Post by: Stuttrboy on <09-27-16/1123:26>
You wake suddenly in the dark.  Even though you can't quite see the room is familiar to you the makeshift bed you sleep on that remembers the contours of your body and the blanket with that familiar smell of dust and oil.  You only wonder for a moment what woke you as the pounding on the door of the abandoned station starts again.

A gruff voice calls out from the darkness, dammit Teddy we are in a hurry.  Get the hell out here.

You recognize the voice.  It's Oz, one of Gunderson's men.  You get up and answer the door.  Oz is standing there with two other guys all of them strapped.  We need your ride, ours is fucked, he says thumbing over his shoulder to a car missing an entire wheel rims and all, and appears to be on fire.

Gunderson call you yet?  Let's go we're on a time frame here and bring your bug.  You check your comm there is indeed a message from Gunderson.

Oz is on his way do whatever they need you to do.  Guess it's time to start paying back that loan.

Tedd is violently awaken by the pounds and instinctively reach for his gun. It is just Oz, no point to worry not yet.
"Dammit Teddy we are in a hurry, come on!"

"Just a minute", replied Tedd as he hastily dressed. Moments after Tedd left the room while zipping his armored jacket.

"We need your ride ours is fucked"

“Amateurs” said Tedd with a friendly smile, “Problem is I only have two seats on my Thundercloud… “

“Shotgun!” cried Oz almost immediately and Tedd offered some straps to the other two men. He found it hard to hide his grin.

“Strap yourself to the bug… I mean it, if you fall off you become a liability...
Oz you are the gunner for this drive, so make sure that that old AK still is ready for action.”

Tedd places himself at the driver seat of the Thundercloud, it is an old school all-terrain vehicle, without any comforts. It was the kind that required actual skill to drive.

Oz eyes the dune buggy a little skeptically.  I was kinda hoping this thing might have some armor on it.  Can you drive this thing and get you fly in the air? He asks, buckling in.

" I was kinda hoping this thing might have some armor on it. " Tedd said "And I was hoping to get to second base with M.M, ain't going to happen..." he laughed.

"We're looking for three assholes on Harley's that robbed our pharmaceutical rep.  Head south and look for three bikes riding in tandem, Should stick out a little in these parts."

Tedd drive to the south. His fly spy is stored in a small plastic box, it is only the size of an insect so Tedd needed to make sure that it is not squished accidentally. Tedd takes the drone out of its casing and allows it to take off autonomously.
Mainly for show - as people assume that that kind of drone is operated autonomously. Tedd would have loved that, but quality autosofts were out of his reach, heck Tedd could barely afford the drone to begin with.

"Fly is in the air... " said Tedd. Luckily for the mission, Tedd had throdes in his helmet and therefore a direct neural interface into the RCC, and through it to the drone. Tedd's reaction time was so switf that he could safely operate both the fly spy and the car manually.

Your buggy speeds south, you hear the occasional whoop and holler from the back, apparently the thugs are enjoying themselves.  You scan the roads from that sweet spot of high enough to see as much as possible while still being able to see what's on the ground in relative detail.  You fly closer to a few things but quickly make out that it's not what you are looking for.  On the third attempt you find three bikes riding in tandem, you get close enough to identify the Harleys  They are heading south but west of you.  You will have to cut through Marymoor park to catch them.
You will be at -2 dicepool on all skills while operating in AR and driving, doesn't matter yet but just FYI
we are going off road! hold on tight. said Tedd loudly so that everyone hears. Then Tedd carefully navigated the bug inside the park, trying to indeed gain distance from the bikes through wits rather than wild driving. During the drive he asks Oz Any preferences Oz? Brute force bone breaker or quiet tail ? Tedd  loves the off road driving and often frequent the park as there are not many opertunities for that kind of driving in Seattle.

I think it should be enough - as Tedd is not trying anything bold. In case driving in the park is difficult (it is an all terrain vehicle) than I roll pilot test.

