Is it possible to use your sensors (such as ultrasound...) and have them simply overlay on your AR feed. How would you handle the roll? Do you NEED to make a sensor roll, or would it be device rating x 2 since it is passive? Or would it simply flag something is up to alert you to make a sensor check? Seems like a lot of things could be handled this way (if possible rule way). Would this be considered working in AR (and the -2 penalty to everyting else?), or since it is just an overlay (which crunch wise everyone is seeing the AR overlay from ads, clothing, iconography and what not...). In fact seems like a perfect task for an agent...

Tying this into matrix perception. I try to use my matrix perception as a sort of 'radar' when in a search and sneak situation, or potential ambush. Actively looking for signals and such (especially weapon icons). Yes, some enemies will go wireless, but most sill use a commlink or communication device...

How do you handle sensors? Must you actively use them and only them (override your normal senses?), can you overlay and augment (highlight)?

Actually, in most Shadowrun games, they typically have a Lifestyle so they're either Murder Hobos (Street/Squatter Level) or Murder Renters (Low+ level)

An AR would be fine. You would still need to roll though, either using your perception skill or electronic warfare limited by the rating of the Ultrasound. If the sensor is tied to a vehicle you could have that be rolling for you, though an agent couldn’t since that is for matrix actions only.
Matrix perception only informs you for icons within 100 meters, it doesn’t tell you exact distance, you need to use trace icon for that. While that action is a Data Processing action, it still require marks so an agent on your commlink wouldn’t be able to do that.
If Tom Brady’s a Spike Baby, what does that make Brees and Rodgers?

Which is why one SRM (I think it was a Toxic in the basement with a gang on the second floor?) the decker player hacked all enemy comms, traced their icons, and ARO-projected those on everyone's gear so they knew exactly where to get the first shot in. Entire gang wiped out in a Surprise Pass. My players tended to break the SRMs.
How am I not part of the forum?? O_O I am both active and angry!

AR windows are also a thing.  Perfect for putting a Remote Sensor feed in the corner of your vision.

Hmm I guess I thought you could use a 2 hits on your perception test to learn direction/distance in a crude way for 100 meters (as long as they are not a hacker, or have hacker doing overwatch...), not neccessarily down to the meter, but within a few meters and cast that as an overlay. Thereby using it to see when something is getting closer, towards you, or bunching up around a corner down the hallway, and you used trace icon for what was really meant for stuff beyond the 100 meters. Will have to re-evaluate a bit I guess. Thought I had found a way for my techno to be a little more pre-cog of ambushes and security patrols in game, vs having to sit there and have an entire mini-game boring the other players... I used this as a guide basically -
physical devices are also represented in the matrix. physically close devices to your cyberdeck or commlink are brighter and and you can see them more clearly.

I like to think that it work a bit like this:

if you are in augmented reality and see a person 10m infront of you, you will also see his corresponding wireless devices in the matrix 10m infront of you.

If the person enter a room and close his door you will no longer see him, but you will still see his corresponding wireless devices in the matrix.

Matrix Perception should be treated like Meat Perception.  It should be assumed that the Matrix specialist is watching for Hidden Icons, or tagging weapon or other dangerous Icons that aren't running silent for the team to see.

If there is an ambush (or whatever) that has some kind of Matrix Icons (Running Silent or otherwise) the GM should give the Matrix specialist a shot to spot the Icons.  Just like they'd give the Samurai a Perception check.  Otherwise the game bogs down in useless checks.  Just give the Player the befit of the doubt (that they're checking for stuff) and let them do what they do.
