

Post index is a listing of all posts made by Shadowland/Jackpoint Denizens. Author index is a listing of all the denizens and the articles they wrote for Shadowland/Jackpoint. Publishing timeline is when the books take-place in-universe (some adventure books are not precisely dated). With the time/date stamps on the articles, the in-universe publishing date is now based on the oldest date in the book. Welcome to August, 2083!

Italicized dates on the Publishing timeline are approximated from events outside the book or partial dates found within the book.

I've got Threats 2 right here.  I have the Denver book somewhere (sorry, lots of stuff is still boxed up from the recent move), so it'll have to wait.

In Threats 2, page 110 just has an intro (to the new chapter) from Captain Chaos, on <11 July 2062, 19:06:48 (pst)>.  Page 111 is just artwork.  Looks like we lucked out.

Yeah. I didn't include that on the list because the Α and Ω were codes to identify the different speakers, not what they called each other or anything.

Just FYI, "The Old Man" referenced in the Germany Sourcebook and the "The Old Man" referenced in Target: Matrix are two different characters. I had nothing at all to do with the former, and everything to do with the latter. The "Old Man" referred to in T:M was murdered on 06/22/2063, the body discovered on 06/23/2063 (SOTA64, p 147).

It's not canon (haven't found any way to really work it in), but Texas 2-Step died in Crash 2.0, pretty much as he lived (fighting the Azzies). Ditto for Midnight Angel, who went down with his ship (Azziewatch got pretty messed up during Crash 2.0, but it did survive). Since these were both characters I introduced, I feel like I can be reasonably definitive on those two.

All three of these characters (Old Man, Texas 2-Step, and Midnight Angle) were humans. The Old Man was just a businessman, though he had some...interesting side businesses that he managed to keep out of the public eye. 2-Step was a sammie, for lack of a better word, though he simply thought of himself as a patriot/soldier. Angel was a decker.

AHH but was he??

I like to think so. He was a fun character. By the by, I know this is a dumb question, but are most of the Shadowland/Jackpoint characters based on actual characters, or just created for the dialogue? I mean, does someone have an actual character named Man-Of-Many-Names, or was it just created because, hey, the SR universe needed another cryptic shaman?

I can't remember where I saw it, but someone mentions that there's a rumor that Captain's been seen on the Matrix, and FastJack comments about 'checking on a friends gravesite'. So I'd like to believe he's around...

Mostly the latter, though a few of them are/were characters some of us played or used as NPCs. Texas 2-Step, for instance, was a character I used as my alter-ego (and who got used a time or two in other folks' works), but he was also one of my very first SR PCs from back in the day. Corona is an NPC I've used a lot (FastJack, she's a human decker, FWIW, and she's still kickin').

Most of them, though, were just created on the spot if a piece of dialog was needed. This has changed considerably over the last few years as we've tried to limit the number of shadowtalkers and develop a little more of the characters through their dialog in shadowtalk.

Yes CC was a good man as well as fair.

I am of the understanding a few of the shadow talkers are real PC's but I think most were just made to fill the roll needed.

IIRC, one of the Jackpointers mentioned missing Dragonslayer and his loony comments.

Reading one of the older sourcebooks, I was greatly amused when Hestaby flat-out replied "You are an idiot" to one of his rants.

I miss Tomtom.  His Madagascar bit (with Captain Chaos booting him off at the end) was hilarious.

Well, just asked Bull over on his U93 Biography thread, and he said to go for it (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=78.msg3514#msg3514). If you want to post, create a biography on his thread, then start a topic. If you got an article, go ahead and post it or attach it to the opening post. I'd stick to his recommendations though and if you start a Shadowland thread, put either [U93] (signifying the old-school date-time stamped forums) or [SEA] (signifying the new Jackpoint/ShadowSEA) style. Also keep to character you post a biography for, no one posting as Slamm-0! or Netcat (I'm not posting as FastJack).
Title: Re: Shadowland/Jackpoint Members List
Post by: Bull on <09-12-10/0206:37>
Fun thread.  Ok, a few answers on my end...

