So I was contemplating knowledge skills and their integration recently. And I was wondering about whether or not you can default on a knowledge skill. My assumption is yes, but it's always a vague version (say Politics as opposed to New England UCAS Politics).

But there's nothing supporting this that I can find; what ya'll do with similar situations?

I could have sworn you could. Just roll logic or intuition -1. Its not like shadowrunners are completely oblivious to the entire world, they should know some basics.

Like you street sam might have crap for logic, but he should have picked up some street knowledge of how magic works.  Roll int -1, get zero hit, and he knows everything hollywood has been selling him on the trids.

You can indeed default on knowledge skills, unless the character in question has the flaw "uneducated" in which case it cannot default on professional and academic knowledge skills.
