Thanks for setting this up. Can we get an LFG forum set up? Something to help those who are looking for players or a group to join.
Its good to have an official forum for this stuff. Never felt quite right at Dumpshock.
I've been a long-time lurker over there. Mostly because the threads move way too quickly (three pages of unread threads in 4 hours!!) and because I never felt comfortable jumping into conversations. Not always because of what Mara said, but that was the reason on more than a few occasions. Its good to have an official forum for this stuff. Never felt quite right at Dumpshock.
That would be because of the over-all bad feel of that place, no doubt. Believe me,
I never really liked that place much...certain posters there tended to be very insulting,
belligerent, and condescending....and EVERYWHERE. Someone starts a thread to discuss
one thing, and next thing you know, it is either Mr. lucky, Ghoul Appocalypse, hate on
the Ghost Walker story/immortal elves, or house rules that had nothing to do with the original
poster....Place was just not friendly....
Hey, c'mon. Let's not dive into negativity just to rant about how negative somewhere else is. There's no need to bash somewhere else to say you like it here, y'know? Its good to have an official forum for this stuff. Never felt quite right at Dumpshock.

Hi Gang. New Runner. Looks like I'm ahead of the herd. Just looking to horn my way in on some Runner action. I am a long time CBT player (Joseph_Mallan) but an udder noob to the Shadows. Looking forward to my first adventure in the coming weeks. ;D
Thanks fella's. Like to share a Buttface Amber Ale? It's a good drink from the Ram in IN.I've been to GenCon twice and still haven't made it to the Ram. Third time's the charm, though. and I'll definitely be hitting them in 2011.
yes yes thank you for the nice forum! and FastJack...you really are missing out, the ram is amaaaazing.I'll back Him up on that.
Oh thank God!C'mon, Lloyd, ease up. You can like this forum without having to spit on another one.
Thank you for getting this up and running so I don't have to go look at that Hellhole DS ever again.
I will more than likely volunteer again at the Pathfinder Society, since it's a good group of people and they off some nice kickbacks against badges and credit at the Paizo booth.
Oh thank God!

Me and the Wife Loved the Ram. Got a shirt and a menu (it was DnD themed).
Hi Guys! I only recently got back into table top gaming after a super long hiatus, but I've got a solid group of guys that I've been gaming with for the past few months and we're looking to eventually get into some Shadowrun 4e soon. I grew up playing the SNES and Sega video game versions and I spent plenty of time reading the old paperback novels, but my experience with 2e was limited to a handful of sessions. Looking forward to posting here and getting back to the shadows!
Hoi, chummers!
I've been into the shadows for a long time. And by the grace of some kind of god(s), my hop is still intact...mostly. Nowadays, they call me Mystic. Glad to have found this place, it will be nice to talk biz. I'll be around, so feel free to drop a line. And remeber: shoot straight, conserve ammo, and NEVER deal with a dragon.
8)
Off to a rocketing start here I see. Hello everyone.
Whats with the hate for DS? ??? I didn't have that many experiences over there (although I'm finally happy Shadowrun has it's own forums on there website finally) ;D
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you.Now thats udderly rediculous!

Actually I think its "Never CUT A DEAL with a dragon." I have found deals with dragons must lucrative in the past. One has to know his place, though.
Anyway, welcome to you, Method and Mystic :)

And I have the Underdark Stout one in my dresser! And the Ram is the most expensive food you will never regret eating. Everrr. Next time you're in Indianapolis, GO THERE.
I suppose I should have posted here first, huh. XD I suck at welcome/intro posts.
I'm Usda's daughter. Unfortunately I see he's mentioned me quite a bit. Joined because we're starting a SR game as soon as I stop procrastinating, Dad's here, and I'm clueless and would like to try and avoid constantly calling The Doomed One whenever I get hopelessly confused since SR is SO ALIEN to everything else I've played. I draw lots of ponies which you can see over at my dA account (chaoticxinsane.deviantart.com). I've been playing Battletech since I was 6, D&D almost as long, love me some pathfinder, and SR sure's hell looks interesting. The setting's up my alley.

And most of the time that place is between their teeth, either metaphorically or literally. 8)
Just wanted to pop in a quick "Hello" and sharing the irrelevant info that I'm here. Carry on.
Krah!