You remember a shortcut through the park.  Its not a street more like a sidewalk, well more like a line of broken chunks of concrete and a bridge to get you over the waterway than a sidewalk.  It's not the smoothest ride but you keep the vehicle steady, though one of the mooks in the back loses his footing and would have been pitched over the side if it hadn't been for your strap.

No, just catch up to em.  We're gonna waste these fucks, though we could keep one alive to find out if there's a boss, but only if convenient.

Tedd say Roger that Oz, it goes without saying that Tedd never leaves his house without a gun, a common practice in his neighborhood.  While the fly spy maintains constant eyesight of the three thugs, Tedd continues to brave the park. Carefully observing the current position and direction of the bikes, Tedd makes a rough calculation where he should leave the park to best catch them. His hobby seems to pay off as he remembers a shortcut that may do the job. "I know a shortcut hold on tight" he declares with excitement and drives the buggy on a narrow sidewalk. Parts of the path are going through bushes and that makes the drive a bit rough on the passengers. Tedd seems determined that they'll be able to follow the shortcut all the way through. The bushy path ends with a sharp turn toward a bridge, this is where Tedd almost loses one of the thugs.

"Lucky straps! Thanks Teddy"  says the thug after his friend helped him back on to the bug. In his heart he is probably cursing Tedd and his 'shortcut' but would not say anything in front of his boss. Tedd makes a mental note "I should build more seats in the bug, before somebody gets seriously injured." Not long after they cross the park and Tedd leads the bug to the comforts of road again. Open your eyes guys, they are not very far now. says Tedd.

You careen through the park at breakneck speed doing your best to to follow the smoothest path you can find.  A stand of bushes block your path from the road but nothing you haven't rolled over before.  Crashing through the brush you feel the ground drop out from underneath you.  You don't remember this being here.  you find yourself airborne for a few moments as you launch yourself over a ledge in the landscaping, luckily it's only about half a meter but enough to test your driving skills upon landing.  You see the bikers downrange, now if only you can keep control of your vehicle.

It take some composure but the danger in these cases is over piloting so Tedd allows the buggy to slide for some moments and only moment later once the buggy is stables a bit on the roadTedd  Tedd moves the wheel. The first moments are scary/exciting but he has to be sure that the wheels are actually on the ground otherwise he will lose control over the vehicle.

You feel your guts in your throat for a moment, but you expertly gun the accelerator the moment before you hit to turn your kinetic energy into forward thrust slingshotting you down the parkway.  Both your backseat passengers  lose their footing and one, based on the way he's gone slack and only the strap holding him up has knocked himself unconscious, or at least you hope he's not dead.  Even Oz looks a little green.

As you creep up on the bikers Oz pulls out an Ares Alpha and pumps a grenade into the chamber.  You are about to ask him if that's such a great idea when he turns to you and says You might want to change lanes in a sec.  Thunk!

"Must he be so dramatic ? Can't we just pierce them with holes from the AK-97, perhaps Oz does not know how to gun. Dammit, why didn't he say so. Well, as long as he is spending his own bullets." Thought Tedd.

Since these things escalate quickly, and since they can see the bikes with their own eyes Tedd orders the bug to autonomously maintain its position and closes off AR displays. He does not need this kind of distraction when the bullets start flying. He makes sure that his Ares predator is readily secured in its holster, yet he hopes that they would not shot.
Finally, as Oz aims, Tedd makes sure to place enough ditance from the expected grenade blast to keep the buggy and its poor passengers safe.

You don't have much problem avoiding the blast it was well timed but a little gravel rains down on you, you come to a skidding half-turn stop as the bikes careen off in different directions one rider rolling like a rag-doll down the middle of the parkway.  The other two wipe out one to the left the other to the right.  Oz hops out and heads toward the one who had rolled down the embankment and calls to the rest of you Get the other one!

The other passenger appears to be checking the vitals of his buddy then struggling with his strap, but it appears to have twisted in the commotion and he can't seem to get it undone.  He looks at you and shrugs then goes back to trying to untie himself.  Looks like it's up to you.

