One ram plate gives you 360° of ramming action.

What part of the entry makes you think that it is directional so that you'd need more than one?

Quote
Using a ram plate means
that damage done to the rammed vehicle is raised to the next
higher damage value on the ramming table (p. 160, SR4), while
the damage to the ramming vehicle remains the same.

You ram, then the damage is staged up.  That's what it does.
Ram plate is on the front.
Ram plate is in the rear.
Ram plate is above, below and everywhere in between.

Let's be fair here.

We only do that when it benefits something we want to do :D

Or you could just decide that the auto modifications required in the installation of a "proper" ram plate involves also reinforcing the chassis, strengthening the frame, etc, instead of just slapping a push bar on the front-end.  Then it kind of makes sense.

We're talking about a piece of metal that makes a 20 m/ct (24kph) collision equal to a 60m/ct (72kph) collision.

Where does sense come in to this?

No, it's one of the abilities you can improve.  Smell, hearing, tasting, hearing, touching...  Common, however, is beyond even magic.  It's so rare it's a Ghost-Damned Superpower that even Great Dragons can't possess.