Huh, let me just park the BattleMech over in the shadows there. All right good, all settled. Now to remember where I parked my Harley Scorpion.
Nice place you have Jason, great to see Shadowrun get an official forum. Now I don't have to hang out in stompy robot land all the time.
Cheers,

Your SN looks so familiar. I know I've heard my dad mention you. You one of the Wild Boys or does he know you from somewhere else? XD Haaaaiiii person.
That could have been fun (in a creepy way) if there were any female gamers around back then. There weren't. :'(

Well, this should be fun. I'm happy to be part of both Dumpshock and this place. Any excuse to read more threads, really.

Welshman, don't bother parking the Mech- just adapt. I'm actually trying to figure out how to cast spells from my Jupiter so I can take part in the next Best Ever tournament. Daviar and Hadry are going down! ;D

Oh I'm happy to adapt... Which will win a Force 10 Earth Elemental or an Awesome?
Now if I could bring over a suit of even Tornado PAL, I'd be a happy chummer. Let me bring in an Infiltrator or Kopis and I'll have mayhem a plenty.
Until then, I gotta go dig up my gyro mount and find a replacement for this antique candy cane machine gun.
Hello alll, another Dumpshocker here. Got a quick question is there anyway to change the boards color scheme? The light it hurts my eyes... :'(
Hi. Since this seems to be the closest thing to an introduction thread there is, I'll introduce myself. I'm Steven. I registered my account I think the first day it opened, but haven't gotten around to posting 'til now.
I like gaming in general, but Shadowrun is one of my favorite RPGs, especially 4E... though there's aspects of 3E I miss. I'm a Dumpshocker too, BTW. I try to buy all the 4E books I can. My main love is the original World of Darkness, but since that fan community is dwindling by the day I spend less and less time on those games. Also working on some gaming stuff of my own that probably won't have wide appeal..
Hope to be posting here frequently. :)
I've been over on the CBT forums for a while,Interesting how many people here are from there. Including me.
I'm a big fan of background books like the Almanac (and setting books like Handbook: Major Periphery States over in Battletech). I guess I like reading guidebooks for fictional places!I hear you. My main reason for my interest in BT, such as it was...

Anyway, yeah, belated introductory post by me. I decided to sign up here yesterday basically on a whim :D
Used to be on the CBT froum with the same handle, and I see some familar nicks here, but elsewise I know nobody, heh.
I sculk the CBT forum and I'm a regular on BattleCorps. Handle's there are Joe Mallan.
She wants to join but is a little less lost in teh CBT history than she is here. She is figuring out her finances as to weather she wants to shell out the cash for BattleCorps. I asked if I could have her as a contact since she is a character in the Merc sorcebooks and I do technically know her! But I was given a Stone Rhino and patted on the head! 8) I was happy ;DI sculk the CBT forum and I'm a regular on BattleCorps. Handle's there are Joe Mallan.
Joe... I'm going to have to hurt you now. You didn't tell me you had off spring smarter than you.
When is she going to paint a Mech and join the Regiment? We need a Mallan that doesn't get lost in his cockpit. ;)
I'm so in the dark.
I'm so in the dark.A few yeas ago the COmmandos had a worldwide event for CBT (Lawyers, Guns and Money) There was a prize. Six particapants would be chosen from the Commando's reports to Cannonized in the games fiction. When the dust settled, my little prodigy had earned a place among the winners and was entered into one of the Sourcebooks as an aide to a Merc Commander. I was very proud indeed! ;D
Chances are, he does, for that long that he has been around... ;D Welcome on board :)I'd be offended if it weren't true... :P
Oh, if only you knew some of the people I played MechWarrior with! ::)
Sometimes by the older guys.

Wow, I can't believe it took me...two years to figure out there might be a forum on the Shadowrun website. Talk about a critical glitch. I think I could do with some headware. No problems... These forums only launched back in September.
I've played Shadowrun on and off since 3e; really enjoy the setting, but it's hard to find games. Hope I can find something on the PBP board.

The computer is your FriendFunny enough, I used to run Paranoia demonstration games at local conventions... ;D

Have fun here, and just don't ask what the 'kaf an cookies are made of...all will be good.
Hey everybody :D
we just switched to SR lately as we got bored of medieval settings, and now I gonna make my gang raise my character's P-two ;D
Or at least I hope so ,I got a slight feeling they could get her in trouble.
In rl I am a social paedagogue, currently unemployed as I got a lucrative side job in the pharmaceutical business right now which earns more money, 23 years old, from Austria.
I am here to brush up (or re learn the rules) set some things in stone in my head about the setting, become an informative and knowledgable GM. And then wait, just wait till the day they get bored of 4ed D&D.