The haphazard spray from the sub-machine gun actually clips the guy knocking him just enough off course for you eject him down range as the Morgan slams into his hip with a sickening crunch.  You realize your shoulder is a bit sore, you have a nice new bullet hole in your jacket and a little bruising but are otherwise fine.  The guy laying in the field does not appear quite so lucky,  One of his legs is bent underneath him  at an impossible angle with a bit of bone sticking through his thigh.  He's not quite dead, but he's going to wish he was as soon as the shock wears off and the pain kicks in.

You aren't even sure the guy can hear he's barely holding on to consciousness and bleeding fast.  You find his Ruger a few meters from where he lays and he has a metalink on him along with a certified credstick.  The other ganger with you has finally had the brilliant idea to cut the straps he and his unconscious friend are tangled  and tossed one to you.  A medkit?  for him?   just tie a tourniquet  on him until we get him back to Gundersons people.

You caught him alive?  Good deal I'll take care of this one and head over to you.

Your drone gets there just in time to see Oz swirl the bayonet on the end of his gun in the bikers guts and he turns and starts trotting your way.  You tie on the tourniquet and Oz walks up to the buggy and puts a briefcase into the passenger seat then wipes the blade off with a bloody rag.  Oh, that dudes fucked, did you run him over?  Nice!

He leans over the guy and hefts him into the back of the buggy.  You two will have to wait here.  I'll send someone for ya.

Let's get moving Teddy this guy doesn't have all night.  Not by a long shot.

Still alive is better than then dead and Tedd places the tourniquet on the guy and then carefully place him in the gunner seat. This time Oz is standing up, but the ride is not going to be as wild - hopefully.

Where to Oz? Asks Tedd and since the comlink has such a joke of security Tedd hacks it on the way. He spends the ride distracting himself from the massive cleaning he will have to do tomorrow. I just washed my bug, dammit.  "Lets see who you are biker dude" he thinks as he browses through the comlink memory and stored files.

The clubhouse.  Oz says.  You know exactly where that is.  That's Vesuvius, the best place ever.  It's a combination bar strip club and bathhouse.  Backrooms have hot tubs, upstairs has massage beds rented by the hour.  The cover charge keeps the dregs out.  While upstairs is heaven, the basement is basically the opposite.  This is where most of Gunderson's boys hang out, you've heard whispers about what goes on in there especially to those with "special invitations" as mr. compound fracture undoubtedly has received.

Oz puts another com in your shirt pocket.  Go ahead and crack that one too, he was the guy carrying the loot.

Mr compound fracture goes by Keith Tobias.  From his online profile he apparently like rough sex with leather chains and whips he has a selfie...okay you didn't really want to see that apparently he took a picture of his penis with an apparently brand new dolphin piercing based on the swelling and blood.  That is a picture you are not likely to forget.  All in all it's nothing much you haven't seen before but there is a message from a Danny Forsythe about the job tonight.  Danny you soon discover is mr swirly guts.  It seems he was put on the trail of this job by a person code named Flicker, no fixer or other intermediary but apparently the location of the reps meet site was leaked to these guys.  You've never heard of a Flicker though.

By the time you pull up to Vesuvius no one has heard of a Flicker, maybe he's new, and you get the same info on Forsythe as what Oz said.

You did good Teddy, here's a fifty, go get yourself a lap dance or something before you talk to Gunderson...Maybe leave your coat though, you're kind of a mess.  Oz chuckles as he drags Keith off to the assortment of pain that awaits him.

Tedd pockets the money and nods at Oz, he enters the nightclub. A lap-dance is the furthest thing in his mind instead, he enters toilets and refreshes up a bit trying to achieve a more respected outlook. He seats by the bar and orders a beer. That was quite a night - or a nightmare he thinks as he browses the place to figure out the coming and going and the security layout of the place.

