Hello,
   New to shadowrun.  Reading through the 5e SRB.  I have a quick question.   If an enemy caster has summoned a spirit and you kill the caster does the spirit go back to from whence it came or does it stay and if it stays does it continue to try to complete its task?

It depends. The GM has leeway there (though should establish precedence for their players). Normally, they leave. If they really liked the summoner, they might try some revenge. And they may try to break free to become a Free Spirit too.
