Title: Street Kid (Face)
Post by: prionic6 on <01-28-16/0921:30>
Hey,

I'd like some opinions on character I have been working at. I'm not sure about the set of knowledge skills and maybe I missed an adept power that I really should have? I decided against Automatics on the basis of Shotgungs being pretty cool, but also here, I'm not sure about it.

== Background ==
Oliver grew up in a orphanage. From the start of puberty, the catholic nuns were worried about his apparent strong sex drive. When a botched attempt at chemical castration left him sterile at just 13 years old, he decided to run and from then on lived in various squatter communities.

Seductress ("Lilith") started revealing herself to him, guiding him along the path of his inner magic. She taught him how to manipulate people to do the things he needed.

A semi-retired fixer noticed him and realized Oliver could be worth a lot. He taught him how to handle a gun, some martial arts and introduced him to the right people. After a few successful runs, the "sensei" was killed and Oliver found himself unable to work for a while. He had to borrow some money and is now looking for work to pay it back.

== Notes ==

- Initiate, Learn Attune Animal
- Pay back Debt
- Get Vashon Island: Ace of Coins or similar

How do you have a magic of 6?

Adept, magic priority B.

Took a quick glance, looks pretty good.  Animal empathy seems meh to me, what is the reasoning behind it?  Otherwise, looks solid.

I want to go for Attune Animal (need to Initiate for that) and I thought it might help me with the rolls there. Mostly for flavour and because I think it would be interesting to have "Bio-Drones" for snooping around.

Adept, magic priority B.

lol my bad. I misread B(3) to mean magic at 3 not 3 for Sum to 10.  :P

...are you sure you want this character messing with Kamakaze?  He has 8 dice to hit a threshold of 3 to avoid addiction with only 2 weeks before needing to make the test (Addiction Factor 9 which is subtracted from a base of 11 weeks).

I would suggest Jazz instead to get the +2 to initiative dice as it gives him three weeks before needing to make the test with a threshold of 2. If he goes two weeks without using it he doesn't have to make the test at all.  Jazz also adds +1 to Physical Limit and Reaction for the duration.

Better: I would look at shuffling some PPs around to get Improved Reflexes 2. A higher combat sense (at least 2) would be more helpful as well.

Also keep in mind that as an awakened character any powers that grant a die pool bonus will be negatively affected by Background count.  So in a BGC of say, 2 he would be taking a - 2 penalty to dice pools when using the following powers

Combat Sense, (Defence Pool)
Improved Ability: (Con Pool) ,
Animal Empathy (Animal Handling Pool)
Cool Resolve (All Influence Skill Pools)
Authoritative Tone (All Influence Skill Pools when speaking)

As Initiative is not a dice pool he would not lose initiative dice, but take a -2 to the final initiative result.

I have an adept in the Chicago Missions and believe me BGC isn't fun as most of the CZ area has a base BGC of 2 and it goes up from there in various "hotspots".  The worst she encountered was in Shattergraves (the site of the old Sears Tower) where the BGC was so powerful it even shut down her force 5 weapon focus. Good she had decent gun and athletic skills that were not augmented by her adept powers.

No idea where the dose of Kamikaze is coming from, I probably misclicked in Chummer... I was planning of maybe using some Cram here and there but will probably switch that to Jazz. The addiction rules are a mess btw... I don't think I understand them fully after reading three or four times.

I'll keep BGC in mind... But it only applies once per test, right? So on a Con test I would have IA, CR and AT all (potentially) apply and then subtract the BGC only once. And if it's still bigger than my total modifier, I could switch the powers off. I took the one level Combat Sense mostly for the guaranteed perception check in a surprise situation.

I will either swap Animal Empathy and Linguistics for a level in Improved Reflexes or take it with my next PP. I'm not trying to be the best fighter ever, though. It's more of a side specialty. Improved Reflexes is pretty expensive.

Thanks a lot for your input!

Really not sure if Hobo With A Shotgun fits this concept.  Hard to be a seducer dressed in the latest fashions when you are dirty and smelly from sleeping in an abandoned air-raid shelter.  I am also a bit dubious about making Reaction a dump stat.  I would maybe at least take a point each from Strength and Logic to shore it up a bit - passive dodging and initiative are both important.

...it lasts as long as the character is in the background count.  Advice, don't play this character in the Chicago Missions or he'll be dealing with a minimum of -2 to all adept powers.

Switching off powers is a free action so your danger sense would still be useful for getting the perception test.  After that ,turn it off otherwise your defence will suffer a negative penalty equal to the strength of the BGC.

KK, this character isn't Mission's legal so why worry about Chicago CZ.

Well, a higher STR is pretty handy to have with the Called Shot (Disarm) technique... And LOG give points for knowledge skills. I figured that REA is one of the easiest attributes to get bonuses for.

Regarding the squatter lifestyle, I guess other squatters need love, too. I wouldn't be surprised if there was ample opportunity to be a seducer there. And if you live the lifestyle by choice, it doesn't mean you can't take a shower before going on a job, right? I like to take negative qualities that are a challenge for the specific character, not those that are easily dismissed.

You have 41 skill points beside the Stealth SG %... where did the karma come from for the extra 5?

Magic B (Adept: Magic 6, one Rating 4 Active skill) + 2 Karma for Arcana 1

I'm so used to taking adept 2 (D) and using special points to raise magic I forgot about the free skill points that you get at C and B... <<hits himself with soft cover core book>>

Yeah, I actually played that through, I could take something like Magic (C) and Metatype (D), but I would lose 2 skill points. On the upside, the character would be "priority-legal" then, no Sum to 10 needed.
