Title: [IC] Prologue: Killdare
Post by: Stuttrboy on <09-27-16/2314:00>
Your Doc wagon shift is over and you scratch at the 5 o clock shadow that's grown over the last two day, you are beat but you are also considering what drug might be fun tonight.  You close up your locker and head to your vehicle when your comm link buzzes.  Gunderson has left a message.  >>I understand you are tired of just patching people up.  Let's see if you've got what it takes.  There's a dealer in Idylwood Park,we've run him off a few times he's not one of ours and he's selling BTLs to fucking children.   Someone needs to end him.  I know you're a paramedic and all but believe me you are saving lives here,

Killdare changes out of his work clothes, exchanging the red and white DocWagon jacket for his own black long coat. He tosses his blood stained clothes into the bin for cleaning by the auto-wash and heads to the garage. Killdare fires up the Thundercloud Morgan and pulls out of the corp parking structure. Once clear of the area he reboots his commlink and checks his "less than legit" messages, hoping there are none so he can get back to his doss, drop some Bliss and zone out.  Drek. What's this guy want? Killdare listens to the message as he winds his way back to his doss. BTLs to children. What the hell? That drek has got to stop. Killdare has seen the results of BTL burnout enough times to despise the dealers that sell 'em. But selling to kids is a whole 'nother level of asshole. He fires off a quick message to Gunderson, I'll be happy to end this piece of drek for yah.

Killdare drops by his doss to pick up his gear and figures its gunna be a long night, so instead of the Bliss he was looking forward to he mainlines some Long Haul. With the Long Haul fresh in his veins, he packs up his med bag, slips his trusty knife into his combat boot, straps on the shoulder holster with his T-250 and grabs his holdout for good measure. With one last look around the room to make sure he hasn't forgotten anything, he heads over to meet Gunderson.

The Next Round is busy.  There's a guy at the bar and a couple in a booth.  Gunderson appears to be in the middle of a hushed conversation with one of his boys and Scout and the beatnik troll are chatting away.  After Gunderson is done talking to his boy he invites you over with a jerk of his head.

We don't know if this guys is affilitated,  He says swiping a picture to your com link.  It pulls up a large black man in biker leathers and a grey hoodie.  His face is painted with a white skull.  Colorful guy, hard to miss.  He dresses up like some cheap trid version of a bocor.  There will be witnesses but nobody will talk to the cops, but if he has friends they might hear about it so you don't want to stand out too much.  We'll give you 1200 for the job.  My regular boys are already hunting down another group of thugs so I'm outsourcing, so do this tonight or I'll just have my guys do it.  Any questions?

Well drek. I was hoping to have a couple drinks, but I guess there's no time for that.  Killdare looks over his current attire to decide if he's going to stand out amongst the dregs in that neighborhood. For 500 more I'll bring him back to you alive so you can ask him questions. Like who he's working for. Or I could question him myself. Either way. I don't care. I'd just as soon end this guy.

Gunderson shrugs.  I'd suggest drinking after, but you do what you gotta do to calm your nerves or whatever.  If he's got reigns they are too stupid to be any threat to us...you on the other hand.  Well you're just one guy after all, no offense.  Put em in the ground he's had his chances.

Killdare gets the info from Gunderson and leaves the Next Round. He fires up the Morgan and heads to the park. When he gets a few blocks away he parks the bike in a nearby alley and sets the anti-theft system. It's not going to be hard to sneak up on this chip dealer, but no use giving him more of a chance than he deserves. Killdare switches the magazine in his shotgun to slugs, then to gel and back to slugs again, unable to decide. It's one thing to see a guy bleed out from a gut shot cause you arrived on the scene too late, it's quite another to be the one doing the shooting. Finally he decides on the gel rounds. Not so much because he wants to let the guy live, but in case some bystander gets in the mix. He pulls the Combat Knife from his boot and checks the edge. Razor sharp, like a surgeon's scalpel. Looks like tonight I'm gunna have to cut out some cancer. he says to himself. He puts the knife back in its sheath and clips it to his belt on the back of his right side hip where he can get to it quickly. He practices drawing it a few times until he feels comfortable with the location. Donning his ballistic mask he glances around the alley for the elements of a makeshift disguise. The mask will keep anyone from identifying him, but a little trickery will make it easier to get up close to him before he realizes anything is wrong. Nothing fancy, this drek-head probably won't be expecting trouble, just need to look like a chip-head. He sticks his hand in the gutter and wipes some of the mess on his jacket. The smell assaults his nostrils, but it will only help sell the effect. He grabs a poly-bag that's drifting down the alley and covers his head, as if he is using it to keep the rain out. He grabs a couple of the leads from his medkit and drapes them around his neck like they are BTL trodes. It won't fool the guy up close, but by that time it should be too late.

