Well, seeing how, after 14 years of developement time, piranha games actually DID release Duke Nukem 4 Ever, there IS a bit of hope that they will do the same for MW5 . .
And if it's the UE3 Engine, then who cares how bad it is to begin with, people will mod it to hell and back anyway . .

True enough.  And a bad engine does not mean a bad game.  Look at Fallout 3 and New Vegas.  Also modded to hell and back!

That game there is an example of why eventually you have to stop trying for perfection in a game and just finish the damn thing.

The employees at 3D Realms would joke that they really needed to stop George Broussard from playing any other video games. Which is actually not entirely a joke - he'd see some new feature in a game and insist on ripping up months of development work to implement it in DNF. They went through countless graphics engines because he always wanted "the best". This of course went on for 14 years.