1)  The Bull that posted to Shadowtech is technically not the same Bull as the "Best Ork Decker YOu Never Met".  I was playing Bull by that point, but Target: UCAS was my characters Debut as a Shadowtalker (I won a contest on the old ShadowRN mailing list, along with Spike, Granite, Fro (Adam Jury's original online handle), and one other person...  Kumquat maybe?  It COULD have been my character, I was playing when the book came out.  And I always claimed that it was me. :)

2)  A fair number of characters were based on real characters.  Talon was Steve Kenson.  Josie Cruise was Jon Szeto's.  Bull was mine.  Slamm-O was Fred Hoopers.  Winterhawk belonged to one of the assistant Developers.  Pistons was Elissa Carey.  Half the characters I ever put into anything I wrote were either some of my secondary characters, friends characters, or friends online Nicknames.  But, a lot of time, they were either jokes, or just random names pulled out for fun.  I know in one of the SOTA books, Jon Szeto used a bunch of GI Joe names to fill in for merc posters.

3)  An "In Character" chat was done once, during one of the Live Chats that CGL did for a while.  I'd actually love to see something like that done again, or do up something like that on the forums here.

4)  I'm going to end up using some of the Season 4 Missions Conatcts and NPCs in the UV93 threads for shits and giggles, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some talk about events going on in Missions pop up there.

Bull

Do you have the Jackpoint posters list? It's a little out of date with a few deceased posters and no new ones. /dev/girl or however you spell it isn't on it. There's also the 10 Jackpointers pdf, you have to pay for that though. If you would like help with that I'll be willing to cover some of the stuff. From Mr. Goodman himself, earlier in this thread:

Once, long ago, the Earth cooled. Mountains rose, rivers flowed to the sea. This was before these forums. This was before Dumpshock. This was before Jackpoint. This was before the dinosaurs nobly sacrificed themselves to save the ascending mammals from the massive chunk of rock that fell from the sky and spelled their own doom.

This story is about one of those mammals. Indirectly, at least.

Before the forums mentioned above, there was the ShadowRN mailing list. I was a member there once, as was a chap named Erik Jameson. I frequently spoke on that mailing list about things I did and didn't like in the Shadowrun universe, and I often spoke of some of the home-grown things in my own campaign. One of these was a company called Cavalier Arms (named, for those who care, after a former girlfriend's preferred class in AD&D; she and I were still on speaking terms then...she was also this close to being the governor of Texas in Shadows of North America, but then things got ugly and I managed to get Jon Szeto to change it in time for submission).

Erik was writing for Mike Mulvihill at the time, for Corporate Download. Erik being (for reasons which surpass my understanding) a Fuchi fan, he had bid for (and won) the Novatech writeup for CDL. He wanted Miles Lanier to have his own personal weapons company, and asked me one day if I objected to him using Cavalier Arms. I did not, and told him so. Not much else was said about it for some time.

Then Corp Download hit the streets, and I buy it, and I go see how Cavalier fits into all of this. And I discover that there's a character named "Patrick Goodman" running the company and still owning a minority stake. It was at this point that I noticed how thin the fabric of reality actually was in places. It was also at this point that my own attempts to get involved in the freelancer pool for Mike and FASA both became a little ironic and a moral imperative.

I've been trying to get back at Erik Jameson ever since. Someday, perhaps, I'll succeed, but it's been harder than I thought it might be.

It's hard writing about a character with your own name; you frequently get accused of trying to write yourself into the game, the ultimate "Mary Sue" character, without the imagination needed to give them a different name. So it also became a moral imperative to kill my doppelganger, which I finally managed to do in SOTA64. So there's step 1 of my cunning plan accomplished. Now I just need to work out the time and the "give a damn" to fill in some of the blanks.

Okay, it's a clumsy ending, but there's the story of how I wound up as a character in the game world and what I've been trying to do ever since to correct it.

EDIT: Correcting a typo.

sorry if i'm slow with this, but . . .
The 'Old Man' of T:M is likely to have been Patrick Goodman, founder and CEO of Cavalier Arms Ltd.  The dates of the repective deaths all but match . . .
Oh, and in case I haven't made this explicit: Yes, "The Old Man" in Target: Matrix was 'Patrick Goodman,' late CEO of Cavalier Arms. I thought it was pretty clear from the context of his comment in T:M, but just for the record....