Having seen a thousand whacked out chip heads in his time its not hard to fake that shuffling walk they all get after a time. Head down to hide his face and the poly-bag draped over his head, Killdare wanders into the park to track down the dealer. He stops the first chip-head he finds and asks where he can score some "beetles".

It takes a few tries most are so zoned they can't do much more than drool at you.  The third guy eyeballs you he scratching at sores on his hands and swatting invisible insects.  You wanna score?  Sure man I can show you but, uh, I'm a little short on cash for a fix, so I don't really got no reason to go over there.  You front me 300 and I can take you and we can slot em at my campsite.  Whattya say?

300? If I had 300 wouldn't be down here looking to score, I'd be uptown. But I'll give you 50 and 50 more if the guy's got anything good

He sniffs and wipes his nose on his sleeve  Nah man he's got bomb shit, but if yer cheap he's got a few selections for 150, I'm fuckin broke so I don't care I guess.

Killdare slots him the full 100, figuring that way the chip-head will be in a hurry to get his fix and not be paying attention to much else. Lead on chief. He lets the other man go ahead, hoping the guy will act as yet another distraction to his intended target.

Right on man let's go party.  He scampers toward the the middle of the park.  You follow him until he comes to a large group picnic shelter.  You hang back a little as you seek an ork dressed very much like you pats him down before letting him to the shrouded figure under the marquee.  Maybe the guy is not quite as dumb as Gunderson thought.  Looks like he bartered services for goods with this one.  You're up next for the pat down.
Title: Re: [IC] Prologue: Killdare

Killdare is reminded of something a former military guy once told him. A plan is just a list of things that ain't gunna happen. Well that's certainly what his plan is now. But nothing for it. Killdare hunches over and tucks his hand inside his jacket gripping the handle of the sawed off shotgun. No use killing this guy. Not really his fault his boss is a bottom-feeder. As soon as he sees the mask he's gunna know the jig is up, but by that time he'll be close enough to shoot him somewhere his armor (if he's got any) wont help him. If his jacket is open a gel round to the nuts will drop him in an instant or one under his chin. Either way, should only take one shot and hopefully he can catch the dealer before he gets his bearings. They shouldn't be expecting much trouble from a bunch of chip-heads.

Killdare stumbles forward into the bodyguard and hopes everything goes to plan.. oh right.. that list of things that's not going to happen.

You stumble against the guard and bring your shotgun up and blast him in the chin.   His head rocks back and he crumples to the ground.  He's not quite out but he doesn't seem to be making any attempt to get up.  The chip-head you came with ducks turning towards you with his eyes wide in disbelief at the sound.  The cowled man pulls a gun and turns tail and runs, firing wildly behind him.
go ahead and roll a defense check and give me a body+armor if you don't score more than 2 hits.  Then running if you give chase.

My mistake you tied, it was a grazing hit only.
He doesn't have much of a lead but you aren't gaining on him as quickly as you'd like.  You fire your shotgun and blow the dealer off his feet sending him tumbling.  You catch up to him  and he rolls over to face you using his legs to edge away from you his arms out in front him.  No. no. no. Don't kill me man.  I, I got money, I can hook you up, won't ever come back.  Please. please.

Killdare switches the magazine of his shotgun from gel rounds to normal ammo as he walks towards the crawling dealer. Yah got money eh? Fork it over. And your stash. Killdare racks the shotgun for emphasis, ejecting the chambered gel round and replacing it with a slug.

Title: Re: [IC] Prologue: Killdare
Post by: Overbyte on <10-02-16/2216:34>
Killdare is torn. Anytime he has shot someone it was always in self defense, or preemptively to avoid be killed. Killing in cold blood isn't as easy as he thought it would be. He hesitates. Then lowers his shotgun slightly knowing it will put the guy at ease.
Sure. You can go. As fast and far as your legs will carry you. But letting this guy off was never in the cards.

Killdare kneecaps him. Both knees.