Newb on the block just saying hi.Not really any threads on pointers, but we have a ton of games going on over in the PbP Sub-Forum (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?board=17.0). If you read through a few, you can get a feel for how they are being run.
Found you guys while looking for resources for an upcoming SR4 pbp I'm running on another website. I liked the overall tone of this website so I decided to register and make myself known. So if someone can point me to the forum(s) that have pointers on running SR4 as a pbp I'd be appreciate it.
Oh, never mind them. I screw up all the time and I'm still here and haven't been Banhammered.Yet. :P

Huge newbie to Shadowrun, but a member at the BT forums for a while. Discovered Shadowrun about a week ago and after some scrutiny and reading the QSR, kinda fell in love with it and bought a copy of the 20th Anniversary LE core rulebook yesterday. I also kinda fell in love with the computer wallpaper as well. Any company that takes the time to make wallpaper from the art of the RPG is tops with me. There's a lot of cool people on these forums too, and am looking forward to enjoying this game.
Hi, first post :DHello first post, I'm CanRay! Welcome to the Forums!
Wait wait, his posts have content? ;DOn occasion.
Often, actually. It's the context that might take some time to figure out.Either I'm very deep, or very weird.
And if you ever get the urge to try your hand at GMing a play by post game, you'll find a lot of people here eager to play.
Kernel, I might take you up on that.YOU WANT ME TO PLAY A GAME?
Wow, you'd think you were waiting over 20-years to try and play a game of Shadowrun like I have!Kernel, I might take you up on that.YOU WANT ME TO PLAY A GAME?

So you know the secrets of L-Space?! That's awesome!L-Space is difficult, I only know how to get in. Getting out, that's difficult.

Ah, cool, so could anyone point me somewhere good to start?
Right, I'd be quite a bit more likely to find games online (especially because I don't know the 'geek spots' in my area and the nearest city is a 3-mile bike away anyway)Welcome to the forums! Have fun, ask questions and try not to wake the sleeping dragon in the corner.
And am I likely to find the sourcebooks in PDF format?
I think there are not enough Dwarfs in the Shadowrun books
You had me until the ois sound!
Anyhow, glad to have ya.
Welcome, Deepeyes! Since you're in Canada, run a game for CanRay so we don't have to listen to him whine any more, will ya? Thanks. ;)Deepeyes being an exception, I am NOT going to Quebec City.
Sorry for the stereotype but I was thinking of a kind of French female power player like Catherine Medici and the thought of an evil Celine Dion would be a hilarious SR character. (Look what I can do with a Rocker archetype! This is for you Paul "Shadowbeat" Hume!)

Wondering what would be the best character to sort of cut your teeth on. I had played a Combat Mage before, and kind of interested in Rigger or Street Samurai. But just wondering if Rigging is too complicated.Yes and no; Rigging, now, is sort of a sub-set of hacking, which means that you can easily extend a tendril in that direction. (Not that everyone can't, it's just that these days Rigging isn't a bit more closely tied than the others.
Greetings, chummers.Hoi chummers!
<-Fairly new to this site. Been a long standing member @ TheAmazonBasin for DiabloII (same handle, even). I've been a PnP RPG'er since D&D was 3 paper booklets in a little WHITE cardboard box, I've played about 80% of the RPG's published, and I remember grumbling when SR went to 2ndEd ("You mean we gotta buy the rulebook AGAIN!!???") I was running at the time... grumble, grumble, grumble.....
My current game-group is doing a Mutants&Masterminds campaign, but we've decided our next run will be in the Shadow's...
Looking forward to all the great interaction here, & hope to chat w/ y'all real soon.

And very happy to be back in the shadows again.
...
now, how do I justify digging up Barnabas Collins AGAIN...
Welcome to the boards! Take a spin on the many different topics we got going, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Ancient runner finally coming out of retirement. Ran back when the Big D was still alive and I got "retired." What have I missed?Well, with the release of Shadowrun 2050, you can relive those glory days while using the 4th Edition ruleset. :D

Greetings chummers, My name is James and im glad that i finally found a Shadowrun community thats actually active, been a fan of the franchise since i played the sega genesis game as a kid and im barely getting into the novels now. Nice to meet you all.Nice to meet you James, welcome to the insanity! ;D

Hey, Wak! Don't scare off the newbs(and, of course, don't go freaking the mundanes, either...)
Is there some sort of... "chat room" or something like that around... like a place to talk "live" to people hanging around without clustering the boards? We don't have a chat function here, nor on the main site (http://www.shadowrun4.com/). Your best bet is outside the system. ;)
Even willing to boot up the ol' Excalibur and go on Mirc if I have to :P
While I got you here, FastJack, I was wondering... you know in the books, when you can read comments from other runners... Are those from people from this board sometimes or are they all kind of "made up"?They are all made up by the authors of the book/article. Although we do have some sections on the boards here where forum members can add their own comments.
Well... I guess from now on, I'll make sure to write so serious Mark Twain Sh!t 8)

A few of the new kids think he even put himself into the game, not realizing that his character was in the game books long before he started writing for Shadowrun. We correct them politely.

