== Background ==
When he was 21, Flip was a promising programming student with a knack for seeing holes in security. Someone noticed and he was hired directly out of college into a grey-hat hacking department at a subsidiary of Ares Tech. The training and team-building exercises were a pain, but the pay was good. The first run out of the gate sounded so simple: break into a competitor's test server, touch nothing, and report the network structure and weaknesses to his superiors. Problem is, it wasn't a normal test server. As soon as he cracked the node, he was hit with a swarm of nasty black IC that knocked him unconscious for three days. He recovered, but the corp doctors confirmed there was some permanent damage. Like any good corporation, they dropped him as soon as they could without legal ramifications.
Flip immediately made two new friends - revenge and alcohol. He spent his severance package and workman's comp on some wires, a couple fake identities, some cutting edge software, and, of course, booze. A lot of legwork and some fancy hacking netted him a thoroughly torched military research lab and two shiny new military grade drones. That day Flip learned two things: that he loved the feeling of sticking it to the man, and that there were people who did it for a living. Like him.