He makes sure not to hit the femoral artery, so it won't be fatal, but this guy will never walk on his own again.
It's a risk leaving this guy alive, but Killdare can't be ID'd and maybe he'll spread word to the other low lifes.
If I EVER hear about you dealing again, I'm going to find you and finish the job. SLOWLY.
Killdare polices his shells. Not wanting to leave any evidence behind.
You better call an ambulance. That looks pretty bad. I give you maybe an hour before you bleed to death or die from shock.
Title: Re: [IC] Prologue: Killdare
Post by: Stuttrboy on <10-03-16/2045:49>
The guy screams and clutches his knee after you shoot the first one, but when you shoot the second he seems to choke and his eyes roll into the back of his head and he spasms for a few seconds then slumps to the ground and a pool of blood begins forming beneath him.  While you did your best not to hit the femoral artery a shotgun isn't exactly a precision tool.  This guy will die without medical attention.

God dammit. Figures this asshole would try to die on me.

Killdare thinks about letting him die, but he'll suffer more if he lives. He pulls out his medkit and stabilizes the dying chip dealer. He doesn't use any meds,  because meds are expensive and if every there was someone who didn't deserve it, it's this guy.
So.. Stabilizing is an extended test (Total Damage, Complex Action) and I don't know how much damage he's taken, but probably quite a bit.
I have First Aid 9 + Medkit 4  - 2 for poor conditions = 11d6
Stabilization (http://orokos.com/roll/442334): 11d6t5 3  Stabilization (http://orokos.com/roll/442335): 11d6t5 5  Stabilization (http://orokos.com/roll/442336): 11d6t5 4  Stabilization (http://orokos.com/roll/442337): 11d6t5 4

That's not bad.. 4 Complex Actions to stabilize 16 boxes. Should be enuf  :D
Killdare does some quick patching, a little wound sealing foam from the medkit and some bandages, and then makes a call for an ambulance. In this neighborhood it might take a while for them to arrive and the asshole might die in the interim but he had his chance. Two chances really. And that's two more than he deserved. Not going to lose any sleep over this guy.

Killdare heads out of the park to where he left his bike. He fires up the Mustang and drives back to the Next Round.

The Last round is slow as usual,  Gunderson sit in his corner as usual.  You walk up to him and he screws up his face and looks at you.  Good God.  You stink,  What do you want?

You ponder for a moment whether you should lie to Gunderson or in fact what you should say to him at all.
Title: Re: [IC] Prologue: Killdare
Post by: Overbyte on <10-03-16/2352:28>
Killdare had spent the ride back to the bar contemplating just what he was going to tell Gunderson and had forgotten all about the remains of his disguise still giving off an air of "eau de garbage". He finally settled on taking a middle of the road approach. Not lying per se, but not telling him that the dealer might still be breathing. It would give him the dual rep of being cold-blooded, and doing what he was asked without question. Perhaps it would lead to more and better jobs, and hopefully better pay. With his cut back hours at DocWagon he could barely make the rent these days.

Your problem is taken care of.

Anticipating Gunderson's next question Killdare adds:

Two shotgun slugs. I left him in a pool of his own blood. No one will be able to ID me or trace it back to you.
Oh. And I took his stash off him.

Killdare drops the bag of chips on the table.

Maybe you can fence em and hook me up with a finder's fee in addition to the 1500 you promised for the job?

Killdare knows it was only 1200, but he figures what the hell, might as well try to squeeze out a few more nuyen.
Negotiation was never really his strong suit.

The Job was to kill him.  I figure he probably won't be back after that so I won't hold it against you for future employment.  However, this job was not completed.  There's a fence at the Union you can sell the credsticks and chips you got off him.

Killdare is pissed about not getting payed and he let's it show.
I'm no assassin Gunderson. I put a stop to him. That's what you really wanted. And now he'll put the word out to the other low lives. If you still want him dead he's going to be in no position to put up a fight. I'm sure even one of YOUR goons could handle him now.
Killdare takes the bag of chips from the table and leaves. At least maybe he'll get a few nuyen for the chips.
You're assuming Gunderson didn't already know the outcome.  You are welcome to investigate how he knew.  How far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go?
I know you aren't, but I wanted to see what kind of person you are.  Maybe you walked out of here intending to kill the man but lost your nerve or maybe you bald faced lied to me.  I'm a pretty good read of people and I'm assuming the first.  Normally some punk takes a job from me and comes back here and lies to me, he doesn't walk away from the table.  What you say is legit you may have put the fear into him better than most of my guys could have done, but that wasn't the job and you know it.

Now I know you've got chops and you've got principles.  Now I know what sort of jobs to send you on, and you know what you are and aren't capable of.

There's 1500 dollars between the two credsticks and if the other tweaker was legit you may be able to get that much again out of the stash too, so it wasn't a total loss.

Killdare grumbles. Fair enough. I need a fukin drink or three. Barkeep!

