  • Popping stims, it's time to go to work.

Just finished going through a marathon of pain trying to get my new copy of Mass Effect 3 to work, all because of Origin. 10 reboots and an OS repair later I've finally got that piece of *Censored* *Censored* *Censored* working, so I might be able to play my game.

A note to any EA marketing people out there: If your DRM kills your customers computers, we can't play video games and thus will STOP BUYING YOUR STUFF! Mass Effect 3 is the first game I've ever bought that, post purchase, I've considered trying to find a pirated copy of merely to avoid dealing with Origin.

Rant over, thanks for listening. It was therapeutic.
"When in doubt, C4" - Mythbusters. As true in 2070 as when it was first spoken.

"You're wearing WHAT?" - Group reaction when our street sam walked into a meet wearing light military armour.

On the upside, once you do get it working:  Great game.

Though, at first, I thought the title of this thread was about some sort of Designated Marksman Rifle in some game or another.  :P

Heard of Spore's DRM?

And they were the most pirated game of 2000.

Corporations are willing to make their customers go through hell, just to keep some of them from taking their things for a few extra minutes.

I'm really starting to get the itch to play a Shadowrun game set in this day and age, with characters similar to the players. Just so many parallels! McDonald's had Extraterritoriality in Jamaica, at one point, even - don't know if they still do, but that's precedence. RFIDs, the U.S. is run by corps...And guess how much the U.S. profited from 'terrorists' who caused 9/11.

Don't get me wrong. Horrific tragedy. I am not knocking that. I find it suspicious, however, just how fucking much money was made off that. E.X. the 'put' options on Boeing

The only way to get companies to stop making games with draconian DRM is to boycott those companies (and even better - send a letter telling them why you're not buying from them and why you're telling your friends to do the same). Whining about how your latest game isn't playing fair with you is just the sound of them rubbing your dollar bills together and cackling at the meek failing to take a stand for personal property.

That's why I won't buy an EA game.

Given how central DLC is to the business model these days, that's not entirely true.  If you can't play your game, you can't get the DLC, and that's far better for their profit margin (no retail involvement) - so if something's going to hurt DLC conversion rates, they have to pay attention to that.
