The Ultimate Contact List

We did this on Shadowland 6 with limited success, but I think it would be useful for GMs to have hereabouts.  That said, what we're looking for is more than just 'Fixer, Skill, Blah' -- name, personality, something different about him/her/it.  This is (or should be) almost pure flavor text.  Their name, their type (awakened paramedic, whatever), how they can be used, whether or not they are 'active' (by which we mean, if push came to shove, would they pick up a gun or a fireball and join in the fight next to your PC), their Connection rating, and their location -- Sprawl at least, more specific if you want.

  • Name: Mr. Cleaner
  • Type: Fixer (Armorer)
  • Use: Quick crime scene clean-up, clothing and armor services
  • Active: Limited Yes
  • Connection: Group: 3, Membership +2 (50-60 members), Area of Influence +2 (Sprawl)
  • Max Starting Loyalty:  2
  • Specialties:  Crime Scene Techniques, Cleaning, Fashion, Body Armor
  • Location: Seattle, Denver, New Orleans
  • Notes: "Mr. Cleaner" is a shadow operation.  For a (fairly steep, up-front, non-refundable) price, they will clean up the scene of your murder or kidnapping -- though not if there's security there by the time they get there.  Very reliable.  The majority of their business, however, comes from renting clothing and armor to people Just Like You.  With a warehouse in each sprawl full of stylish and not-so-stylish clothing, they can fit anyone from a pixie to a giant in up-to-the-hour fashion or body armor -- or both -- for a third-party escrow deposit of 100% plus escrow costs (Hong Bros. is a favorite shadow bank) and a daily charge of 10% of the clothing's value.  Beats having to buy a zillion different outfits to fit into every bloody corp you want to slip into.

  • Name: Hong Bros. Financial Services
  • Type: Shadow banking
  • Use: Escrow, shadow trading, etc.
  • Active: No
  • Connection: 4, +1 Matrix Presence
  • Max Starting Loyalty:  1
  • Specialties:  Finance, Corporate Finances, Brokerage Services, ID Establishment
  • Location: Matrix (Macao)
  • Notes: Hong Brothers Financial Services is a secure Matrix-based shadow bank.  In exchange for 10% of the amount to be held in escrow, Hong Bros. guarantees payment or refund of deposited funds, as appropriate. They also handle arm's-length investments and the like, not unlike Brokerage X.  They are also testing the waters of credential forging, but as yet do not have a strong enough network of contacts and hackers to produce anything higher than level 2.  Members only; introductions can be made via brokerage / escrow use between members (such as Mr. Cleaner) and prospective clients (the runners), with a minimum of 10 such uses required before an individual may apply for membership.  A minimum deposit of 10,000¥ is required of all independent members, which will be invested for the new client.

I'd have to search for it, but I had a word document that had a listing of all the contacts seen in books.  At least, I think that's what it is.

Found it somewhere awhile back and saved it.  That was...  Three computers ago.  It's just the type of contact, but it's a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG list!

Interesting.  I am working on a project for my SR fansite and it is causing my to go through all the books cross-referencing some key intel.  In doing this, I am constantly stumbling over characters in the game world and have been thinking to try and compile the "People of the Sixth World" listing of all the contacts and people noted.  A daunting task, I digress...

I think the 'Active' attribute is an interesting one.  What about also noting their core attributes and special equipment, modifications, weapons and such - or do you see that info in 'Notes'?  ...or do you this list as a more abstract contacts list?  To flesh the contact out, would you want to include a 'Background' entry to allow the GM to give a little more depth to the rationale and history of the contact?

Always a good thing to have, though.

  • Name: Brutus
  • Type: Mechanic
  • Use: Vehicular modifications
  • Active: No
  • Connection: 3
  • Max Starting Loyalty:  4
  • Specialties:  Rigging, Vehicular Modifications, Cascade Ork, Ork Underground, Metroplex Boundaries
  • Location: 410 MegaTwin Drive-In Theatres, Auburn, Seattle
  • Notes: Brutus, an ork, used to smuggle between Seattle and the Cascade Ork back in the late '40s, early '50s.  He got enough to buy an old drive-in movie theatre, refurbish the back-to-back screens, and re-grade- and -pave the 2km long racing trench that loops around the perimeter.  The 410 MegaTwin draws a large number of non-shadowrunning vehicle modders who like to show off their stuff, and it is recognized neutral ground for a number of local Seattle gangs and go-gangs.  Rumor has it that Brutus keeps the peace by way of a heavily-armed crawler drone sitting on the top of the big screens, but nobody's managed to spot it.  The 410 MegaTwin -- within the base of the big screens -- houses a highly-illegal shop for vehicular mods, where riggers like to get together while the wannabes gather outside.
And yes, the 410 MegaTwin shows classic flatscreen vids, just like the old drive-in theaters.