Killdare heads to the bar, whips out one of the stolen credsticks and starts some heavy drinking.
When he's done with that he heads home, snorts some Bliss to counter the Long Haul and zones out for a few hours.

Fukin' Gunderson he says before he passes out.

You wake up the next morning still in your clothes, clothes that you deliberately soiled with sewage and blood, now your bed reeks of it too.  Your mouth feels like it's grown a beard and you have a slight hangover.  you can't decide if you are hungry or are going to throw up.
Title: Re: [IC] Prologue: Killdare
Post by: Overbyte on <10-06-16/0038:11>
Killdare rolls out of bed..  the Long Haul kicking back in now that the Bliss is out of his system, and staggers to the sink to throw up.
He sorts through the various empty cans and bottles of beer bottle until he finds one with a little left at the bottom, throws back the can and swirls the warm "beer" around in his mouth to get rid of the puke taste, then swallows anyway. He checks the fridge to see if there is any leftovers and reheats the pot of soycaf sitting on the stove.
With his senses coming back online he begins to notice the smell.
Drek, is that me or did a Devil Rat die in my crapper?
He locates the source of the stench and does what he can to wipe the drek off his jacket.
Gunna need to airs this out now. What was I thinking?
He reaches into the pockets and checks the credsticks to see what's on em.
Well.. at least I might be able to pay my rent next month. Wonder how much I can get for these chips.
Killdare rummages around and locates some slightly cleaner clothes, throwing the ones he was wearing into the sink as a reminder to clean them. He throws back on the jacket and heads out of his crap box, making sure to lock the door behind him. As he leaves he looks back in the apartment, trying to remember just when it was that he started living like a burn out.
Once out on the street, he makes sure his commlink is broadcasting his fake SIN and then rings the comcode for the fence that Gunderson gave him.
Hey. My name is Killdare. Gunderson said you might be interested in some merch I got. You interested?

You don't have a comm code just a location but I'll run with it.
You head to the Union to meet with Mortimer, the fence whose name Gunderson gave you.  You enter the Union and the first thing you notice are the striking bartenders in hot pants and tight white shirts that hide little and only entice the imagination who wave happily as you enter.  As early as it is the only person in the bar other than the employees is a dwarf lost in AR.  A quick word with the bartenders verifies the dwarf is indeed Mortimer.  You take a seat at the table and lay out the pack of chips.  His eyes focus on you then the chips.  He pokes through them studies one from each packet.

You're Gundersons guy huh?  The quality on these isn't terrible I guess.  I'll give you 1000 for the set, or 1500 in credit at this fine establishment.

Killdare looks around the Union. Nice place. Wonder why I've never been here before. Probably 'cause I can't afford it.
It's early, but that's no excuse to start drinking. Hair of the dog and all that. Besides, it gives him an excuse to leer at the bartenders up close for a little longer.

He takes the beer and heads over to Mortimer and lays the merchandise out. Hoping to get a few nuyen for these.

Credit huh? Killdare looks back over at the bartenders. Man that is tempting. But I could really use the cash right now. My rent is coming due and it might be a drek house but it has a roof and running water. Sometimes at least. Killdare laughs. You deal mostly in chips? Or other stuff too? Just wondering in case I come across anything else you might want.

He takes the cash, but stays for a few beers. I gotta make more money so I can afford the prices at this place.
After the beers, Killdare heads back to his place. With the Longhaul in his system Killdare has plenty of time to kill. He checks his commlink, it's gunna be at least 3 days till he comes down, might as well make good use of the time. He calls in to DocWagon to see if he can take an extra shift, and then starts to clean his apartment. The smell is getting so bad that he is actually beginning to notice it and his clothes definitely need a wash. He's been thinking about upgrading his medkit for a while and a guy at work told him about do-it-yourself software upgrades on the Matrix so he searches for the info.

I can move pretty much anything you might want.  If I can't move it myself I probably know someone who can.  Biologicals or cyberware you will probably want to talk to Vicki though, she's the local organ-legger...just don't call her that to her face.  She is technically legit.

You are informed there are no available shifts but you will be contacted if one were to open up.  Your matrix search doesn't help much the parts you would need to upgrade would run 250 nuyen and another 100 for the additional supplies.  Gunderson could get the stuff for you for sure, you could even buy it legit from Doc Wagon.  You've still got three days to go and that only took about 20 minutes of your time.  You wonder what you are going to do with yourself for three days with no sleep.

