Newbie question:

I never played this mod and I'm relatively new to the game and campaign. Is it possible to play this and gain karma if I already have 2-3 missions under my belt?

This event is designed to help you make a missions legal character, the majority of the time slot is set for character creation and rules explanation. With only a very short run to get a taste of the world. So There is nothing that says you can't but you might be bored during the character creation section.