I'd wait for CanRay to turn up his copy first.  Then perhaps reference FastJack's list of ShadowLand and JackPoint posters.

To me, the 'abstract' is the numbers.  'Fixer (specialized)' or 'Armorer', perhaps -- and the GM uses THOSE stats, perhaps with a modification suggested by the Notes, for the crunchy bits for the contact.  This project is about the oil, not about the BCBs; if you want to write up the rationale and history of the contact, put in their attributes, equipments, mods, weapons, you'd probably be better off giving them their own thread, if it's that in-depth.

I'd rather not have more than a couple of phrases for Use; anything more elaborate can go into Notes, but it should still come in under 10 lines, max.  Look at what I've already thrown up there, just for reference, and I'm sure you can go 'okay, yeah, Hong Bros. would have some financial skills at 5-6, and their inner financial matrix would be seriously nasty to have to hack ...'  Or 'so Brutus used to smuggle -- maybe he has a t-bird stuffed away somewhere he could haul out if someone really went to town on his retirement 'home'...'

I understand.  Makes sense.

Also, doing a massive list of contacts is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down my list of things to do.  Regardless, I am interested to see what people turn up with.

Think of this as having ready-made details for your players or GM about the contacts they/you pick.  Think of these as slightly-more-complex versions of the Season 4 Contacts -- though I suppose we could add in 'Max Starting Loyalty' and 'Specialties' the way they do.  Anyhow, it's so you can say:

"You have a fixer?  Okay, here's Six -- kind of arrogant, hates pissant poke-your-nose-in people, has a faint New Jersey accent, works in Downtown Seattle.  Connection level 4."

Or you can say:

"You have a fixer?  Okay, here's MacCallister -- he's an ork ex-decker/hacker, a little gruff, a little pushy, feels very strongly about the Ork Underground becoming an official district -- got a lot of contacts down there.  Connection level 5."

Etc. etc.

Those are archetypes; hell, I have that same list from the old NSRCG character generator, sorted into categories and more.  General archetypes are not what we're looking for, however.  The archetype, in this case, would go into the Type field.

What we want are specific examples -- names, quirks, areas of operation, whether they'll gear up and go into the field.  Is the team street samurai's fixer Pluto a low-level fixer (Connection 3) or a high-level (Connection 5)??    Is the corp secretary the mage dating working for some warehouse manager at Evo (Connection 2) or is she working for an up-and-coming middle-manager at the local HQ (Connection 4)?

Too often players -- and GMs!! -- just give archetype 'I call my 5/5 fixer' without getting into what it means.  I mean for this resource to help players and GMs be able to go 'here, this is Brutus, he's my Mechanic'.  And then instead of making it 'so it takes three weeks for your car to get upgraded', the rigger can go have fun, and hey, maybe the rest of the group will discover a new neat place to hang out too.

Etc. etc.

Here are a few contacts based out of Tacoma in Seattle.

  • Name:Larry Bale
  • Type:Fixer(Armorer)
  • Use:Acquisition of Ammunition, Arms, and Armor
  • Active:No
  • Connection:1-4 (At Character Creation)
  • Max Starting Loyalty:4
  • Specialties:SotA and/or Bulk Equipment
  • Location:Tacoma Docks, Seattle
  • Notes:Russian Human – Vory Arms Dealer
Larry is an arms dealer with Russian ties that operates right off the docks. His knowledge on firearms is second to no one. He has access to a workshop within twenty four hours travel of Seattle and a facility in Russia if he needs it.

Larry is a very brutal man and mixed with his general paranoia this makes him very dangerous when angered. He always keeps at least three bodyguards with him at meets, usually Russian orks armed with an assortment of SMGs and ARs. Meets always take place where he specifies and in a location that favors him if the deal goes south. He prefers the docks where he can make an easy getaway in a speedboat.