Wired from the Long Haul, Killdare searches the Matrix for the latest Medical news and gadgets. An hour of that and he realizes he meant to start cleaning as the stench of his clothes in the sink and the ones he is wearing begin to assault his nostrils. He begins a cleaning spree, clearing the empty beer bottles, soycaf packs and used syringes from the floor. It's the first time he's seen the floor in his place in a long time, which makes him realize the floor needs cleaning too. He borrows a mop from the super and scrubs the floor to within an inch of its life. He cleans off the dishes caked with the left-overs of god-knows-what and then washes his dirty clothes in the sink. He sits back in his overstuffed recliner, which is no longer covered in dirty laundry and gets on the Matrix again. He begins to read about the latest Cybertechnology and realizes he really doesn't know much about cyber implants and decides to educate himself on the subject.
I'd like to raise my Cybertechnology to 1  It (supposedly) only takes a day to raise a skill to 1. I also want to raise my Intimidation to 1 and possibly my Negotiation to 2 since it looks like I'll be needing it.  ;D  I have Jack-of-all-trades so I have plenty of Karma
Time slips by and before he realizes it his hunger has grown to intolerable levels, not to mention his need for a drink. With the extra nuyen burning a hole in his pocket, Killdare heads to the Union for some serious drinking and a bite to eat.
If nothing crazy happens, I'll eat and drink and recover and if I still have left over time I'm going to call Gunderson and ask if he has any more work. Might as well make some more cash while I can.
You kill most of the day with chores and study and as the day bleeds into evening you head to the Union.  They don't have much for food but they nuke some decent nachos with a decently spiced krill based "meat".  The place does surprising business for a Barrens club.  You notice quite a bit of business happening on the sly too, not just prostitutes either.  Mortimer does a brisk business and it seems a lot of his clients take it in credit.  Meanwhile the troll bouncer stands head and shoulders over everyone watching his flock vigilantly.

Gunderson pings your com with a message.  I clock you at the Union.  I need you to get to the Organ Grinders.  Vicki's got trouble, again.  When you are done find out what the fuck is going on over there this is the second time in as many days.

I'm geting paid for this right?
Killdare laughs a little. Despite not actually getting paid directly by Gunderson last time, between the credsticks and the BTLs he made out OK. Good enough to make his rent and to be enjoying this place on top. He had his eye on a STATScan and at this rate maybe he could buy one soon-ish.

Killdare checks his gear. He's been doing a little drinking and forgotten what he came here with. If there is going to be trouble he better be strapped and there probably wasn't enough time to swing by the apartment first. He checks his boot and his trusty combat knife is still where it's supposed to be. He looks for the Light Pistol he carries in the small of his back only to find it missing. The he remembers the Union policy on guns. He must have checked it at the door. Along with the more obvious sawed-off T-250. You don't going wandering the barrens at night without protection, but the nice places don't like you packing indoors.
Negotiation (http://orokos.com/roll/445895): 5d6t5 1
Organ Grinder? Vicki? Again? I'll head right over.
Killdare grabs his coat and heads to the door picking up his guns on the way out. He checks the action on both weapons and makes sure they are loaded, the shotgun with gel rounds, and holsters them. Hopping onto his bike he heads over to the Organ Grinder prepared for, and perhaps hoping for, trouble.

Yeah 1500 and you don't HAVE to kill them this time.

Organ Grinders is a sort of morgue/clinic/chop shop that deals in white market biomatter and second hand augments.  The structure is about the size of a single level brownstone.  There's a friendly inside and an unknown number of assailants with an unknown layout.  This might make you dead, but at least, right now, you feel alive.
Well I'll try to keep em alive. Maybe they'll have some answers.
Killdare guns the Morgan and heads to Organ Grinders. He's not obeying any traffic laws getting there, but in this neck of the woods are there really any traffic laws anyway? He is thinking more about the adrenaline rush and the money than any danger there might be. A bunch of local thugs probably. Killdare switches the bike to auto for a moment and reaches into his pockets, searching for his drug stash. Who knows what could be in there? He rationalizes to himself, but really things have been pretty boring the last few days and he's looking to kick it up a notch... or maybe three. He pulls a small glass ampule, cracks it and snorts the contents. Immediately he can feel the rush as the Jazz fills his system. Let's do this!
Kamikaze Duration Multiplier (http://orokos.com/roll/445937): 1d6 6 A full hour!
He pulls his bike to the curb just a 20 feet down the road from the chop shop and hops off. He had intended to be more subtle, but the Jazz takes hold and he throws caution to the wind. He pulls the shotgun from underneath the jacket as he saunters down the street, eyeing the neighborhood denizens as if to say "You want some of this?" He makes his way up the steps to the front door and looks to see if its open, hoping that its not so he can kick it in.
Are you using Kamikaze or Jazz or are you speed balling both?
The Organ Grinders is two blocks away, which may have been the reason Gunderson called you instead of his usual guys.  You kick in the door, which is unlocked, but it looks cool.  Your announcement falls on an empty waiting room.  Two doors lead to a restroom and a pair of double doors with the sign above "Staff Only" above it.  You hear shouting from the back and the crash of things being knocked over, kicked around and pounded on in general.  The yelling consists mainly of animalistic screams and incoherent sentences.  The few you can make out are things like Open the fucking door! or Where's our friends bitch. and apparentlt someone simply saying Fuck! over and over and over again.  You peek through the doors and see four guys one appears to be unconscious and bleeding, the second is bending over him apparently with a medkit and some of the instruments from the clinic, the third  is kicking over anything he can find and the last guy is taking an axe to a door in the back of the room.
Just Jazz. I felt Kamikaze was a bit overkill, and I didn't want to be a crazed maniac if there was an innocent in here. I'm a medic. I take my drugs responsibly.  :o
Killdare triages the battle. The guy with the medkit and his patient are no immediate threat so he choses between the guy with the axe and the "kicker". Deciding he doesn't want to go hand-to-hand with a guy holding an axe he bursts through the door and takes aim at the axe wielder first .

