So! I've been investigating the wacky world of the Rigger. It's interesting, but I'm kinda not sure where to start with putting a gear list together. What I have here is very much a dream list: the stuff I know I'd want. Can you guys give me any advice as to other stuff I might need, or stuff I could save on?

RCC 1: 43,000
Vulcan Liegelord RCC 66,000

Steel Lynx 25,000
Pop Up Weapon Mount: 700
Belt Feed System 500
Thunderstruck Gauss Rifle 26,000

Lucky you i've just been working on pimping out a rigger enemy for our team, copied below for your pleasure.
BTW I don't think you can mount that Gauss rifle to that drone's mount unless the mount is a big one.

Mostly drones operating autonomously suck (pilot + autosoft <capped at pilot rating> + smartsoft), typically throwing about 8 dice to hit.
So you have two options to make your drones combat effective, Swarm OR jump in.
The below loadout offers both Swarm and Jump in options, and they all load into a one combat effective package (no wasted drones/ vehicles waiting at home).

Modified dust-off (best one man VTOL craft).
Modified Bumblebee
Modified Nozquito 10 drone Swarm

The idea is that the rigger can fly in and drop off the Bumblebee to do the work while he retires to a safe distance.
The Bumblebee then offloads his 10 weaponized nozquitos via his drone rack and then attacks with the nozquito swarm and the bumblebee laying down supressive fire with his LMG.
If you have to take out a hard target the rigger can either jump into the bumblebee or shoot the SMG on his dustoff.
You still need autosofts for all of them (but you can avoid this cost for all the nozquitos with a SWARM program and your liegelord.

Total cost for all 12 drones = @$105,000 without autosofts.

Aeroquip Dustoff $33,850
Add rigger controls to the built in valkyrie module ;-)
I added a chin SMG mount and a drone rack big enough to hold a Bumblebee drone (see below).
CHASSIS: AEROQUIP DUSTOFF

Here's the 10 nozquitos that each mounts a machine pistol (had to downgrade the Nozquitos speed to make it work)
Those Machine pistols can also deliver suppressive fire, which could be a total PITA if you split a couple off of the swarm to lay down supressive fire while the rest geek the mage

Hey! Thanks for sharing!

I can definitely mount the rifle: the Lynx is the only way you can get a drone with a heavy mount at CharGen. If I can have the belt feeding and concealment is debatable, since the mount's standard on the drone, but that's fine to leave to the GM's interpretation.

Your picks seem... pretty mod heavy for drones. You did catch the mod rules in Rigger 5.0, right, that a drone is supposed to only take up to its body in mods unless you downgrade the body for bonus mod points? I haven't crunched the numbers too firmly but your guys seem really high at a glance.

Still, gotta give props: really fun flavourful idea for a Rigger. ;) It's the sort of setup that's memorable, that distinguishes a Runner as more than just another merc. With luck your PCs will learn to act like Nic Cage in the Wicker Man. ;)

My rough backstory here is an ex military rigger trying to go into Shadowrunning. So a Lynx and the Dustoff from her army days, some commercially available high quality camera drones for scouting and a car for the rest of the team. The C^3s aren't a traditional spy drone in that they're relatively large and mobile, but the stealth autosoft should help with that. They struck me as IC for a milrigger trying to buy a spy drone, rather than a tiny tiny toy thing, Closer to Dalmations

Maybe it's just me, but it seems ridiculous that you can fit a Standard Size Weapon Mount on a Microdrone.

Yup. And it still makes no sense to be able to mount an SMG on a microdrone. Y'know, a drone that's supposedly no bigger than your fist.

Not only ridiculous, I'm pretty sure that's flat impossible, even with Rigger 5. It gets one mod point to spend, and I can't see a way to raise that. A 'standard' mount, which is indeed what's needed for a SMG, takes three mod points on a drone.

It's possible per RAW, although I agree it's a bit nutso.
This is for an NPC so I'm not so concerned.

However for the record here's the dealio:

1). Reduce Speed from 3 to 2 freeing up a mod point.
2). Mount a Small Weapon Mount.
3). Add a Machine Pistol (NOT SMG, it won't fit).

Done.

You're talking about a drone the size of maybe a large dragonfly carrying a large loaded pistol.
IMO, that isn't "a bit nutso", it's "head-bashingly asinine".

Is there a weapon mod that reduces reach, or would one just break the weapon to reduce reach (requires training)?
Quote
If the weapon has Reach greater than 0, the character can damage the weapon by reducing its Reach by 1.

Either way, you could add shock rams to the list of silly "but it's raaaw!" mounted weapons. ::)

I still don't quite get how the drone swarm is possible. When I look at the Nozquito stats, all I see is Body 1, not Body 1(1), which is what it should have if a Mod Point is available. You need 2 Mod Points for a Small Weapons Mount and all you're getting with a Speed Downgrade is 1.

If it has no mod points, then it should say 1(0), not 1.

It has one mod point due to Body 1 and if you downgrade something (say speed) by 1 you get second mod point bringing the total to 2 permitting a small weapon mount to be added.

Having said that I think a good rule of thumb is to restrict drone weapon mount sizes to be equal to or less than body which would limit a nozquito to a mini-weapon mount (1 mod point) permitting light pistols or smaller which is a bit better than permitting you to attach a heavy pistol/ machine pistol to something the size of a "large dragonfly".

BTW below is an even more nutty drone build relying on multiple nested drones each with it's own drone rack:

In this arrangement the nesting works like this:

Northrup Wasp

Aeroquip Dustoff

Bumblebee

Ammo Drone

10 x Nozquitos

<phew>

You can put a rigger/ passenger in the Wasp and one in the Dustoff.

The Ammo Drone carries 3 x area jammers in lieu of ammo clips.

Typical tactics would be to deploy the Dustoff at long range and let it fly into medium range to deploy the Bumblebee while the Wasp stands back and hoses down the area with it's heavy MG and the Dustoff picks targets of opportunity with its Ingram SMG.

the Bumblebee deploys the Ammo Drone while hosing down the area with its LMG.

The Ammo Drone flys into medium/close range and starts jamming targets while dropping it's 3x area jammers around the battelspace to knock the enemy offline (jammers don't affect the deployer if set correctly).

Then it deploys the nozquito swarm to distract and attack targets with their tasers, strobes and audio.

This build costs @$300,000k and includes some items you can't get in chargen due to availability so you should review for suitability to your use.