Outside of the biz, Larry is a Combat Biking fan. He loves the blood and violence of the sport. His favorite team is the Renton Renders.

Special Note:  Larry Bale is naturally paranoid. As a contact, his connection rating cannot be higher than his loyalty rating. Larry bale cannot be taken at a loyalty higher than 4 at character creation. Larry is an international level arms dealer, but few people are trusted enough for him to go out of his way for.
  • Name:Jerry Bale
  • Type:Fixer(Organlegger)
  • Use:Acquisition/Disposal of Bodyparts and Augmentations
  • Active:No
  • Connection:1-4(At Character Creation)
  • Max Starting Loyalty:4
  • Specialties:Body Disposal, Second Hand Ware, Custom Ware
  • Location:Tacoma Docks, Seattle
  • Notes:Russian Human – Vory Implant Dealer
Jerry’s trade is the transferring of cyberware and bioware and he does a damn good job at it. He doesn’t have many qualms about cutting it out if he needs to and he never asks questions about where it came from. The only time he refuses a body is if it’s a friend or a member of the Russian Mob.

Jerry is much more laid back than his brother Larry, but even more detached from his humanity. He enjoys watching animals feed and one of his pass times is to watch the sharks after he chums all the evidence of his “harvesting”. He always sets the locations for meets because his brother insists on it, and usually Larry and his bodyguards provide protections for the meets.

Jerry’s other interests are also very different from Larry’s. He enjoys fine food, fine wines and fine music. He likes to follow politics as well, but he always feels that life is better back home in Russia.

Note:  Jerry Bale has a naturally paranoid brother looking over his shoulder. As a contact, his connection rating cannot be higher than his loyalty rating. Larry bale cannot be taken at a loyalty higher than 4 at character creation. Like Larry, Jerry has the network to play on the international level, but his brother doesn’t see the advantage of trusting enough people for that level of operation.
  • Name:Cari Banks
  • Type:Magical Healer
  • Use:Emergency Care and Rehab
  • Active:No
  • Connection:2
  • Max Starting Loyalty:3
  • Specialties:Healing and Detoxification
  • Location:Tacoma, Seattle
  • Notes:Gnome – Snake Shaman
Cari is a Shaman that works at an organic healing center, “The White Moss”, in East Tacoma near the Fellingham Park. She works, lives, and meditates at the center and is almost always willing to treat the injured for the right “donation”. She is not particularly stubborn about price but insists that her work provide a little funding for the shelter.
  • Name:Billy “The Kid” Kidman
  • Type:Street Doc
  • Use:Emergency Medical Attention and Implantation Surgery
  • Active:No
  • Connection:2
  • Max Starting Loyalty:4
  • Specialties:Augment Implantation and Repair, Trauma Surgery
  • Location:Tacoma, Seattle
  • Notes:CAS Dwarf – Implant Surgeon/Street Doc
Billy is a cyber implant surgeon that operates out of “The Wounded Duck Trauma”, a small clinic in West Tacoma near the docks. Billy is an ace at implanting and can even patch up wounds fairly well and is known to offer extremely competitive prices. He also sells medical equipment and gear to those runners who are smart enough to ask for it.

Billy lives two blocks down from the clinic, and while he isn’t always happy about it, any runners who have his number will get serviced in the back room after hours with just one phone call. He has three nurses that are also on the “extracurricular” team and help out with the emergency situations, but you can expect to pay premium rates for such treatment.
  • Name:Johnny Marcone
  • Type:Fixer(General-Mob)
  • Use:Gear Aquisition and Mob Jobs
  • Active:No
  • Connection:5
  • Max Starting Loyalty:2 (4 Mob Made Men)

His network of contacts is truly staggering and he can get just about anything for the right price. He also deals with properties and owns over a dozen houses and apartments throughout the city as well as controlling several mob warehouses.
  • Name:Suzo
  • Type:2
  • Use:Tatoo work, drugs, and information
  • Active:No
  • Connection:2
  • Max Starting Loyalty:2 (4 for Yakuza Made Men)
  • Specialties:Street Drugs, Tatoo Work

  • Notes:Japanese Human – Yakuza Tattoo Artist and Drug Dealer
Suzo is a tattoo artist in North Tacoma at the “Zen Dragon” with ties to the Yakuza drug trade. His clients are usually Yakuza soldiers, but he has the occasional normal citizen wander into the shop as well. He lives in the low rent apartment above the shop and spends most nights watching old trideos and eating junk food.