He looks both at physical security and even takes a look at the place in the matrix. Tedd is not really paranoid there, he needs a distraction from the temptations of that place. He believes that places like that are disrespectful towards women and the guilt he'll feel afterwards or the disappointed look in his parent's eyes does not worth a moment of pleasure. If his mother ever finds up that Tedd has been to a place like that, or had a lap dance, or worse run-over a guy on purpose, she will be heart broken. Still, there is work Tedd and leisure Tedd and while work Tedd gets things done, leisure Tedd tries to keep things civilized.

Tedd waits patiently for Gunderson, perhaps once he has some money of his own and a real car, he will also have a girlfriend. Then he can enjoy all these forbidden, delicious sexual delicacies without feeling this terrible guilt. In the meantime, there are debts and a single car with no doors and with blood stains on the seat. That car would not get him any romantic dates in the foreseeable future but it is a killer for off-road driving... "At least I have that pleasure in my life." He thinks.

Tedd will seat at the bar and exchange casual conversation with the bartender until Gunderson is ready to see him. When he is summoned he will tip the bartender 50 nuyen from the Credstick Oz gave him.

Tedd replies  Thank you Gunderson, that is fair. Thanks for giving me this opportunity, I'll be right at your office. Better make it quick so that I can drive home safely.

Tedd tips the Bartender girl, he then stops again by the restrooms to freshen up and wash his face. He is clearly tired, getting that debit down a bit is a nice twist for that night, though Tedd knows that he'll need many nights like that to finish the debt and even then, he'll still need to sustain himself somehow.

"Face it lad, Gunderson owns you for a long time now."  he thinks.

With a more practical note he thinks
" I am still short for monthly rent, perhaps Gunerson can allow me to make something extra by restoring Oz's car, either that or strip and recycle it for parts. Will give me something to do until there is job again."

Tedd venture to the basement where he knows Gunderson is, with a bit of awe as he has never been there before.

You get back to the pump station and check out the car.  It's still smoldering.  The car seems to have overheated do to the bullet holes in the grill that penetrated the radiator, the hoses are fucked and the engine has thrown a rod on top of it all.  It might be cheaper just to buy a new one, but you think you can still fix it, though you will need time parts and a lot of elbow grease.  You estimate out of pocket expenses to be around 1200 but a rebuild like this could get you 5K if you pressed it a little.

Tedd has 1700 Nguyen, enough to make the repair though in that case he better do it well as there is rent and the interest on the debit. Things look a bit grim, but that car might get him to survive another month somehow, if he actually manages to fix it.

>> I will never rip you of Oz, I know better.  It will not be cheap though - you need to understand it as there is some serious damage.  The radiator is fucked and the engine needs some love. Many mechanics will just tell you to buy a new one car but I can bring it to life again just like I did to the buggy. Will give you an exact estimate in the morning as there may be things that I missed during the night.

In the morning Tedd will either give Kira the comlinks to strip for parts, or will do so himself.
I rolled for Tedd - but if she is not busy Kira can extract more value out of the burners.
Stripping comlinks for parts (http://orokos.com/roll/444747): 2#10d6t5 1 3
Tedd nets 0.5 packs from the cannibalization they are worth 125 nuyen and he can fence it to Kira for 38. (loyalty*5%) or just give it to her as a favor.  They are good friends after all.
Once that is done he will spend the time in junk yards and auto shops trying to find the parts that he need to make the repair, where he plans to work on the car as if his life depend on it, his only priority for mechanical work is shadow work. Tedd is motivated by establishing himself as a reliable mechanic so that he can survive.