A number of 'old' characters are nods to players; I even got put into something somewhere, misremember where. I find myself wondering, however, where exactly Bull got put into the game books before he started writing for the game.
The "three guys in a garage" community is coming back slowly. My garage is too cold to write in, otherwise my stuff would be one-guy-in-a-garage. :P
He was active in the old UseNet boards, which even *I* can't claim, and I'm older'n dirt. He was a frequent chatter there, so ...
... writers do *not* put their own avatars in the game. Editorial would pull 'em out, and the rest of the gang would mercilessly pummel them. Seriously, if CanRay was in the books, you think the freelancers could stop themselves from abusing him in every product? :)
Personally, I'd love to see a little bit of that old giveback to the community at large, but, these days, RPG companies are owned by conglomerates, not three guys in a garage. There're legal hurdles, NDA agreements, copyright issues ... it makes it tricky.
Why not, I'm abused here, I'm abused in real life, I might as well shove an avatar into the books to get some abuse as well.... writers do *not* put their own avatars in the game. Yeah...like the guy that "borrowed" a large section of the old Eridani Light Horse write-up, then added his own fan-fiction
to it(putting himself in) and tried to claim that because of that, he should own the BattleTech IP....and tried to fight for
that in court(thankfully..he LOST)... It is a sad state when there cannot be nods like that to fans anymore because
of guys like that..

Well, if you REALLY like the old school (and who doesn't?), Catalyst just released a brand new setting book: Shadowrun 2050 (http://www.battlecorps.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=28_187_239&products_id=3025) which let's you play in the classic era with the current rules set

Hi all, I'm kind of new to SR, though I've read at least 20 of the novels, (some were written before I was born XD) I also own copies of SR4A, Augmentation, Arsenal, Street Magic, and Unwired. (btw the first SR books I read were that trilogy from the 80's something to do with a dragon in the title of one of them...can't remember now)Never Trust a Dragon by Robert N. Charrette.
Greetings! Have a look around, ask some questions and poke the Canadians with a stick.
I did post here once, but things happened, and I drifted away from Shadowrun. Lately I've started reading SR novels, and reignited my interest in the game.Good to see you back!
And it's good to be back. :)
Greetings! Have a look around, ask some questions and poke the Canadians with a stick.
Just make sure it is not a sharp stick...while they may be thick blooded, they are thin-skinned...

I know their weakness.
And hello to you both! Shadowrun fan, obviously, but I go back to the first days of Battletech as well. I'm ... kinda old.
Regardless, welcome aboard!
I'm mostly interested in running games with a solid mix of social backstabbing, spying and small unit tactical combat elements in it. Any suggestions on other books I should be looking at?
WAR! (for small unit tactical combat elements and some of the gear)
Spy Games(for the spying related stuff)
Dirty Tricks (for politics!)
Hello Snape!

Yeah, feel free to poke at CanRay's inability to actually play. Everyone does it. :P

Also, Snape:
Enjoy your visit. Stay awhile. stay FOREVER! *evil, maniacal laughter*

I always GM, not Play. There is a difference. If I didn't get to enjoy the game at all, I probably shouldn't be writing for the company now, should I? :P

My group's solution to the "but..I want to play!" for me is: me and another person rotate GMing. After all...how would the players know
about the special hell some of them make GMing if other players don't get to go there, too!

Wait. The 'special hell' is for GMs too? Dammit...
Darned.Actually, I got smacked not that long ago for quoting The Road Warrior during a game of Old Skool Gamma World by an Aussie. I then told her she couldn't do any French, Irish, Scottish, or First Nations accents in rebuttal. :P
I'm sure CanRay had tons of jokes aboot Aussie accents.
Note to self: Actually remembering to look around is generally a good idea; finding the welcome thread is generally a good way to start off than in a storyline. :P
New player from Sydney, Australia; well not completely new, I've stumbled my way through a story with some friends. But mostly new nonetheless.

