In my 5k challange I had one poster state that some of the "key gear" for an infiltrator costs over a K by itself.  Now this got me thinking, what are key gear items based on archtypes.  So I propose that we list some "key gear" for the different aarchtypes (note, no hard feelings about the comment, it just got me thinking)'

So, first the "key" archtypes;

Decker

Street Sam

Combat Mage

B&E/Inifiltrator

Rigger

Anything else?

Thoughts?

Deckers don't exist anymore! Unless you're playing with the 2050 throwback rules, at least.

I don't know if I would call all of those keys, alot seem variants on a theme to me (for instance, what is the difference of a gillete, street sam and a mercenary).  Don't get me wrong, I see differences, but I feel they tend to be similar enough to be grouped in one catagory.  My list did leave out "Face" however

A Gilette is (afaik) a dedicated Meleefighter (Knifes,Swords,  but also Clubs etc) often an Adept
A Streetsam is the All-Around Fighter
a Mercenery is the Heavy Weapons Guy, Explosive, Outdoor Military Type
ImO each are different enough to be a Key type
Same as Rigger Driver and Dronerigger

I think our differences are in what we mean by key archtypes.  I am not disputing there are differences, They're definatly are.  When I use the term I am speaking of a way to group characters in very broad catagories by what they do.  To use the above example all of them are "Combat Characters".  The vehicle rigger, hacker, Drone Rigger are all "Matrix Characters", etc...Are they different, of course, but you must admit that a gilette has more in comon with a Street Sam, than a decker...

for me, i see as key equipment (regardless of char type):

-ranged weapon (and side arm if combat centric char)
-melee weapon
-smoke/flashbangs

decent suit of armour (FFBA with non-conductivity)
-top layers interchangeable for needs (eg business suit for urban camo/meets, camo suit for stealthy work)

commlink with common use software
-dummy commlink with fake sin

basic B&E gear:
-autopicker
-maglock sequencer
-passkey

trauma patch

glasses
-image link
-image enhance
-alternate vision mode
-flare comp

Earbuds/headphones

microdrone for pocket recon/legwork
some form of personal transport
accompanying licenses.

If you have a middle lifestyle, don't bother buying common use programs for your 'legal' commlink. If it's attached to your SIN you use to pay the bills, you automatically get a bunch of free services from a Matrix Service Provider that cover all your needs!

But if you're looking at the key equipment the different roles may have completely different equipment needs.
A drone rigger versus a hacker has different requirements in terms of software and the hacker has much less need for drones...
So IMO it makes sense to consider them separately in this list.

good point, I concede.  I did want the list to only be about 6-8 types.  Maybe we should look at it via a different angle?