In case anyone's wondering about an update from War! and also the FastJack's Profiles project I'm working on:

It's been a hectic few months. Lots of job-searching which culminated in an offer last Wednesday for a job back in PA starting Jan 3rd. In other words, ever since it's been about setting up the move, packing the stuff, looking for a place PLUS the normal Holidays craziness.

I am still working on everything, but had to finally close it out last night until after the move since I packed the computer. Fortunately, the move should go pretty quickly and I should have updates coming in January!

Runner's Black Book is the DTF compilation for MilSpecTech, This Old Drone, Gun Haven Heaven, Unfriendly Skies, and Deadly Waves. They updated some of the entries, Nightfire made some additional comments to the previous comments, and they had 9 new weapons in the Gun Heaven section.

Captain Chaos?  He ran ShadowLand, which turned into ShadowSEA and JackPoint after Crash 2.0.  He died defending ShadowLand long enough to get off the details of the nukes and EMP Bombs that were all around the world to every Corporation, Mr. Johnson, Fixer, and Shadowrunner that they had in their Rolodex (Which is almost everyone worthy of their name.).

He was what FastJack is today in the books.

I'm fairly certain I've read a fiction blurb that dealt with Cap's e-ghost pulling together in a DIMR node, or maybe the Nexus, possibly calling itself Xaos? Not sure where I read it, might've been in a chunk of never-to-be-published stuff a former freelancer gave out.

The only thing worse than all of that, jonathanc, would be something totally evil. Like Flesh-form Insect spirits inhabiting highly trained covert ops soldiers from Knight Errant or Ares.

...

I've said too much.
No, there's something worse.

One thing I've been hoping to see is an updated list, maybe with some background blurbs on the current list of regular Jackpointers. Something like the linked PDF over on the Shadowrun wikia site. I've been driving myself relatively crazy searching through the Author and Postings lists you made FastJack (thanks, by the way, they have helped a lot) but having a short, concise list like that would save me tons of time when I'm trying to keep everything straight for my games.

We have an internal spreadsheet on the JackPointers and all of the guests. It's something we've discussed, but let me also say that I would LOVE to release a bunch of free PDF lists (JackPointers and guests, spy agencies, [elite] military/security units, sports teams, etc.). We just don't have time.

Now I find myself extremely hopeful that we might see something like this in the future. Just the time it saves me using the Shadowtalkers PDF is not to be taken lightly. On average I'd say I reference it a few times a week, at least during those times I'm doing heavy research on a game. There are plenty of guests on Jackpoint, or even regulars in some cases, that I really don't use in any way in my games chiefly because I really don't know even a little blurb about their specialty or focus.

On a side note, something that might amuse a few people. The folks I play with have actually used PM on a popular social networking site to hold a Jackpoint conversation from time to time. Just a little idea my wife had that really helped with immersion a bit. Nothing as drastic as some people I've seen creating entire messageboards just for Shadowrun, but it was creative and fun.

I know that I'd *love* to get an updated Jackpointers list together. The one you passed my way, James, is nice and complete, but the format it's in is a program that I don't have. Trying to print it out didn't quite work either. CLOSE, but the thing was too wide, I suppose, so it's three sheets abreast. Usable, tho! So I have been. :)

I'm adding a guest for my section, by the by, but I don't expect there will be a need for them long-term. I would have used a regular, but no one had the one thing I needed, so I had to invent someone. That, of course, might change as drafts move along the process. We'll see!

I could have sworn Catalyst had a list of Jackpoint personalities on the main website awhile back in with the FAQs and Erratas and such.  The list was unfortunately outdated, but it had a quick two sentence personality summary for all of our Jackpointers.  I've looked everywhere and I can't seem to find it.

I'm working on coming up with some faux Jackpoint-esque campaign material to hand out to my players, and I'd like to toss some well-known names into the list, but other than some of the obvious ones like Puck and Fastjack I don't really have their personalities memorized.

The list of users in this thread is a great resource, but is that personality list still out there, maybe in an updated form?  I'd love to know who is a Shaman, who is a Hermetic mage, who is a Shadowrunner, etc...

