So, been experimenting a bit on my ridiculous Ingrams Akimbo build, and I have come to the conclusion that there seems to be a hard ceiling of RC6 on weapons.

Can't seem to stack it any higher than that, though there may be unique instances of weapons with build in mods that somehow exceed it.

Is this common knowledge, that I'm just grokking to? Or are there ways to get more than that while still obeying AR148?

Don't forget to factor in the recoil compensation from high strength.

Assuming we're dealing with an Automatics weapon of some kind:
  • Foregrip (1 mod slot): 1 RC
Auto-adjusting weight (4 mod slots) 1 RC on first burst, 2 total on the second, 2 on FA mode
  • Shock pad or stock (no slot): 1 RC
  • Gas Vent 3 (2 mod slots or Barrel mount): 3 RC
  • Personalized Grip (1 mod slot): 1 RC
Electronic firing (2 mod slots): 1 RC
  • Heavy Barrel (3 mod slots): 1 RC on Full Bursts
So if you go with auto-adjusting weight, stock/shock pad, Gas Vent 3 accessory, and Personalized Grip or Electronic Firing, you've got 7 RC as long as you fire 2 bursts or a big one, with 5 or 6 mod slots and the barrel mount used. The Ares Alpha assault rifle and FN P93 Praetor SMG, however, come with 2 respectively 1 recoil compensation from special chambering mechanisms, so the Ares Alpha can get up to RC9, and the Praetor up to RC8, without using a bipod or tripod. However, both weapons are Forbidden.
There's also the Ingram SuperMach 100, which comes with 3 points of Recoil Compensation but lacks a Barrel mount, meaning a Gas Vent has to come as a modification: however, Foregrip + Folding Stock (included) + Gas Vent 3 means it too can get up to RC8, although it has a lower base damage.

And like SlowDeck states, there's also an optional rule about getting recoil compensation from high Strength somewhere in SR4A.

That's the in-gun recoil comp.

For your otherwise undefined "akimbo" build, there is always the cyberlimb + Cyberarm Gyromount option.  That's another 3 points of recoil for each arm/gun.  Combine that with a high Strength, and you can get some more recoil too, thanks to the optional strength/recoil rules the other people mentioned.

Understood, but that isn't a weapon modification.

You're still hitting RC 6 (7), with special exceptions for certain weapons, as I mentioned. That's basically the unwritten ceiling that I'm finding, as well. I'll give those specific weapons a 2nd look.

The Ingrams Akimbo Build is over on the Character forums.

Gyro mounts don't stack with most weapon modifications, per AR 148.

"RC6" and "RC 6 (7)" are not the same thing, though.

And alas, for Akimbo-style shooting, if your SL allows the foregrip to add to your RC, he has probably just looked at the numbers without thinking about the how and why. Foregrips give RC because you have a second comfortable and solid grip on the weapon, to manage recoil easier. So foregrips wont help when firing your guns onehanded.
