Mages can run out of juice, or just get too tired to cast any more combat spells. Or, the ones that use support spells mainly. There are always reasons for a mage to at least have a hold-out.

Since we mostly play in cities, I always have every character come with at least an actioneer business suit, or something even more fancy (Berwick, Zoé, ...) depending.  That way you can also get into the more fancy type of restaurant or club should the meet with Mr. J be held there.

I agree with your list, but unless your a drone rigger, hacker, ect.  The airwave might be a little too high end.  A metalink, or a CMT clip comlink, with a 200 to 300 nuyen OS works just fine if your not a techie.

DoubleTap, the only people who can afford to skimp on matrix gear are magic types that use little to no AR or wireless gear at all. Everyone else should get at least a decent commlink and OS (stats at 3+), and get some decent programs (the packages in SR4A and Unwired work for most people). Otherwise, you're just asking to be hacked.
