Whoa, this is about Kazuma, that Technomancer from Spells and Chrome? Hm...I wonder if a brain fried Dirk Montgomery is in this novel too. Well, only one way to find out. $8.99 ain't that much,

There is a Dirk wearing an off the rack Dick Tracy avatar in the beginning so maybe, or it might be someone else.....
Do you believe in a greater WIRELESS, an Invisible(WiFi) All Seeing(detecting those connected- at least if within 100'), All Knowing(all online data) Presence that we can draw upon for Wisdom(downloads & updates), Strength (wifi boni) and Comfort (porn) or do you turn your back on it  (Go Offline)?

I'm midway through Dark Resonance and I'm enjoying it.

I like the fact that it features some Jackpoint characters and ties with the ongoing plots of the Jackpoint postings (especially the Horizon / Technomancer metaplot) and even the unresolved "Caliban" short story from Spells & Chrome. I like how there are actually several groups of characters competing for the same McGuffin, and apart from the obvious bad guys most of them are likable, even if they are hindering the main protagonists.

On the down side I'm sometimes a bit lost with all the technomancer lingo and technobabble, and I had to look what BOLOs means on the Internet as I was unfamiliar with that acronym ^^' Also some character names are a bit over the top but that goes with the territory I guess (although "Myrdinn Risen" did feel a bit too much, especially if it's supposed to be a "real" name and not some sort of alias -- but I guess in SR you can never be sure).

In any case, a SR novel that actually advances and enriches the current metaplots of the tabletop game is a good thing in my opinion, and having Dirk Montgomery (even if it's only a small cameo) and NetCat and Slamm-O! and a few others in the same book is a great way to bring together all eras of Shadowrun.

Hopefully the second half will only get better :)

Now that I've finished it, here's my review of the book (in French) :)
All in all it was pretty good  ;)

Overall I liked it, but it did have a few rough spots.

The metaplots it taps are certainly something to consider and I do wonder how canon the book is as some of the actions/choices taken here will definitely have some long term effects.

I have a small comment on Runner Ethics HERE.
Yes, Clockwork is a staple of the environment, but in the circumstances given by the book how he is still breathing does elude me.

Now for an opposing view to our own there is THIS.
While more than a little bit scathing, I do recommend reading their version of a spoiler as it really is a humorous synopsis of the book.
If George Carlin did Cliff Notes of a SR novel, I would imagine it might read similarly.

Well to be honest none of the Shadowrun novels were great literature. Even the best ones (the Nigel Findley ones for instance) are deeply flawed. But they can still be enjoyed for what they are.

That being said, sometimes I feel like some people on Internet boards see liking anything as a form of weakness, and will go to great lengths to show their dislike of everything :)

It's a great book. I buy all the new novels and enjoy them all a lot. I don't like to rank the books in terms of quality but I will say that they are all very good (although I haven't gotten to red some yet).
