The first AR contact lens has beenc reated in Belgium, actually, it was just in the paper today; a transcript from "Metro":
First lcd-screen in contact lens
The university of Gent and the interuniversitary micro-electronica centre Imec have created the first contact lens with inbuilt LCD-screen. The device's primary functions are medical and cosmetical in nature, although eventually reading your mails or finding your way through a GPS linked to the device will also be possible.
The lans can exist out of only one pixel and thus function like sunglasses, but the researchers want to fit as many pixels in as possible. Like this, they could improve the sight of the patient, or change the colour of the iris. In the long term, the researchers think they'll be able to link the device up to your smartphone or tablet, allowing you to read your messages, amongst other stuff.
Belgium is awesome + Image Link achieved, bitches! Smartphones are a bit like commlinks, so we're moving along nicely.
