New GM looking for vetting of pre-rolled characters

Hello, all. I'll be starting up a game soon with five novice players (six including myself, the novice GM). We'll be starting with a one-shot run to accustom everyone to the rules prior to building long-term characters.

After browsing the forums some, I've put together a team of five runners (doing so has been a pretty good tutorial on the rules, if nothing else). I'd appreciate it if you could look them over, individually, and as a cohesive team.  I'm most interested in:
1. That I'm not breaking any char-gen rules (SR4A 20th Anniversary Core Only).
2. That every character has what it takes to support their concept (e.g. not kitted with a gun that doesn't match their firearms skill).
3. That the characters are roughly balanced (each should be the best in their core competency and capable in at least one other area).
4. That there aren't any terribly unoptimized design decisions
Any other insights are also appreciated.

The team consists of:
1. A pistol adept / face
2. A B&E specialist with hacking ability to exploit unguarded nodes
3. A generalist mage (deliberately not summoning for simplicity sake)
4. A drone rigger weighted towards surveillance
5. A street samurai

Personally, I'd suggest saving on Essence and money by getting rid of the Reaction Enhancers and reducing the Wired Reflexes to rating 1. Some here will claim that "all combat-oriented characters should have 3 Initiative Passes", but from my experience, having 2 is plenty.

Dont know much about riggers but encrypt 5 seems obvious to me. You cant tamper with a node you cant beat the encryption on.
cant go wrong with a street sam they are pretty hard to make point inefficient.

None of which is absolutely necessary, however, a Way would be useful. A geas just removes too much control of the character from the player for my tastes unless the geas is allowed to be something that several posters here would call "cheese".

The muscle toner 4 could be useful, but isn't strictly necessary. While the augmentation and cyber eyes can be removed without too much impact on the concept, it all comes down to flavor on those two, really.

As I stated before, 3 initiative passes is unnecessary from my experience.

D'oh, don't know why they didn't show up in the Chummer text print out. Each of the Roto-drones should have a standard Ingram White Knight on the weapons mount.  Maybe it's because I added it to the mount, not the drone.

Is restricted gear in one of the additional rule books? I tried to keep everything under availability 12.

As far as everyone being underpowered, are they all equally underpowered?  Do I need to tone the mage down to bring him in line?

Ideally, combat effectiveness wise, I'd like the Sam + Mage to be most effective (call it 100%), the Adept + Rigger to be about 80% effective, and the infiltrator to be about 60%. I'd also like the team as a whole to be strong but not crushing vs. the opposition in the Missions Season 4 products.

I don't know how my play group will end up rolling, but I'd like the first exposure to be a team that has strong non-combat options for most scenarios. Combat effectiveness aside, what deficiencies does this group need shored up?

Restricted Gear is in the Runner's Companion book, and for how you state you want effectiveness to play out, my suggestions on the Street Sam and adding Restricted Gear + Power Focus 4 should get you to that point for Missions. From what I understand, they're constructed to be completed by characters that aren't "heavily optimized".

Shotguns use the Longarms skill, so if he gets caught, he can use one of those (that they can't be silenced is immaterial once you've been caught).

From my experience, 3 IP is useful for both offense and defense.  The rest of the group have other specialties, but can still fight.  The street samurai has combat as his main function - he should be noticeably better at it.  2 IP may be fine for shooting a few mooks, but 3 IP is good when the numbers are against you (often the case), or when you are facing tougher opposition.  Generally, it is 4 IP that is too much - not because it is too many initiative passes, but because it has too high of an opportunity cost at character creation.

Overall decent characters.  For the pistols guy, I would lower the Attribute boost by 1; you are getting an extra point of Drain in exchange for a single piddly die to roll.  Like counterstrike, you get most of the benefit at level: 1.  Unlike counterstrike, additional levels can make it less effective.  You want a Drain that you can reliably soak for this.  I would use the 0.25 points for a level of enhanced perception - judging by how everyone has infiltration and perception, these seem to be important skills for your game.  Combat sense is good, but I would reluctantly drop it in favor of maxing out kinesics.  His utility as a face is slightly more important than a bit of extra combat effectiveness.

Rigging and hacking are not my strongest areas, so I can help you less there.  The infiltration guy might be better with pistols, since sniping is kind of a niche role.  For the rigger, I would give him at least some kind of personal ranged skill.  You might also consider swapping the ratings for aircraft vs. ground craft.

For the mage, I am surprised you didn't give him either a mentor spirit or a power focus - his dice pool is fairly middling, although magic is like being a face - you can get away with a middling dice pool more than a street samurai can.  The spell selection is nice, although I would probably replace fireball with a ranged direct combat spell - one indirect spell should be plenty, and direct combat spells are really the workhorse for most mages.  You explained the lack of summoning/binding, although this still limits him a lot.  It's like being a technomancer without sprites, or a rigger without drones.

Overall, pretty good, just in need of maybe some minor tweaking.  I would have liked to see some specializations, but they are good enough to survive their first few missions and buy some.