Your second target goes down And the two remaining take shots at you, apparently the guy with the axe had a gun too.  One shot flies wide the other catches you in the gut making you huff a bit but it's absorbed by your armor.  You might have a pretty bruise after this though.  You poke back in to shoot the first guy and he crumples to the ground leaving only the single unwounded.  You pop out and fire at him but whiff.  He appears to be doing an excellent job of taking cover.  He returns fire and scores a hit dealing 5 DV

A musffled scream comes from the office the goons had been trying to get in.  No!  I'm not!  Kill those fuckers!

The ganger screams back shut your mouth you god damn cunt this is all your fault.

Killdare ducks back behind the door again. Out of ammo he considers his options. With that much cover there is no way he'll hit the guy with his pistol. There's nothing for it. He'll have to take a chance and charge the guy. It's risky but once he gets in close he figures he can make short work of him.

Killdare pulls the combat knife from his boot, takes a deep breath and charges through the doorway, hoping to catch his opponent by surprise.
5S?  You were shot that's 5P right?  or am I overlooking something?
As you charge at the last ganger standing he fires at you, a stinging pain in your shoulder tells you it connected it might bruise a little but you don't think it did any really damage.   He's quick, you don't get to stay close to him but you slice into him deeply a scarlet spurt of blood spray splatters the stainless steel.  He stumbles and fires at you weakly but misses.  You return a thrust into his chest your blade slipping between two ribs and he falls to the ground.

The back office bursts open and you spin the jazz shouting attack, attack in the reptile part of your brain.  A young woman comes out.  Could this be Vicki, the organ-legging street doc?  She appears to be about 15 years old, skinny, human with short, curly, dirty blond hair and she's can't be 5 feet tall.  She looks up at you her eyes watery with tears and a little blood tricking from a fat bottom lip.  She sniffles and says, did you kill 'em?

The damage is only physical if (Base Damage + Net Success - AP) is greater than my armor value. I was thinking that is pretty unlikely if they are using pistols with a base damage up to 9 and I had a decent defense roll and armor 12.

Killdare finishes what he thinks is the last of his opponents when the office door bursts open. He spins on the new intruder stopping only moments short of carving them into pieces. Seeing the young girl he lowers his weapon to his side, but somewhere in the back of his mind he thinks this still could be a trick. Taking a moment to calm himself he answers the girl.

This one might not make it.  He gestures to the one he stabbed as the pool of blood spreads on the floor.
The other two will recover. Give us a chance to question them. Are you Vicki? You look a little young to be a doc. You know who sent me? Figuring only the real Vicki would know Gunderson's name.

Geezus girl? What the hell? That was totally unnecessary and Gunderson wanted to know what was going on. These guys might have been able to tell us something.

Killdare hesitates a second and then moves aside. These guys probably deserved it, he rationalizes. Trying to rape a 15 year old girl? This other guy is beyond help anyway. He collects the guns and commlinks and phones Gunderson.

Everything under control here. Vicki's OK. She says its a bunch of local gangers named the Giants trying to extort protection money. I'm headed back to you after I help Vicki clean up this mess.

Vicki nods at you as you step aside and she shoots him in the head without so much as flinching.  This waif of a girl is either in the grip of a rage so powerful that you can barely tell or she is a stone cold killer.  You are not sure which idea disturbs you more.