Thanks for the message, I got the PDF now!  Yes, this is exactly what I was looking for.  I'd love to see this list get updated.  I just got "Corporate Guide" for Christmas and I've been eagerly consuming it's fluffy goodness.  The Jackpoint conversation in this book is better than in some past books in my opinion (sadly better than the 6th World Almanac, even though there are a lot of other things I love about that book) and I'd love to see some of the entries for the newer Jackpoint personalities that show up in Corporate Guide that aren't mentioned on the list.

If there's a petition I can sign to have it updated, count me in!

On a related note, if someone has a cool Word template that I can use to make a document look like ShadowSea, shoot it my way.  I've been working on customizing one for my players but so far instead of 2072 Matrix ShadowSea, it sort of looks like an internet page circa 1997.

Sunshine is male, yes. Some people read it as female because Sunshine sounds like a girly name. However, it is a reference to the old quote about sunshine being the best disinfectant (meaning exposing problems to the public is the best way to eliminate them).

In the recent novella Neat, James Kincaid (the protagonist and viewpoint character) mentions that he's a Jackpointer after  his meeting with Hard Exit. I may have missed it, but I don't think his street name is mentioned. He's a former Lone Star cop, an initiate shaman, and now a licensed "Paranormal Investigator". His areas of expertise include Seattle (especially Puyallup), Seattle criminal organizations, police procedures and investigations.

You misunderstand the writing.

Hard Exit is speaking:
Quote from: Critias
“You and Bunny might’ve been bad as all hell for each other,” she drawled at me, catty enough that her Texas twang came out whenever she gossiped a little, especially about a fellow high-and-mighty Jackpointer. “But that girl did wonders for your car.”

'Especially about a fellow high-and-mighty Jackpointer' refers from HE's point of view, and refers to Turbo Bunny.  Kincaid is not a Jackpointer.

Thank goodness for tax returns. Finally got a chance to pick up the latest books and update the lists. And FastJack and Slamm-0! have finally overtaken Cap'n Chaos total post count. FJ's leading with 4 posts over Fred, but with his retiring from JackPoint, I'm relatively sure that will change with the next book.

And, boy, do I empathize with my fictional inspiration. This last year has been a roller-coaster for me. But I think I've finally turned a corner (knocking on lots of wood) and it should be good going forward!

Well, for those of you who don't know I make the cast as follows:

The Big 'D' - The Great Dragon Dunkelzhan
Hecate - Shiela Blatavska, head of Atlantean Foundation, also known as Alachia, former Queen of the Blood Elves
Wordsmyth - Ehran the Scribe, another Immortal Elf
The Laughing Man - Harlequin, another Immortal Elf
Lady of the Court - Brane Deigh, Queen of the Seelie Court in Tir Na Nog. If not an Immortal Elf, certainly one on intimate terms with them.
Jungle Cat - Hualpa, the Great Dragon in charge of Amazonia
Umsondo - Yeah, I have no idea here.

JUNGLE CAT and UMSONDO remain ciphers - but IMO it's pretty blatantly obvious that Jungle Cat is not another Great Dragon.  He and Umsondo may be other Immortal sorts - or potentially the latest in a lineage/order of individuals that stretches back as long as the Immortals, as they treat Jungle Cat and Umsondo as equals.

Considering the origin of the immortal elves, I would tend to tag Umsondo as a negro immortal elf - but we know of no black Immortal Elves except Aina Dupree.  Close kin to her, perhaps, though there are several indicators that subtly suggest to the back of my mind, now that I think about them, that Umsondo could actually be her - or her offspring.  If pushed, I'd suggest that Jungle Cat is actually an Immortal shapeshifter - but again, we know of none of them, either.

Everyone else, of course, is spot on and officially acknowledged ...

Umsondo MIGHT be one of the Heavenherds, from southern Africa.

Brane Deigh as Lady of the Court - I don't know if i buy this, for a couple of nebulous reasons:
1) Ego. As head of the Seelie Court of Tir na nOg, i can't imagine her choosing just 'Lady' - but of course this, for her, could be incredibly subtle and low-key
2) Alachia is supposedly tutoring Brane Deigh, but there was no sign of any deference, one to the other

As far as I know, whoever they were in fact died with Findley and every discussion has been but speculation. If there has been some official decision/decree, then no one told me. Or worse, someone did tell me and I forgot.