Name: Archie
Occupation: Fixer, johnson.  Puts runners in contact with other people.
Description:  Middle age Male ork, tan skin, British accent .  Has no obviouse cybernetics.  Likes to ware nice suits, concealed body armor, and collects wrist watches.  Almost always have british para wings on the lapel of his suit.  He fits the average height for his metarace, and has a athletic build.  Smokes cigars, and had shrapnel scars on the left side of his face, and neck.

Bio:  Archibald , watson is a British born ork, after a brief time in the yardies, he joined the British royal army, and ended up in second para, and the SAS.  After leaving the service, in 2060 Archie moved the the eastern cost of north america.
He worked as street sam, for several teams.  Not just a gunner Archie is very good at planing, tactics, and B&E.
in the 2070's Archie moved up a couple notches and now mostly works as mid level fixer, and johnson.   Archie has been known to get a wild hair, and go on runs him self.
Archie has a good reputation in his dealings, and has not been known to screw over his runners.   He maintains a wide verity of contacts, and is good about getting gear, info,  fencing loot, or transportation, for a "finders fee".
If runners have one complaint about Archie, it that he expects results, and does not tolerate side jobs, when you work for him.  Meaning if you steal something on the job, that you weren't supposed to, he has tendency to get pissed off.  He also insist that any operations, are to be kept low key, and not blasted all over the news.  While he understands drek happens, purposely starting a fire fight with the locale swat team, is a sure way to never work for him again.    So leave the rocket launchers, and Heavy  machine guns at home kids.

I  use him as the first fixer my Players meet, and there first jobs normaly come through Archie.  Archie was one of my characters from 2nd, and 3rd Edition shadowrun. while he cant get some of the more exotic stuff he might know where you can.
always Double Tap.
I'm a engineer if I cant fix it I can damn sure break it. (SSG Brown 12B osut instructor)

  • Name: Mr. Jork
  • Type: Wealthy Patron
  • Use:Arms Dealing, Big Favours(don't waste his time if someone else could help you)
  • Active:Nope
  • Connection: 6
  • Max Starting Loyalty: 6 (and only 6, Mr. Jork very specifically chooses his proteges and does not associate with anyone else.)
  • Specialties: Helping out his proteges.
  • Location:Multiple Penthouses and outlets for his services in all major sprawls, no known permanent residence.
  • Notes: Mr. Jork, as he is known in the shadows, is a elderly human who runs a worldwide chain of dry cleaners known as Mr. Jork's Laundry (hence the shadow alias). These dry cleaners function efficiently and discreetly for all laundering needs (clothing and otherwise) but also operate as a worldwide market of arms. The weapons sold are always top quality and nigh untraceable but they are only sold to those who hold a favored client card. Mr Jork himself is an elusive man who is rarely seen in public but occasionally he takes an interest in a new shadowrunner, offering his patronage and all of the enormous favors which it carries, the one caveat is that he expects the runners to be as self sufficient as possible. Each of his protege's will of course receive one of his favored client cards allowing them access to the host of services offered at his dry cleaners. Beyond the client cards what favors Mr. Jork will or will not do is up to whether or not he deems the task lofty enough to require his support. If for example a runner needed to get into a highly exclusive club it is unlikely thatt Mr. Jork would bother to help them, believing that his proteges need to learn how to do things for themselves. If on the other hand the runner was trapped on an Island sinking into the north Atlantic Ocean due to accidentally releasing a incredibly powerful being, Mr Jork would likely let the runner, and the runners friends, catch a ride on his private jet as he escaped the island.
  • Appearance: A male human standing barley over five feet in height, balding with only wisps of white hair remaining, he has a face creased with wrinkles, albeit mostly in the form of smile line. He is often seen wearing a smoking jacket and has a almost hefner-esque air about him in both appearance and attitude.

Notes:  Rex is a "retired" UCAS Army Intelligence operative who specialized in data snatches, and matrix clean ups.  After 10 years in the Army he got out and went into business for himself.  Or at least that's what people think, in reality he serves a a source for totally deniable "assets" for the UCAS.  He still will set up runs that have nothing to do with the UCAS but when they need a clean operation he gets the job.  Rex is always on the hunt for new talent and knows that patience and a good street rep will get him access to the runners he may need when his masters call.