I expect there is a more thorough explanation pending.  Gunderson responds.

Thanks, says Vicki.  You don't have to help.  This is sorta what I do.  This is a morgue and chop shop after all.

No problem. A little gore doesn't bother me none. Let me help you get these guys up on the table.
They sure didn't make 15 year olds like this when I was a kid, Killdare thinks.
He uses the excuse to hang around a little longer and see if Vicki is any more forthcoming or if any more trouble is going to show up.
So what's a nice girl like you doing in a joint like this? Killdare jokes, trying to lighten the mood.

If you want.  You help pick up some of the equipment and get the goons up on the tables.  You work in silence until you break it with your joke.  Vicki sighs and grabs a heavy apron and goggle and starts putting them on before she answers.

Gunderson paid my way through 6 years of medical school and I'm here paying him back.  She take a bottle of some chemical and splashes small amounts on the bloodied tiles of the floor as she speaks.  She grabs a hose and starts spraying the floor, rinsing towards the indented drains.  You think I'm a kid don't you?  I get that a lot, but I'm 23.

Bye she says as you leave.

When you reach The Next Round Gunderson seems to be in a foul mood.  He's usually buried in his PDA but today he is looking up at every noise.  He thrusts his chin at you when you come in and he kicks out a chair for you.
Tell me you figured out what's going on over there? He says spinning a cred stick in front of him.
Title: Re: [IC] Prologue: Killdare
Post by: Overbyte on <11-16-16/2308:53>
Killdare takes the chair that Gunderson offers and thinks about ordering a beer, but then decides better of it, thinking Gunderson is in no mood for delays.

Well.. sure enough there were four drek heads tearing up the joint when I got there. Seems like Vicki had got one of them before she she locked herself in the other room. I took out the other three and was going to question them, but when I told Vicki the coast was clear she came out and blew all their brains out. I tried to stop her, but she wasn't havin' none of it. Seems like she didn't take kindly to them trying to rape and kill her. She's got a temper that's for sure. I talked to Vicki and she said the guys were gangers out of Tacoma. Some crew name of Giants. They've been trying to extort protection money. She really didn't say much more, just that there was similar trouble the other day and you had to send someone over. Don't these Giant guys know you run the protection around here?

Killdare feels like he is missing some piece of the puzzle, and worries he might not get payed again. He sticks his hand in his jacket pocket and fumbles around to find an ampule of Bliss, but he thinks better of taking it in front of Gunderson. He doesn't know him that well and it might not look very professional taking drugs at a business meeting. Even if it is a bar.

No one runs protection here.  I'm sort of the unofficial sheriff.  I have the manpower to keep the peace and the businesses chip in to keep the bills paid.  Typically groups get it in their head to try to start that crap here once in a while but we don't usually have to make an example quite this often.

Both groups are from the Giants, and they are escalating, but why did they both target Vick?

Mortimer watches as you go then gets back to his AR.  When you order your first shot the bartender pours it then sets the bottle down in front of you.  Mortimer says thanks, she says.

Killdare turns and gives Mortimer a nod and starts to work on the task of finishing off the bottle.
Pour yourself a shot, he says to the bartender.
He figures he plans on spending a lot of time here. Might as well make friends with the staff.
As Killdare nurses the bottle through the night he tries to take stock of the goings on at the Union. Who is hanging around and what sort of business is being conducted.
Never know what might turn out to be useful. Or profitable.

When morning rolls around (or the Union closes) Killdare heads back to his flop to finally get some well needed rest.

Mortimer appears to be distracted by AR but shrugs at you when you nod but keeps at whatever he's is doing.

Thanks babe, says the bartender.  She pours her self a shot and knocks it back leaning back far enough that the cut off white shirt she's wearing gives you a nice shot of under-boob.  She slams the glass down in front of you with a wink and slides it down the bar and pops it into a rinse as she assists another patron.  You chit chat with the bar tenders who introduce themselves as Katy and Mary.  They are friendly enough but you see them lay it on thick for some of the other patrons working for their tips.  Hey everybody's gotta eat right?

You see a few small time deals go down.  You think you've ID'd a dealer and a small courier business running out of the place but nothing you haven't seen before.  Mortimer seems to do a brisk business as well, most taking credit for their goods.  You get propositioned a few times after you've been there a while, but one of the girls sit down next to you and tries to strike up a conversation.

So are you shy or are you just more interested in your bottle?