I maintain Sheila Blatavska may be Hecate, but neither is Alachia. But I'm pretty sure I'm pissing up a rope trying to change anyone's, lest everyone's, mind on that.
Title: Re: Shadowland/Jackpoint Members List (Updated 11/21/12)
Post by: Mirikon on <11-10-13/0941:27>
Well, it is clear that everyone in the group is either a dragon, an immortal elf, or someone intimately connected with them.

Sheila Blatavska is confirmed as Hecate and Miss Tick in Loose Alliances. As for whether or not she is Alachia, if she isn't, then she has to be another of the immortal elves, because in Loose Alliances it says she shares a relationship with Ehran and Aithne, and dressed down Schwarzkopf in front of his students telling him that he was teaching them wrong, and he should know better. Alachia is at the top of the list, especially since the other major female IEs are either Aina Dupree, or are working directly with the two Tirs or other awakened nations. Though, of course, there could be ones we don't know about. Another reason I believe Hecate is Alachia is found in the Aztlan file, pg 68. They are talking about Corruption, and Laughing Man says clearly that Hecate ought to know what it looks like. I take this as a pointed jab at how the Blood Elves had to Corrupt themselves to survive the Scourge. Again, same file, pg 172, she says this age is tame compared to the last one.

Umsondo may be one of the Heavenherds, or he might be the Australian IE from some of the early novels.

Regarding Jungle Cat, the poster is clearly based in Amazonia, and is well versed in their internal affairs. I'll run through my reasons as they appear in the book, for easier fact-checking. I'll be including page references, as well.

Pg 11. Not definitive, but Jungle Cat's reaction to the mention of Aztlan is markedly more hostile than the others.
Pg 12. He calls Lady of the Court, Hecate, and Laughing Man juveniles. Again, not definitive, but it suggests Cat is a good deal older than Hecate or Laughing Man, and certainly older than Lady of the Court. On the same page, Cat doesn't get the reference to the 400 pound gorilla joke, claiming to not have heard it, while the immortal elves all know it. Circumstantial, but these two tidbits suggest that Cat has been, shall we say, under a rock the last few centuries or more. Further evidence is just before Big 'D' begins the file, calling Aztlan 'our ancient foe'.
Pg 21. When talking about Pobre, Big 'D' reckons that he is a lesser (not a Great Dragon), but Cat counters 'Perhaps in form, but not in spirit.' Only a fellow dragon (one might say only a fellow great dragon) could get away with that kind of comment, IMO.
Pg 22. 'Do we look stupid?' Jungle Cat clearly marks himself as a core entity in Amazonia.
Pg 60. Jungle Cat apparently knows enough about dragon magic to say he has not seen any direct evidence of it in play
Pg 61. Cat mentions going into Aztlan in his 'guise'. While this could be a simple mask spell, it suggests the great dragon ability to take on a metahuman form.
Pg 86. Again with the 'We', referring to Amazonia. Clearly a major player in the Amazonian government, and we all know how many of those there are.
Pg 102. Jungle Cat speaks of using sentients and dragons to summon blood spirits in surprise, since he thought it 'too soon'.
Pg 109. Lady of the Court asks Cat if he get's grief from the Corporate Court, and Cat says yes, for the same reason she does. If, as we believe, Lady of the Court is Brane Deigh, leader of Tir Nan Og, then the reason the Court gives her grief is because the Tir hasn't signed the Business Recognition Accords. Neither has Amazonia. This implies further that Jungle Cat is the leader of Amazonia.
Pg 114. Both the sidechats pretty much scream that Jungle Cat is in charge in Amazonia.
Pg 172. Has some... unkind words to describe Hecate, saying she has no right to be speaking to them.

All told, there is a very strong circumstantial case that Jungle Cat is a (if not the) key figure in Amazonian affairs. The list of key figures in Amazonian affairs is incredibly short, especially when you limit it to immortals. Hualpa is the obvious pick from this list, though there is always an outside chance it could be Sirrurg, the third dragon from Amazonia's founding, or another, unknown IE (though that is exceedingly unlikely).

Actually, I can accept that Alachia is not Sheila Blatavska. FWIW. Which kind of begs the question . . . what is the canon fate of Tir Tairngire Prince Sosan Naerain?

