Title: 6e Source Books
Post by: Jack Hooligan on <06-05-20/1502:16>
As I've mention in another thread, I'm gaming SR through Anarchy. Currently playing in the 2050s thru official adventures, but supplemented with content from the fantastic Sprawl Sites and Shadowbeat source books.

Though my first love is the chaotic 2050s, I also want to support the current writers and era, so am interested in also running some 'modern' SR games next. If I'm using Anarchy, what are the sourcebooks I need to get up to speed on and help me flesh out this era? I think No Future is the Shadowbeat equivalent, but is there something like Sprawl Sites? Do I need the 6e Core Book to get updated fluff or is there a better source?

The Neo-Anarchists' Streetpedia is a pure lore book set in the 2080s.

30 Nights and Cutting Black are books devoted to the current plotline, and light on rules.

And if you liked Shadowbeat, you'll probably also like No Future. It's basically an updated Shadowbeat for 2080s.

Can you further clarify the differences between The Neo-Anarchists' Streetpedia, 30 Nights, and Cutting Black?

Streetpedia is basically an encyclopedia that you can check for lots of subjects. 30 Nights is 30 adventures taking place in Toronto during its blackout, with additional info. Cutting Black is the bigger story covering the blackouts and other plotline plottwists.

Ah, so 30 Nights is a series of adventures. Cutting Black is a big book covering the results of the adventures in 30 nights and other things.

Streetpedia is background on a bunch of random things...does it overlap content with No Future?

No Future is organized like Shadowbeat.  It covers the same kinds of things: media, sports, entertainment

Streetpedia is as if someone printed out the in-universe Wikipedia.  It's articles are generally a couple of paragraphs each, and has a wide scope touching on everything from geopolitics to history to corporate celebrities.

A bit more the other way around.

You know how Shadowrun usually end their edition with a big major change (for example: Crash 2.0 at the end of 3rd Ed), well 6th edition started with 8 months of sheer craziness in the UCAS (That would be Cutting Black) with about 9 significant events occurring (with the Blackouts in multiple cities being one of them).

30 Nights look at the Blackout as it unfolds in the city of Toronto only. Some of the hints provided about what's going on are also reflected elsewhere but not all.

Is 30 Nights a fun set of adventures? Anyone play through it?

Basically 30 Nights is smack in the middle of the Cutting Black timeline. First there was Detroit, then the UCAS signed their own death warrant, then the wars and Blackouts started, then Free Seattle (not the adventure, which is earlier) happens, and now UCAS is in mop-up mode, licking its wounds.

30 Nights I haven't played but read through it. It's a really bad environment for Deckers and Riggers (though line of sight works). There's some nice NPCs and plots going on.

I'm currently reading it (night 16 of 30) and so far the NPC cast and the range of place you are visiting are interesting (I travelled a few time to Toronto which is only like 400-500km from my hometown).

I do feel though that, unless your team are hooders or Toronto residents (with or without dependant) you need to work a bit harder to give them a proper motivation to stay and helprather than just walking away.

I think 30 Nights is better for 'random people caught in the blackout' than for the average group of runners.  On that basis I'd say it is fairly average (I use about a third almost as written, customize about a third, and the last third use as inspiration at best).  If I was dealing with proper runners rather than a Naga adept pop star I think it would be hard to keep the group in bounds.

As for modern resources,  I hope you are aware of Chicago Chaos, which is an Anarchy supplement (set in the late 2070s).

There are some other late 5th edition books that might be of interest to you (mostly setting type books): The Complete Trog, and Better Than Bad in particular.

My plan is to have the player be member of a Toronto Street Gang defending their turf (and the people living there). It makes it a whole lot easier and explain more easily why they just don't walk away.

Makes sense to me.  Especially given the scale of the pay.