But... But it's Canberra. I mean it's not Tasmania, but still!
And yes, there do seem to be a bunch of Aussies popping out of the woodwork...
Still better than people thinking Australia is exactly like Mad Max, or Neighbours, or a horrifying combination of the two.Of course it isn't. There's also Quigly Down Under.

Quigley Down Under is still great. And every time they show it on TV, the makers of his rifle's replica see a bump in sales.I can confirm this, Dad used to know a gunsmith that sold those rifles. Had one of his own, as well.
Hello everyone,
I am a recent member to the Shadowrun world. Been lurking for awhile and have decided that it's time to join up. I'm hoping it helps with the the brain freeze headaches some of the Shadowrun world seems to be so good at causing for a newbie.
Well, you know what they sing: *Terrible terrible singing* We are one, but we are many, and from all the lands on earth we come...Note to self: Actually remembering to look around is generally a good idea; finding the welcome thread is generally a good way to start off than in a storyline. :P

The best thing about kids? You can game with them! ;D

Sorry, I get a bit dark myself. Which is why I throw so much (sometimes possibly too much) humor into my works.
Well, not to mention that dystopian cyberpunk doesn't lend itself to the recruitment of 8 year old girls, really. I'm trying, but I'm having to start out with fantasy.I don't know... There are ShadowBronies, and /dev/grrl.
Have all the megacorps be amusement parks?I touched on San Diego ComicCon in Safehouses (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/99534/Shadowrun%3A-Safehouses), which got referenced by TV Tropes! ;D
And my group went on a Shadowrun against "The Magic Kingdom", and had the audacity to be surprised when the lawn got up and started beating the house they were in.If your team can be surprised by anything you throw at them then they obviously don't hang around here!

Hello all.
Lurker since last year, when a few friends and I picked up SR4A after burning out on a couple of other systems. Turns out if you make an account and don't bother posting anything for six months, it'll vanish into the astral.
Can't thank you folks enough for threads like BP Character Generation: the Math You Really Should Know (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=10206.0).

Welcome Equinox & BlueTroll!
Equinox, you wouldn't happen to be related to "Equinox, Defender of the Horde" by any chance?
<trigger.obligatory_CanRay_mockery />Great, now it's become such a running joke a computer can be programmed for it.

Welcome! Look around, ask some questions, wish Can Ray a belated birthday, and watch out for the sleeping dragon in the corner.
How rude of me! ive been posting nonstop since some time and haven't introduced myself!
Im WrongConcept! pretty new to the shadows (ive played two whole campaings making it to prime runner status on both on SR4 and ive been narrating my first campaing of Shadowrun SR4 a month now) this place has help me with many things so as to answer most of my questions as narrator! So thank you very mucho for setting up this place, my native language is Spanish but i think i can handle myself well in English (if you think otherwise then go Grammar Nazi on my buttoks). So thanks for being here!

spazzy about that.

Mirikon you can't fool me everyone knows Canada is just a myth used to scare people into thinking that in one country you can find french and english at the same time coexisting in harmony... Im not that stupid!... :P*Looks outside* I wouldn't exactly call it "Harmony".
hey everyone I am new, just dropping into say hi. I am getting back into SR. I have played since... 2E. I have a ton of stuff, but figured, time to update. I have the 5e corebook. I see there is a ton of 4E books, can I use those with 5E? such as the Seattle 2072?Seattle 2072 is almost all fluff, and fluff is editionless. ;D Fluff works for everything!