I always thought that Hecate was obviously Alachia, but Alachia might not be Blavatska.

I guess Lou Prosperi one time said that they were all supposed to be the same person (Hecate, Alachia, and Blavatska) on Dumpshock, but Alachia choosing to run the AF instead of heading an Elf country seems out of place tome.

And at one time, the plan for "Lore master" back in the pre-YotC days was that Loremaster was going to turn out to be Harlequin's father who had gone Walkabout to the Astral Plane near the end of Earthdawn, and came back to fight the Horrors or some such.

Until it's in a book, it's not canon.  The writers and even developers might have very firm ideas of where things are going, but those ideas and plans can and do change, sometimes VERY radically, as storylines progress.

Actually, I can definitely see Alachia doing somethingn like that, Bob. Remember that in the Sixth World it is corporations, not nations, which hold the major power. Why settle for just an elven land (especially when some of your rivals are setting up camp in a couple of them) when you you can be the head of a multinational nonprofit foundation, able to wield massive money and influence without the headaches of actual rulership? The heads of megacorps (and make no mistake, the Atlantean Foundation is at least a AA in all but name) can wield significantly more power than even the leader of major countries like the UCAS. She might not be Lofwyr with SK, but the Atlantean Foundation presents much less of a target to others than the number one AAA does. As long as people think it is 'just' a glorified new-age science project, then they won't look at it as being a major threat. Which is why the AF's main source of trouble comes from the Draco Foundation, the Black Lodge, the IOND, some dragons, and other awakened interests, compared to all the same people who like to take pot shots at Lofwyr, who also has to deal with the other nine AAAs, all the other corps, terrorists, and more. If, as I believe, Hecate is Alachia, she pulled a slick move by starting the AF. Especially since she still has her power, while Lofwyr's given up the title of Loremaster, the Elders in Tir Tairngir got kicked out, and Tir Nan Og is experiencing all kinds of problems.

That would make Alachia far smarter than her fellow IEs. Good on her for being smarter than just about anyone else! Just in case that came across as sarcastic, it isn't. I totally get it, and appreciate that she's probably the best IE for adaptability, assuming it's true.

Year of the Comet was actually a lot of fun.  Unfortunately, FASA closing kinda derailed it completely.  Since it and Wake of teh Comet were largely done, they were the first things FanPro put out when they picked up the license, since it was quick and easy.  unfortunately, some of the key people weren't really around anymore and some of the FanPro guys weren't really interested in it.  So it sorta got dumped, the plots got run in wierd directions (When they were used at all), and it ended up being something of a poorly implemented mess. :(

And trust me,. there is a LOT of bad behind the scenes from 1st ed on. :)  Often it's just crazy spitballing concepts that never stick, but sometimes writers really latch onto an idea that they love, but everyone else thinks is a stinker, and, well...  Usually tehy get swept under the rug.  usually.

Okay, I'll be fair. MOST of YotC was pretty OK. I just hate SURGE. And drakes are a bit.. Meh..

I would love to know a lot of the behind-the-scenes of yesteryears Shadowrun, since I had no idea about the ShadowRN list back in the day.

Most of it wasn't even on the RN list.  There's a bunch of stuff I picked up from talking with other freelancers and Mike Mulvihill back in the FASA days.  Much of it I either don't remember or shouldn't really repeat.

And yeah, SURGE got...  out of hand, and unfortunately quickly became the domain of furries and min-maxers.  the original concept was that "partial metahuman DNA" awakened, leading to effectively half-breeds.  Unfortunately that was deemed a little too limiting and not really taht cool, so more stuff got added.  I actually don't mind them when done right (I tend to run them like Jokers from the Wild Cards series), and a number of cyberpunk stroies have done variations of gangs with implants to give them animal traits as a theme (the dog-gang from Johnny Mnemonic, for example), or even gene-splicing gone awry type stuff.  this just did it via magic.  But it needs to be kept rare and mostly in the background (And you'll note how little SURGE has gotten used over the years.)

Drakes aren't a terrible concept, I just don't know that they should have ever been Player Characters (much like AI's, Free Spirits, Vampires, etc).  And they're something of an ED port anyways.

