Art preview from Stolen Souls on Tumblr:

Seems a little dark (might just be my iPad), but nice. Wonder if this is an indication that the book will be published in color? Sure hope so  ;D

...Soooo they have enough on the budget to make all of their releases in full color...but NOT enough to afford hiring more full-time employees?

Full-time employees are far more expensive than art commissions and free-lancers - so yeah, they can afford the one but not the other.

Tell me a job that an FTE can perform that a contractor can't.

Do you ever make a post that isn't bashing the hell out of Catalyst for something?

...and that was ALL I needed to know. I only bring this up because other freelancers have said time and time again that it would be too costly to make all the releases full-color...yet now come Fifth, it's apparently not an issue anymore.

I was hoping dedicated oversight and communication between the other freelancers. Because I still continue to get the impression when several people are working on the same product, there seems to be very little consistency between those particular parts.

I would hope that you're confusing me with someone else. I'm not exactly That Guy that's been dropping insults as CGL every chance I get just cause I can.

The "too costly" about making the books full color was in regards to what price Catalyst would be asking us customers to pay, at least that is how I always understood the various conversations.

You can actually see exactly what full color does to the cost of a book: Unwired and Run & Gun have similar page counts (R&G has ~8 more pages, which is not significant to pricing), and their respective MSRP are $34.99 and $49.99 - a significant factor in the difference being the cost of color printing vs. black & white printing.

Catalyst seems to be following The Onyx Path, however, and is now providing both a high-quality "standard" version of their books and a "deluxe" version as well - which I hope they keep doing, even though I am not sure that I will be able to manage fitting all the "deluxe" books into my budget.

Yes, I think I've confused you with someone else.  My apologies.   :-X

Well now I'm curious as to what changed that decided to make them go full-blast with making all of their releases colored when they previously didn't want to. And this probably isn't going to help the accusations of CGL being more money-grubbing.

(which BTW, is also what's preventing me from buying R&G: $24.99 for a PDF is too rich for my blood, especially a book that's half as long as the Core book, yet the Core book PDF is $5 cheaper, and with all the editing errors. Oi)

The industry has, as a whole, switched to full color hardbacks for core books. Those are the books that catch people's attention, after all.

As for why the corebook is $5 cheaper then then Run and Gun in PDF? Loss leader. Also, the corebook is going to be purchased
by just about everyone, so it can have its cost spread out more then supplemental books that are only going to be purchased by
GMs and specialists(and shared around the table).

Just FYI, but it's not like we've never released color products.  Look at Street Legends, for instance.  It's kind of a tradition to always toss out a full-color product or two a year, it doesn't mean the budget is there (for gamers) to always pay $10-$15 more per product, to make up for the higher printing costs, etc, etc.

So, yeah.  Some stuff's full color, some stuff's not, and that's nothing super new.

So, any thoughts on when and how we might see Stolen Souls? Inquiring minds (heh) wants to know more about Sybil already!
