THE CITY

Runners die in this greed encrusted City.
Isn’t this the city of Opportunity?
Yes, but it comes with a price.
Its’ a city Bent on Notoriety, without any effort.
Neon Signs Promising So much without a clue or a care in the world.
There are no Dreams here, only the stains of failed enterprise.
It’s a city that can only be seen in reruns to avoid the vomit of current culture.
It’s a city Immortalized with its polished corporation covering the wicked carnage.
But you’ve seen the wizard behind that curtain.
There are no ruby slippers here.

It’s a City where Credsticks and Nuyen fall from the sky.
All you need to do is to open your hands and your eyes.
Like David, Runners fight the Goliath of the night
In Offices, Parking lots, and by firefights.
Corporations play games here you cannot fathom.

But you ended up here anyway.
You came, riding on the train of dreams and promises.
Only to be derailed by reality.
Like a fart in the face, it finally dawns on you.
“Nothing is guaranteed”
You are a part of the great divide, the Corp or the runner.
Now you’re a country away, without a job for pay.
And your comlink has been jammed from calling home.

Welcome to a landscape, without any mercy.
This city is now the home to your failed career.
It’s a nightmarish biography written without your consent.
The Deeds from the past are treated like open sores of infected accomplishments.
Nothing matters what you did, only who you did it with.
And half of them breathe lies with every breath.
You must be a gambler, because you are here.
But luck left you at the altar, holding a bouquet of fear.
And there is no way home anymore.

I hope the city saves you from yourself.
Without your Run there is nothing else.
Jobs pay so little and cost you so, so much.
Day by day Runners die away.
in the search for just a little bit of luck.

It’s a promise, broken by debt
A secret that can’t be kept
And I have lived here all my damn life
Welcome to Detroit 2072,
The City were runners die

Excellent lampshading of the dark reality of Shadowrun sprawls!

From "But you ended up here anyway." to "Like a fart in the face, it finally dawns on you. "

Kind of awkward phrasing in that section, if you ask me.

Basically you came here thinking it was gonna be easy city for work and filled with the kinda jobs you dream about (big money little opposition etc), only to realize that  you were mistaken and quite the opposite, your in a run for your life.

this is the intro to what will be a series of prime runner (400pt + 150 Karma) runs in Detroit, all of which set up contacts and clues for the finale which will (i hope if i can pull it off right) be a Noir Murder Mystery taking into effect all of the clues gained over the course of the series.