What's even funnier is that other posters are basically considering him an annoyance, kinda hoping he'll kill himself at some point. And now he's like one of the wise old men of Jackpoint.  ;D
It's also funny to read FastJack's old comments. He was pretty cocky and arrogant at the time.

I have used SURGE to do some interesting things with characters. What I really feel is the bad thing about Surge is, sometimes, you
only want some disadvantages from it, none of the advantages. The other problem is that some of the disadvantages are purely
cosmetic.  A character I threw together with SURGE that I never got to play had a very tight theme on the effects: Underwater vision,
gills, webbed hands and feet, unusual eye colour(Solid black), can't remember what the other disadvantage was, though. Gave the
character a level 3 Dermal Sheath with colour modifications to it to be dark grey over back and sides, white over the stomach..Character
became an under-water operatiosn specialist(complete with gyrojet). Another, I went with Third Eye, and a few other minor things, and
built the character as a really high powered Conjurer. Then, there is the Thorns, Metagenetic Enhancement:Willpower, and a few others
that we have used to give something similar to the effects of the Ritual of Thorns...which is darned fun to have as a Surge package when
going into, say, Tir na nOg, especially when the GM knows about the double histories.

I don't think SURGE is just the realm of Furries and Powergamers. I think, however, a GM needs to be paying attention to what the player
is trying to do with the SURGE.

Indeed. To pull a parallel with Hero System, SURGE would be like the powers marked with little Caution signs, warning the GM to take extra care when examining the character before play starts.

From the information in the books, I think it is supposed to have been posted (In-Timeline) sometime around Attitude?

Parazoology wasn't in my original In-Universe Timeline since I base that off of where I track the Shadowland Posters, and there weren't any Shadowland comments in the book. When I get home, I'll update the list to include the book, but I usually base it off the "Current Time" that is on the "Welcome" page of the book. For Parazoology, that's 19 Aug 2072, 0724 hrs.

I have an odd favor to ask, when you dig back in... could you possibly split the Shadowtalkers into "Pre-5th" and "Post-5th" piles? Most of them are obvious, but the ones who are no longer around after 5th ed I'd like to keep a bit different than the current crop. Help track down proper voices. :)
Title: Re: Shadowland/Jackpoint Members List (Updated 11/12/15)

Easiest way is to just break it at Coyotes/Assassin's Primer. Those were the first "in-universe" books published when 5th came out. In-universe time would be around September 2075.

As for labeling it in the documents? I'd rather not, because then we'd want to label 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st as well. And it's tough to keep track sometimes. For instance, The Chromed Accountant was not posting for quite a while, then just came back up in Hard Targets. And where would the posters in Shadowrun 2050 fall?

Not currently, though you can skim some of the opening bits and bobs in various books - I thought Run Faster had a 'all these guys bought the farm only last month' or something, but it wasn't that.

Unless they're especially significant (e.g. The Big D, Fastjack, Captain Chaos, Hatchetman), you can always drop a name or three, see if they notice.  And in general, you don't have to absolutely keep to canon, eh?  'The rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated,' and all.

There's one for "backstage", but not for the public, I don't think. Mind you, I'd be interested in seeing what people could piece together! There are always odd bits that someone trots out that wind up quietly being kicked under the couch (like Clockwork having a pet feral AI sprite!) but he majority of stuff stays solid.

And, yes, there's a shortage of gunbunnies and samurai on JackPoint.

And, lord-a-mercy, are there a bajillion magicians.

Many JackPointers are described in the Street Legends sourcebook and two digital supplements: Ten JackPointers and Street Legends Supplemental. All of the stats are Fourth Edition, but easy enough to convert. Kane has a full profile, stats, and picture in Street Legends Supplemental (p.13-17).

Thanks – I’d skipped from 1st edition to 5th, so missed a ‘few’ things along the way.

Is there any of these lists that include each poster's "deal"? Like, what there archetype is and any other notable information about them (Red being a vampire, for instance). I think that streetsams are a minority among jackpoint and shadowland posters, but I'm not sure and would like to look at the demographics.

I got bored, so I made a list of all the regular JackPointers from recent books (i.e., ones who commented in at least half of the last ten books or so), and what we know about them. There are some gaps, so please chip in if you know something, and I'll edit the list.

[EDIT: Updated for Better Than Bad.]