It's good you double checked in the morning, the oil pan is cracked and one of the struts has broken free from a shock.  After checking scrap yards and a few shops you are able to put together the parts for 1600 nu-yen.  Those parts aren't very labor intensive  to replace so you think 5500 would be a reasonable price but this work if done well could be worth as much as 6k.
I'm going to go with a 1 day extended test /10 or 6 hour /20 if you'd prefer to do other things during your days.  Your choice.
Tedd will work on the car since he wakes up, until he drops, he notifies Oz of the damages and gives him an estimate of the restore price of 6k, knowing that Oz may negotiate him down from that price if the quality is not satisfying. Once he assembles the parts he begins working full days on the car.
He has a special work area so it gives him +1 for supperior conditions and I assume that it is not difficult to find plans for the car for another +1 or +2 if he can find augmented reality plans.
(augmented reality.
Repair + modifiers (http://orokos.com/roll/444770): 11d6t5 4 Day 1   4 hits with AR, 3 with regular plans.
Repair + modifiers (http://orokos.com/roll/444763): 10d6t5 3 Day 2   7 hits with AR, 5 with regular plans.
Repair + modifiers (http://orokos.com/roll/444764): 9d6t5 2 Day 3 , 9 hits with AR, 10 with regular plans.
Repair + modifiers (http://orokos.com/roll/444765): 8d6t5 5 Day 4 14 hits with AR, 11 with regular plans.
Repair + modifiers (http://orokos.com/roll/444766): 7d6t5 1
Repair + modifiers (http://orokos.com/roll/444767): 6d6t5 0 (no glitch)

If I understood correctly the threshold was 10 so Tedd pulled it off. With AR I'd say he can even pull it off very nicely. Without it the quality is reasonable but not spectacular.

You begin the first day of your project pulling the engine out.  cleaning out the detritus in the car and tossing the burnt hoses and belts.  Most of the day will be taking apart the engine and cleaning it to have a clear look at what it is you are fixing.
Title: Re: [IC] Prelude: Teddy
Post by: gilga on <10-16-16/0227:49>
Tedd worked rigorously on the engine, cleaning up what could work and tossing to a 'junk' pile the parts that were beyond repair.  Around noon his flatmate, Kira awakens and still yawning she leaves the shop and says "A new project? do you think you can get that car to work... it seems bad."  Tedd smiles at her and say "Well... my life depends on my ability to restore it so..."

The decker replied "Well, you are too serious, I am sure that Gunderson would not have covered your debt unless he had some plan of how you are going to repay him."

Tedd say "I do not share this optimism, but it is encouraging that you do not worry.  I had a run yesterday. "

Kira said "Oh really... how was it?"

Tedd said "Driving was fun, running over a person was terrible and so was transporting him to that strip club."

Kira said "You'll get used to it, I think. "

Tedd said "I never thought I'll be doing that kind of thing to make a living ya know... Oh but I got a little something for you." He said with a grin.

He goes to his buggy and hands her the two burners "Comlinks are garbage, not worth stealing but the parts are good. "

Kira pockets the comlinks in her purse and said "Thank you Teddy, you really know how to pumper a girl." She was only half sarcastic, she loved scavenging electronics and then using them for odd modifications of other electronics."

The rest of the day was uneventful and the two only meet once for dinner.

You sleep through the night.  you have a few hours to kill and still keep on schedule.  You could run a few errands or get an early start, or blow the whole thing off and hit the strip club.
Title: Re: [IC] Prelude: Teddy
Post by: gilga on <11-12-16/0406:30>
Teddy gets an early start, he knows that his life hang on a limb and that he has to get it right to be able to pay Gunderson and come up with his part of rent, Tedd is too shy and too conservative to truly enjoy a strip club or anything of that nature. Had he grew anywhere else, Tedd would have been a nerdy good boy rather than a criminal.

Teddy finishes the scheduled work for the day and sees an opportunity, if he pulls another half shift today and tomorrow he could be done with the car after just three days instead of four.  time is money but then he would be working eating and sleeping for two days straight with no down time.  Is it worth it he ponders.
Title: Re: [IC] Prelude: Teddy
Post by: gilga on <12-22-16/1421:36>
Teddy decides not to rush the work, he want it done well and he wants it done thoroughly and he wants to test it 10 times before delivering the car to Oz.  He knows that if he is to establish himself as a mechanic there are no shortcuts and he should not be that tired when nobody is pressuring him to finish. After all, if he does it well, Oz and Gunderson are going to send more work down his way.

You get your scheduled work done early and knock off to join Kira for dinner.  She seems to be in a hurry.  As she loads her plate and starts digging in before even sitting down.

