Backgroun
Thành "Duke" Nguyen is a low-life scum bucket who, somehow, managed to turn the dingy pho shop he inherited from his grandmother into an even dingier pho shop that is also one of the best places to buy black-market guns imported from his contacts in Cal Free State and Pueblo Corporate Council. Duke has recently started expanding his business from selling black-market guns to selling the services of the people who buy those guns as an aspiring Fixer. Duke has a quiet understanding with the local police and the local yakuza: he doesn't sell guns to anyone too dangerous, he doesn't sell any weapons that are too dangerous, and he makes sure all the right people get a taste of his profits... Which is a lot tastier than his pho.

Noh stumbled into Duke's shop one winter morning at about 4:00 AM, dressed in the costume and mask of the dancer character from the Noh play Dōjōji. Carrying a garrote, the severed head of a Seoulpa Ring hit-man, and with a 5.7mm ex-ex bullet in her head. It had been aimed directly at the back of her skull, in what Duke and anyone who'd ever seen a gangland trideo film, recognized as an execution... The bullet had, miraculously, been a dud round. It had also logged itself in her chipjack implant.

Duke called in some favors from some street docs he knew, got the mysterious girl patched up, and he promptly started making discrete calls to all the local yakuza. Duke wasn't an idiot, it was obvious that a girl who looked this pretty and was sporting this particular set of cyberware was a bunraku doll. But not just any "puppet" but one that was meant for assassination work in addition to her regular "services".   Despite all of his inquiries, no one came forward to claim her. Duke didn't have the stomach to just dump her back into a bunraku parlor and he certainly wasn't going to start one himself... On the other hand, a woman who could (with the right skillsofts) become the "perfect" Shadowrunner seemed like something he could market. But, damn, they were expensive as hell. Still, ya gotta start somewhere.

Noh, for her part, doesn't remember much about anything that happened to her during the past ten to twelve years... and she doesn't talk about what she does remember. She remembers her time in the bunraku parlor only in snippets and flashes, as brief lapses in-between on persona fix chip being deactivated and the next one installed. She sometimes thinks she remembers what her face looked like, but she can't quite remember if that was her face when she was a child or if its just the "default" that her implants reset themselves to.

Duke has promised her that, with is help, she'll be able to make enough money to buy anything she could ever want. She wants her life back... and that's going to take a lot of money.

Raising stealth from 1 to 2 would only cost you 10 karma, 0 to 2 would cost you 15 totally.
If Tom Brady’s a Spike Baby, what does that make Brees and Rodgers?

Ahh, indeed it does... I'll have to figure out something to spend that "extra" five karma on.

Hard to go wrong with an extra contact.
RPG mechanics exist to give structure and consistency to the game world, true, but at the end of the day, you’re fighting dragons with algebra and random number generators.

This is probably as great a Shadowrun truism as “Geek the Mage.” and “Conserve Ammo.”

On the other hand, for this particular character, having minimal contacts kind of fits the theme... 5 Karma could be flipped into ¥10,000 Resources. Which could get her a Rating 2 (or two Rating 1) ActiveSofts or one month of Silver Skillsoft Network access...

I really like the use of MBW to sub for skillwires, just one question on that though. How did you get around the 18 availability on MBW 2? Can't see anything obvious that would cover it?
Nostalgia 'aint what it used to be.

Oh. That’s simple... I forgot about the Availability cap. 😑

Well, guess I need to squeeze in the Restricted Gear Quality.

...nice concept.

Was going to question about her combat skills but then saw the Skilljack and MBW2  (which acts as Skllwires rating 4).

I thought about giving her some “real” combat skill, but honestly it felt kind of munchkin-y given her background concept. She’ll be maxed out at rank four ActiveSofts until she can save up enough Karma to learn an “real” close combat skill, but in the meantime she should do okay with nine dice in any weapon skill she can scrape together ¥20,000 to purchase a chip for.

...yeah, in NT I find it better to avoid combat if you can. Having some skill is always good, but as the setting is more Black Trenchcoat, having good social skills can be just as if not more useful and can also help in the CMPs.