Sphinx, you should add some of that to the wikia (http://shadowrun.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Jackpointer). I've added a few of the jackpointers in there, but to have all of them in an easy to search format would be nice...

Aufheben is dead...

Or is he?

Bloody Business p39
Quote
While the intention of this adventure is for Aufheben to live, players are creative and resourceful, quite able to pull of things the gamemaster did not expect. This could result in bad things for Aufheben, and gamemasters should not feel like they have to exert the hand of God just to keep Aufheben alive. That is to say, if the players are intent on killing him and they win in a fair  ght, he should die. This could cause issues in the future when they see Aufheben’s name pop up in JackPoint posts, but they can consider the name to have taken up a Spartacus-like aura, and a new soldier has arisen to carry forward the mantle after the old one fell.

Just another Black Mamba.

What is your policy on foreign language publications?

A number of existing Jackpoint members post in Néo-Révolution (French splat book / mini-campaign), plus posts from the Paris shadow community.  If you want them I could probably gather the info and send it to you.

If you can get me the information (or point me to the books), I'd be willing to put them in with the existing books. Please note, I am recording a LOT of information from the books (not all of it is in the document).

If you want to buy the pdf, it is 10 Euros, here: https://www.black-book-editions.fr/produit.php?id=6545   That it is in French shouldn't stop you from picking up names.  Else if you give me a format you like to use I should be able to go through and strip out the key info for you (the splat book part is only 24 pages)

(as a general background, it starts with a brief note from Bull that establishes the main text as being precisely dated to 14 March, 2080.  The main text is authored by Sim-Eon, and commenters include familiar faces Clockwork, Netcat (who the PCs get to briefly meet in the adventure section), Slamm-0!, Snopes, Chromed Accountant, Mr. Bonds, Plans 9 and 10, Turbo-Bunny, Butch, Elijah, Haze, Winterhawk, 2XL, and even Kane.  (apparently the translation software in 2080 really is that good!)  There are also obviously members of the french shadows community that we've probably not met before.)

Thanks to Beta, I've now taken the list international. I've added in Néo-Révolution and Berlin 2080 to the User's list. I'm going to try and get other Pegasus books integrated, but right now it's a bit too much to buy them all at once. Although if anyone has any DriveThruRPG gift cards laying around...

I haven't translated the Pegasus books (yet). The only thing I found in my searches was a passing paragraph on the region in the Rhein-Ruhr Megaplex book, set in 2074:

Quote
(Apologies, translated via Google Translate, so it's not grammatically correct)
UNDER A STRANGER FLAG

The group-based constitutional monarchy - at least technically speaking - the United Netherlands (VNL) under Queen Amalia is considered a corporate paradise, whose "main shareholder" many meta-people are convinced that Lofwyr is. Neither likes the domestic Regulus Joint Industries various other groups particularly well. In the embossed VNL parliament is divided on this, depending on who chewed or bribed how many MPs. Out of it also results in the very ambivalent relationship of the Netherlands to the Rhein-Ruhr-Plex: On the one hand, there has been since the Black Flood and the refugee waves many family ties, and if the VNL are the gateway to Europe, so the RRP is the one indispensable distribution station. So you benefit from each other. On the other hand, you fear the influence of the dragon. In negotiations about delivery conditions, customs duties and economic agreements the Rhein-Ruhr-Plex is in the stronger position, which is why one urgently needs a lever in the VNL seeks to maintain the lucrative relationship, but doing so to shift the balance in favor of the VNL.

> As long as the British still have a say, there will be a nice standoff, enough for everyone Offers opportunities.
> Zeitgeist

It happens depending on the season and upcoming political and economic conditions to an increase of Runs and river piracy. The Dutch Penose, the most successful Dutch export in adaptive crime support this "shadow lobbyism" by the way, there she earned on both sides. Since she Drug hype is no longer just in districts near the border, but spread out along the Rhine to Bonn, however, this leads to con ict with those already resident Criminals. NRR and VNL accuse each other of not doing enough against organized crime.

Good to know I still have a clean slate and some references I can use. Though I still consider the Dutch Penose unrealistic. -,- It was written at the height of the Amsterdam underworld, but that fell apart pretty much around the same time the Dutch Penose got published.