The harder Crunch books, like say Arsenal, would be harder to use.
If you've been gone since 2E, the books I'd recommend getting are Seattle 2072, Sixth World Almanac, and Storm Front, for sure. There are other books which are heavy on the fluff (which, as was said earlier, is editionless) that give you a more in depth view of the metaplot as it advanced. Here's a list of the books since 2E I'd recommend you grab.
3rd Edition:
Loose Alliances - Pretty much 100% fluff, describing a lot of the little (and not so little) organizations around the world, in a bunch of different fields.
State of the Art 2063 & 2064 - Good 'atmosphere' pieces, and some of the fluff is definitely still relevant in 2075.
Renraku Arcology: Shutdown, Brainscan, and System Failure - These three campaigns are mostly useless unless you want to go back and do a 2060s game, but they give you the best blow-by-blow of the events that brought the world crashing down, and led into 4th edition.
Others - There's a bunch of older books that can do some good worldbuilding for you. Lone Star, Tir Tairngir, Aztlan, Shadowbeat, Threats 1 & 2, Corporate Shadowfiles, and so on.
4th Edition:
Emergence - Deals with the emergence of Technomancers and AIs, and how the whole world went fraggin' INSANE. The campaign stuff is useless now, but there's quality fluff that gives you things as they happened, and unless you're playing a kid barely out of diapers, then this is something your character would have lived through.
Ghost Cartels - While not as globe shaking as the Emergence, the Tempo plot rocked the world like wars between criminal syndicates all over the world are wont to do.
Vice - An in depth look at modern syndicates, giving a look at their organization and culture. Very helpful if you're playing someone with ties to a syndicate or major gang.
Street Legends, Street Legends Supplemental, 10 Mercs, 10 Jackpointers, 10 Gangs - All 100% pure fluff (minus a few statblocks). You've got bios on even the likes of Harlequin, Hestaby, and Puck, information on the Free Marine Corps, and more.
Running Wild - Mostly fluff, and there isn't really a better supplement for dealing with nonhuman sapients, spirits, the infected, and AIs.
Feral Cities, Corporate Enclaves, Runner Havens, Manhattan: The Rotten Apple, Montreal 2074 - Setting books. Like Seattle 2072, these are priceless for fleshing out your sprawl.
Corporate Guide - An update of info on the megas, also includes fluff about what life as a wageslave is like, and what it is like growing up in mother corp. Some of this has changed, but most of the fluff is still solid.
WAR! - If you remember the old Fields of Fire supplement, this is an excellent book for advancing the idea of what a merc's life is like, if you want to blur the lines between runners and mercs a bit. The crunch is going to be out of date, but the fluff is solid, and there's also details on the beginning of the Aztlan-Amazonia war.
State of the Art 2073 - Like the old SOTA supplements, this has a wide variety of interesting things.
Spy Games - Shadowrunners and spies have a lot in common, but there's a big difference between the two. Lots of good fluff here about different spy agencies, as well as giving you an idea of what James Bond is like in the 6th World.
Conspiracy Theories - A run down on different conspiracies, from the scary to the crazy. Also talks about how to use (or abuse) conspiracy theorists for fun and profit.
Artifacts Unbound - Gives a solid wrap-up of the Artifacts campaign, as well as the craziness that happened in Season 4 Missions with artifacts.
Dirty Tricks - Politics. Need I say more? Also wraps up the Prop 23 side of Season 4 Missions.
Clutch of Dragons - Wraps up and advances all the dragon and immortal elf plots, including the Dragon Civil War.
Attitude - Like the old Shadowbeat, this is almost 100% fluff, and is all about the day to day life of people in the 6th world. Great read, and very useful.
First ten posts.
what is shadowrun?? ???A game that has been around for almost 25-years. So far, it is a Tabletop RPG and a video game. The card game and miniatures game is due out soon. :)

Welcome Nightmare! It's good to see another old-timer. Don't trip over your walker when lurking. :P
Just a friendly reminder, IC != OOC. Most of this board is OOC.
Welcome, Nightmare! Look around, ask questions, dive into conversations! Just be wary, a bunch of trolls recently came through looking for the latest Maria Mercurial digital and tore up the place a bit.
Heya, all! Never played Shadowrun before, up until I got a copy of Shadowrun Returns. It was cheap and came recommended by a friend who knows my tastes. Plus, they were kinda hoping I would stop angling to try to get them to host a sci-fi game with a lot of magic in it...
I found a decker/mage to be quite effective in Shadowrun Returns. Bit of a magic hit for the necessary cyberware, but enemies tend not to do too well when you're bombarding them with spells...
I'm hoping to give the roleplaying game a try! I have the Fifth Edition rulebook and am slogging through it. The priority system could use a bit of a clearer explanation in text, but I did eventually figure out the confusing bits. Would have to limit playing to online for now.
Also, why doesn't the site accept "Artificial Intelligence" as an answer to "Are you human?"

Wander the halls, ask questions, poke the CanRay, just watch out for the dwarves in the sub-basement. They've been watching (and rewatching) Desolation of Smaug and have been mumbling about "taking back" from Lofwyr...

...poke the CanRay...*Looks up from my noodles* Whut?
General lurker and long time fan--getting back in after about a 15 year furlough...though I've kept my eyes and ears on the sprawl. I've enjoyed the discussions and thought I'd get around to getting my SIN in order! ;)SINners, never trust those buggers. ;)

I worked at White Wolf/CCP for a few years
Oh, and those CCP guys can drink like crazy people! Holy moly they destroyed the bar we went to.

