I’m interested in playing Shadowrun 6E,and have never played Shadowrun in any version before, although I’ve read some of the novels and they’re great.
The group had played 5 or 6 different RPGs,so no one really needs a “what is role playing?” article.

Should we start with the beginner box? I see it’s getting some bad reviews. I might just get the core book, but I’d need an introductory mission and probably pregen characters. I see one shot missions on the website but they’re for 3E. Are there short missions and/or pregen PCs available anywhere?

Beginner Box has some bad stats in spots (such as copy-pasting a defense spell description to fireball stat card), which people with core book can clarify. If you want to convert a 3E adventure, consider just throwing Professional Rating 0~2 mooks in (0 for riot rabble, 2 for gangers) from CRB as replacement. Beginner Box also has some ganger stats which you can use as baseline for doable opposition for non-optimised characters.

Mistakes aside, the Beginner Boxed Set is a decent place to start. There are a number of places where you can find what needs to be corrected and there is a fair amount of material you can strip out of it as Michael mentions to create your own scenario.

Having the pregenerated characters is nice as a starting point too.

With the new edition release, now is a good time to get in to SR 6e, especially if you don't have an "edition baggage" from playing before.

BUT, keep in mind, the new edition has just come out, so there is a fair bit of vitriol out there as the "old timers" are left behind. (And I could be one of them :P)

Take everything with a grain of salt, don't be afraid to ask questions! And don't get scared off by the snark (We rarely bite.. and when we do, the Mods usually swat pretty quickly with a newspaper... if they can find one. <If not, they use a hammer  :'(  > )
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

Remember: You can't fix Stupid. But you can beat on it with a 2x4 until it smartens up! Or dies.
