Hi there,

Does anyone know a good way to counter a jammer?

How do you deal with one of those if your drone gets jammed?
Run in and get it out? shoot who or whatever is jamming through the head?
Any form of counter measures technologically that can be used? like some form of signal strength enhancement or such?..

1: Signal Scrub provides 2 Noise Reduction.
2: Your RCC can split its Device Rating over Noise Reduction (shared with the Drones) and Programs (shared with the Drones).
3: According to Aaron as official clarification, wireless communication is not blocked by Noise. As such, the only time you may suffer penalties from Noise with a Drone is when you're jumped in.

By the way, for a Rigger who doesn't jump in or use Command Device, Jammers are a blessing. 6 Noise from a Jammer, of which a Decker will compensate perhaps 3, and -2 penalty from being on the Public Grid, combined with 6+1 Firewall and a DR of 3 (or a Willpower that's higher) means the Decker loses 5 dice and you resist with 10. Add the Barrens and you'd be at 10 vs -7.

Wait what? You can't jam communication of any kind through the use of a jammer? So you can still give commands to drones and talk to your buddies when a jammer is active?..
Thats pretty weird, and suddenly makes them way more ineffective...  :o

It does clearly state that it also blocks radio signals, if you are not using wireless com then you're using radion signals, which won't work either. So how exactly does communication work then if someone uses a jammer?

Don't ask me, I consider that ruling inane. It even clashes with the explanation of what Head Jammers are used for. It's official, though.

I doubt it. I deem the chances that that ruling will not become the official FAQ/Errata ruling as quite small.

SR5 have rules when you no longer get wireless bonuses.

SR5 currently lack rules how and when a jammer block communications. It just say it does.

My guess is that it will be some sort of electronics warfare test where high jammer rating make it easier and high device rating or noise reduction make it harder.

it's not official, it's just Aaron's view. And its plainly wrong.

Some question:

1. Is your answers are "official" answers from the SR5 developer group?

They're as official as I can make them. I worked on the book and on the rules committee that came up with the rules before the book was written. I'm working on the Shadowrun FAQ that will be released once Line Developer Jason M. Hardy has a chance to look it over. Those answers I'm not 100% certain about I vet with Jason and the folks who work on Shadowrun. I never post an answer that I think might be contradicted in a future update. Other than that, you get what you pay for.