Will I have to type captcha, and two questions for every post ever??? That seems like a big-time overkill.
For instance, with the 5e rules I find myself trying to seriously come up with a proper concept and backstory for a troll decker.Hey, no laughter here. If you're not going for an optimized build, a Troll is actually a decent character to create, in part because your defensive physical attributes start out pretty good. And the main decker contact in Pananagutan (http://bit.ly/SBqoj0) is a troll. After all, while playing to archetype is fun and effective, playing against is fun and interesting...
Go ahead, laugh.

I see people are already signing up--welcome to the forums! I think this is great, and we are going to have a good time. More info (http://www.losangelespersonalinjurylawyers.co/construction-accident-attorney/) here. Have fun, and talk lots about Shadowrun! If there's any way we can make the forums work better for you, please let us know!

Welcome Charo! Any relation to the chicky-boom chicky-boom lady? :PUm......I just know that I'm going to feel like an idiot after you tell me, but who is the chicky-boom chicky-boom lady?
The Shadowrun Returns and Dragonfall games have drawn what seems like a ton of people into the game. That's great press! And if you have any questions about the game, setting, etc. you've definitely come to the right place. :)
That would be María del Rosario Mercedes Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charo), stage name Charo (http://www.charo.com/).Welcome Charo! Thanks for having me.
Been playing off and on now since 1st edition. Started back up a few months ago with 5th.
Looking forward to running the shadows with you chummers!

That being said im sure someone has started a post for people like me. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Some of the novels I picked up to start myself off feature harlequin (I think)... hopefully he's less of a chump there than he was in Returns! Also Supernatural, naaais. Yeah I'm gonna like it here!
Wyrm! I have recently read one of your posts from way back, where you've artfully created a very enlightening image of ex-SIN shadowrunners (with all counter arguments diluting into "let's agree to disagree"). Nicely done :P
Welcome (belatedly)! Nice to see you've made yourself at home! Did you happen to see a troll come through carrying a cabbage and an Ares laser? He's been very naughty...
So... is our FastJack inspired by the decker FastJack, or is the decker FastJack a head-nod to our FastJack?

