That and Nemesis (the first one) were the movies we always saw before SR sessions 25+ years ago.

Yes, they are cyberpunk, but SR? No magic or dragons so ...

I'm not a fan of the magic, so I probably tend to overlook it. But JM has all the rest, right down to Yakuza, greedy corps sitting on a cure for neural disease etc. It's exactly how I imagine the future setting.

Read the William Gibson Sprawl series. I swear Shadowrun is the nerd-baby of that, Lord of the Rings, and Walter John Williams "Hardwired".
Sprawl=Cities, street samurai, and matrix.
Rings=Dragons, magic, metaraces.
Hardwired=Riggers, and street samurai.

Johnny Mnemonic is actually from William Gibsons' Sprawl stuff so there ya go.

Gibson is listed as one of the inspirations for Shadowrun...
And sadly, Gibson hates SR with a passion.
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

Remember: You can't fix Stupid. But you can beat on it with a 2x4 until it smartens up! Or dies.

eh, so?   Lot's of writers aren't fans of what some of their fans get from their work.  But to paraphrase an old english teacher, it isn't what the author meant to put in, it is what the reader does pull out from it that matters.

I’m gonna buck the trend and recommend Strange Days, a 1995 film that me and the other six people who watched it really enjoyed.

I must be one of the six. That has been one of my go-to movies since it came out. I am planning on having my most recent group watch it soon.

My first SR character was loosely based on Johnny Mnemonic.
He was a skillwired face.
He could do anything as long as he had the chips and he had storage for more data should he need to get it to someone.

When someone asks me what Shadowrun is like I tell them to Watch Johnny Mnemonic and imagine it had wizards.
I paint the pavement.  It's what I do.  Check it out on Instagram, @Chalkarts
