Hi,  I am using shifter-a night-elf, Panther ( leopard ), Phys-Ad.  I am about to buy my sixth point of magic and i was looking around the forum and couldn't find what i was looking for.
I want to Partial-shift.  Maybe a human hand while in Panther form or a claw or my panther head while in elf form.  My GM said if i can figure out a fair point cost for it, I can  buy it using my new magic point.  any Suggestions for a Point cost?

Rather than a Power point cost, it could be a special metamagic that you have to find another shapeshifter to learn the technique from. Thus it will cost you an Initiate grade (or 15 Karma if you use this option to buy a metamagic) rather than a Power point.

Perhaps make it an advanced technique where you need a prerequisite metamagic like Adept Centering.

Advice to your GM: Don't.  If you want, take the appropriate adept powers (Killing Hands, etc.), geas them with the geas being 'Partial Shapeshift', and go from there.

I'd agree with the sentiment of not allowing it, but it seems the GM is letting the player find a way of having it in the game. Your suggestion as being part of Killing Hands made me think they could introduce a Way of the Shifter quality where appropriate Adept powers are expressed as partial shifts like you suggested.

I like the idea of the advanced metamagic coming off of Adept Centering. Adepts could use more metamagic :)

I like the idea of the metamagic...
One could see that as shifters get more powerful, they could manage to have a partial shift, may be even allowing a warrior form (see kate Daniels books with Curran).
This would bring the shifters with an intermediate form, the one we are used to with standard were creatures.

Here's my problem with 'metamagic that lets me partial shift': it's going to likely very swiftly allow the character to gain powers in 'human form' that he didn't pay for.  Improved Reflexes (because he gets them in his animal form), a lethal/claw attack, night vision, boosted attributes, whatever.

If the character already has all the powers he might gain by 'partial-shifting', then it's a matter of style, and should cost a small amount.  If the character is looking to gain all those powers via that 'partial-shifting', whether that's enhanced vision, claws, etc. then he should pay a cost commesurate with the powers he's theorizing he could have.

In short, if he wants a 'crinos' form - which, please note, is purely a creation of Hollywood and White Wolf - then his GM would best see whether he has the powers already, and if not, then perhaps he takes the geas penalty of 'must partially shift' and call it done.

I agree that some limits should be set to the partial shift. This would be Dependent on the GM and on the power level of the game..

actually Natural weapon is the ONLY power shapeshifters do not retain while shifted into metahuman form. Senses, stats, etc are all available in both forms.