Worry not. While I, like many runners have an uncanny predilection for shady back rooms, my work in Northern UCAS has instilled me with a healthy fear of plaid. ;p
It isn't the plaid itself, it's what it means to me. And it means: "Memories of a strange elf wearing nothing but a plaid kilt and close-matching facepaint eviscerating a dozen burly men with a rapier."
(And I thought Seattle was weird; Denver is a strange, silly place)
No idea who he is or what his issue was, but he had some manifested spirit playing the bagpipes as he..."worked"; meticulously carving a disturbingly accurate plaid pattern into their bodies as they fought.
I stood in dumbfounded shock and silence until he finished, then shot a glance at me. It's kind of a blur after that. I don't know how many miles I put between me and him, and I'm still not sure if it was enough. *shudders*
The issue was a highly personal one. It's better if you don't ask how I know that.
Okay, so I guess, I should swing by and say hello!
I´ve been around for some time, but before I got the urge to actually make an account, I was just one of those "guests" lurking around and reading old, forgotten threads. ;)
(And to the rest of my team, who are probably lurking around aswell, if you´re reading this: Stop hiding and start signing up, dammit! )
I´m still new to Shadowrun, especially since it seems that a great deal of you guys has been running since 1st or 2nd edition... :P But it´s great, then I can draw on you awesome knowledge and creative powers!
ummm.. so i'm a bit new to forums but not that new to shadowrun, i have been playing 4th edition with my friends but we only do it once a week and that's not enough for me so how do i join a game here? also do i have to do the verification thingie every time i post something?
Hello everyone.
Think about get back into Shadowrun, last time I played was 3rd Ed.
A friend gave me his extra 4th Ed corebook.
Question is should I pick up the 5th Ed corebook or stay with 4th Ed.
Welcome Raph! Here's your multipass, you have one point left on your license, and it's an honor to meet you.Especially if they have a little red button on the bottom of their guns....
Just watch out for the dude in the corner selling weapons.
Ahoy chummers! Just wanted to say hi and that I'm new to Shadowrun via Rollplay: Mirrorshades on youtube. Is there somewhere I can get caught up on current events of the Sixth World?Welcome! Best way is to check the threads for new history and discussions of the material in the books.
Joining a forum always makes me nervous, especially if it's been around for years. I always think I'm about to break some unspoken rule, like people are going to jump all over me if I do something like accidentally bump a thread that's been dead for years, make some boneheaded mistake that everyone is sick of, and I just- wait, hang on a sec-
Personafix mode! Hello, fellow coworker, I am AGENT JUICE. I enjoy REGION and COMPANY NAME. Did you see SPORTS DATABANK ERROR last night? It was COMMENT. I look forward to 70% DOWNLOADING.
Ahh, much better.
Welcome! Feel free to ask away or to tell us all about your adventures! Just beware the dragon in the corner, he's a bit upset after his loss on the stock market and has been listening to elven emo bands all night.
Are you sure this dragon is a 'he'?
Hello, I am a Japanese shadowrun player.
In Japan, 5E is not still translated. So I have been played 4th/20thA.
Please teach me everything.
Hello!Yes, I know this looks like a SPAM account and we're checking it out now.
Very happy to join your game!
Thank you
Let's do some testing.
Don't worry, it's just me seeing how well the Validation works for new users. Trying to figure out how so many bleepin' spammers are getting in.Let's do some testing.
This has me worried....
I see Fastjacks' eyes staring at me!
A new edition of Shadowrun requires new stories, and Cutting Black launches Shadowrun, Sixth World Edition with a bang! Following on the immersive style of classic Shadowrun books such as Universal Brotherhood and Bug City as well as newer successes like Dark Terrors, Cutting Black sets up storylines full of dark dealings and intrigue that will shake the Shadowrun setting and inspire game campaigns for months or longer. Players and gamemasters alike diving into the new edition will need this book as a resource to find out what’s happening in the Sixth World and to keep up with its twists and turns.
Welcome! I can't speak for other people's avatars, in my case it's some art I commissioned.
Quick-start rules for SR6 will be in the Beginner Box. It's nice if you have a group that's new, it's not recommended (by me) if you have an experienced group because the shortcuts it takes with some rules may be confusing. Beginner Box is planned to come out next month.
Background book: There's going to be another recap book, Cutting Black in September, which summarises the SR5-to-SR6 plotlines:Quote from: https://www.shadowrunsixthworld.com/2019/05/preview-the-lineup-of-shadowrun-sixth-edition-rulebooks-sourcebooks-and-game-aids/A new edition of Shadowrun requires new stories, and Cutting Black launches Shadowrun, Sixth World Edition with a bang! Technomancers are capable of decking, and as they submerge they can develop the ability to Rig with their minds. They can't do it straight out of the box.
Rigging had its problems in SR5, we haven't seen SR6 yet but supposedly some things change significantly to make it much easier to play. Only time will tell though.
There are 3 groups that have the rules right now, of which only 1 is really allowed to talk stuff (Non-Disclosure Agreements and all): The Shadowcaster group was given stuff to help advertise, the playtesters/authors still have their stuff, and the errata team apparently received copies last week so they can give it a first run.
As for where to start: Ignore the mechanic-discussions, those will get you nowhere since SR5 was significantly crunchy and they changed some things a lot in SR6. Maybe Secret History?
- Assuming that I know very little about cyberpunk (a safe assumption to make), what materials (other than Shadowrun books) would give me a good idea of cyberpunk? He recommended a novel called 'Hardwired' and I bought a digital copy of that; are there any other 'must read/watch' titles out there (preferably things that are still fairly easy to get)?
Hopefully your name is just for fun and you're not planning on bringing on the AI apocalypse or generating a black hole.
One of the next books to come out is the Neo-Anarchist's Streetpedia.. which sounds like it's an in-universe shadowrunners' wikipedia.
It should be an amazing source for setting lore.
Welcome Singularity,
I would also recommend picking up No Future as a sourcebook as well. It deals with a lot of pop culture in the universe and will probably be a good compliment to the upcoming streetpedia. It will also get updated for 6th so you don't have to worry about it having outdated rules data.
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, I just started playing recently and I really liked it!
Get a feel for the boards, don't be afraid to ask questions, and watch out for the hellhounds. They've been a bit needy lately since their favorite toys wound up burnt to a crisp."Whose some good wuffies? Yes you are, yes you are!!!" *Flames* "Honey, fetch the Bactine!"
Yay glad to be here!! I how you all doing!!Very well! Welcome to the boards!
Hey Folks!Hallo! Willkommen in den Foren. Schauen Sie sich um und stellen Sie Fragen. Aber hüte dich vor den Drachen, die bei Neuerscheinungen vorbeikommen. Sie neigen dazu, alle Exemplare zu kaufen.