Help yourself.  I gotta rush though, I got a job across town.  I'll be gone a few days, but I'll have my com if you need anything.

You think to yourself If I push on tonight and get up early I could have the car done by noon, quick and reliable.

Tedd says to Kira "I understand... Good luck"   and once she leaves he shrugs
"Darn it... ". He finishes eating alone, eager to get to work.

You work into the the night, catch some Z's and finish up the next morning after a quick bite.  The clock is edging past 1215 hours by the time you are checking off your last point of inspection.  You figure the job is tight, probably worth nearly 6k but you think you can start it a bit higher and let him talk you down from that.

Once the work is done, Tedd heads to the showers and then back to sleep. He worked so hard and he is not such a great negotiator he'll better do so in the morning. He is excited and rolls over his bed multiple times, thinking "One day I will have a car of my own... with doors and everything."  Eventually he gets some sleep, and once he is up, he contacts Oz to let him know that the car is ready, Tedd offers to drive it to Oz so that he can see for himself, or they can meet at the gaz station.

The place looks empty with Kira's gone, Oz uses the soy processor to make some fake bacon and eggs and then takes his breakfast outside along with some orange flavored juice and a small napkin. He idly enjoys the sunlight of morning, pollution was not that terrible that day and for a brief moment, Tedd felt happy.

In the morning, Tedd cuts his breakfast short, he locks Oz's car and places a drone to stand watch for it. Then Tedd loads his equipment on the Morgan and heads off toward the next round, where he intends to meet Gunderson.  He enters the place and scout it, a bit to see if he can spot Gunderson. The drinking den is probably abandoned this early in the morning.

You arrive back at the station after dropping off Sky.  You give the car a once over to make sure it looks good before Oz arrives.  Right as Oz shows up and is getting out of the taxi your com link chirps with a message.  Oz comes up to the car and checks it out.  Looks good!  Let's see how it rides eh?

"You bet your ass it is good, worked on it on every waking moment, it is good as new really. Had to replace half the car, but well these neighborhoods are good for parts if you know what I mean." He lets Oz have a look, and then say "I afraid it is an expensive piece of work, the car was in a really bad shape, I had to do an overhaul to the engine and alternator." He let's Oz admire the car for a moment and then take it for a ride, "I was thinking 7K for the work and parts." He said finally.

Your com link chirps again.

"I am a little in a hurry Oz, I sort of have a run. Wanted to see your face when you get your car back. Let's drive a bit no problem... "  he said and instructed Oz to drive to the direction he needed.

It was only while he was enroute to destination that Tedd opens his link to see what is the matter, well... mentally indicate his glasses to show him messages anyhow.
OOC:  Where are you directing him to drive?  Are you going with him or are you taking your Morgan?
You bring up your com and display the two text messages from Gunderson...of course they are from Gunderson.  I'm confused.  We negotiated an additional 5k for the job if you go "right now".  You do know what "right now" means right?  So when I get a call from Jack saying only Sky is there and you "had an errand" you can understand my consternation.  call me back, right now.

The second one is shorter.  Goddammit Tedd you better not be ducking my calls.

You jump a little as your com chirps again and a third text from Gunderson displays right. now. Tedd.

He instructs Oz to follow him in the general direction of the meet. After a few Blocks Tedd asks Oz "what do you think?"

Oz basically races you to the Asylum
I'm assuming those were the directions you gave him
.  Once there he gets out of the car and walks up to you with a contemplative look on his face.  Not bad.  I think 7k is a bit much though and she feels like she has a little less get up and go than she used to.  I'll give ya 5200 for it.  You got a run here?  Who's hiring, Jesus or Jeanette?  If it's Jeanette, thank your lucky stars.  That girl has a body built for breaking beds.

Tedd said  "Common OZ,  you can do better than 5.2k  - the car was reconstructed by hand and still holds most of its value... Besides if anyone else had fixed it you had to pay them for picking up the car as well. Let's settle at 6.5k? "