Well.. this bottle IS pretty interesting.
Killdare tries to think back to the last time he had a woman. He takes stock of his blood toxin level, not wanting to embarrass himself.
Figuring he's not that drunk, nor has he taken any illicit substances.. yet.
But I'm guessing you are pretty interesting too. Care to join me?

Sure I can stay for a while.  You celebrating or something?

Katy wordlessly adds another glass to your collection but the girl doesn't seem to notice.

Celebratin'? I don't know about that. Just finished a job and got a little nuyen burin' a hole. Had a lot of work lately.
Killdare becomes a little thoughtful.
You know I trained to be a doctor. Can you believe that? But now it seems like a spend more time hurtin' people than I do helpin' em.
Eh. I don't know why I'm telling you. Guess its 'cause you sittin' here.
Killdare downs his glass and pours another.

You working for Morty?  I didn't know he gave out jobs.  Morty's good people.  I'm sure if he's gotcha hurtin' people they probably had it coming.  So people need a little hurting if ya ask me.

You notice her glass is still empty.  She doesn't seem to notice it however.

Nah. I've been doing the odd job for a guy Morty knows. I just found out about this place from him. I kinda like it here though. It's nicer than the places I was hanging out before. And you are definitely right. Those guys had it coming. But still.
Killdare jams down another shot.
You not drinkin'?
Killdare pours himself another and holds the bottle over the other glass.

She looks at the glass surprised if it's an act she's damn good at it.  Sure!  If you're pouring.

I guess that makes more sense.  Can't talk about the jobs i guess.  Doctor patient privilege and all that?  So you think about becoming a regular here then?  Most of the regulars don't come until dark at least.  I'll introduce ya if you're still conscious by then.

Well if there's one thing I can do it's hold my liquor. But I might try to catch some Z's before then. Been a long night.
You work for Morty? Does he own this place?

Nah, Jack owns the bar but the union runs The Union.

So who do I introduce you as?

Well most people call me Killdare. It's sorta a joke. From an old-time vid i think. Some guy started calling me and it stuck.
What do they call you? Other than gorgeous? Killdare smirks.

An exaggerated look of horror crosses her face.  Oh dear, that...that was terrible, she laughs.

my friends call me Stacy.  So what's the joke, like kill dat over dare?

Got a project for you.  Tomorrow at 2100 hours.  Be sober.  That gives you just about a 24 hours.

Well.. like I said.. I studied to be a doctor, but things didn't turn out that way.
And I guess he thought it was funny.. the name "Killdare" from that doctor on the show.
Not that funny.

Oh.. sorry.. that's my comm.  Sec.
Hmm.. looks like another job for tomorrow. When it rains it pours I guess.
I probably should get some rest. He actually wants me to be sober. Killdare laughs.

But maybe we can continue this another time?
I take it this girl is a pro?
Sure.  That'd be great.  I'm here most of the time and you can let the wonder twins here know how to get a hold of me.
Feel Free to continue in IC [Prelude] Angels--Elena and Sam are a little ahead of you but pretty close.  Don't forget to check the OOC page for other info.

I'm not actually planning much for between now and then since I've kinda been burning the candle at both ends lately and Gunderson wants me sharp.
So I'll make a "catch-up post here.
Good talking to you. I'm sure we'll see each other again soon. Assuming I make it back from whatever Gunderson has planned.

Killdare finishes his drink and leaves a healthy tip at the bar.
A short ride back to his place, but all the while he's thinking about Stacy. Did he really leave because of the job?
Or was he just afraid of getting involved. She was a pro, at least he thinks she must have been. So where's the involvement?
Maybe he's just feeling a little too sorry for himself.
Snap out of it pussy. Killdare mumbles to himself.
At least the nuyen was rolling in now. Hooking up with this Gunderson was turning out to be a pretty good deal.
Wonder what he's got going for tomorrow? Sounded important if he thought he had to mention to be sober.

Killdare opens the door to his apartment and for a moment thinks he's gotten the wrong place. Then he remembers he went on a binge and cleaned it.
yHe throws his jacket over the chair, empties his pockets on the table grabs a suprisingly clean glass and pours some water.
Gotta keep hydrated when you do all that drinking.

Killdare unceremoniously flops on the bed, that craziness in the chop shop keeps running thru his mind, interspersed with thoughts of Stacy, but before he knows it he's out cold.

When he wakes, there is plenty of time before the meet, so he puts on clean clothes, checks all his weapons and makes sure he is carrying plenty of drugs and a grenade or two.
Never know what's going to happen with Gunderson's jobs.

Killdare stops for a bite to eat at the Stuffer Shack on the way and arrives at the meet a little early.
