Well with Mass Effect 3 on the horizon, I figured people might want to talk about there impressions of the Game Series.

I rather enjoyed it, as it seems to be a reconstruction of space opera updated for the modern era and sensibilities. I've heard complains about the Asari being fan service only (hey people, sex sells), but if you look closely, they are as screwed up as the rest of the races. It's managed that epic feel for me, and the dialogue does feel like a long movie, Which I like. it also lampshades itself and sci-fi in general if you pay close enough attention.

thoughts?
Tech dreams of organic toys
And I'm runnin' out on the edge
Soft screams of the rockerboys
Echoing through my head

Since the only issues I had with ME2 was an activation overload problem I think ME3 will be a Day 2-7 purchase for me.

But yeah, loads of fun with those two so far.
Power corrupts.
Absolute power is kinda neat.

Thoughts?

Mass Effect + skins = Shadowrun.  Alien/metahuman races, a good mixture of tech, guns, and "magic," assassins, rogue cops, mercenaries, crazy doctors, gene-tweaked perfectionists...what's not to love?

I've been saying for years, all we need are the right mods/skins for the Mass Effect series, and we've got a Shadowrun game 99% done.  ;)  The ME games have everything I love about Shadowrun, so it's just natural for me to love the ME games.

Don't forget Jack. If she ain't a shadowrunner, slap some tusks on me and call me Bull.

One Bull isn't bad enough?

Anyhow, you don't have a cyberdeck strapped to your arm.  You'd be like the cheap Hong Kong knock-off of Bull.

Recently decided to unearth Baldur's Gate for some nostalgia playing. Bioware's come a long way since then, haven't they?

"Go for the eyes, Boo!"
That line is in Mass Effect 2:

When Tali summons her combat drone, Chiktikka vas Paus, she'll sometimes yell, "Go for the optics, Chiktikka! Go for the optics!"

Yes.
Minsc from Baldur's Gate, with his hamster Boo.

Sorry, his "miniature giant space hamster" Boo.

"Go for the eyes, Boo."

This is also why, if you purchase the space hamster in ME2, you get a "knowing smile".

It was also referenced in Fallout, where "Eye" was one of the target options.  One of the companions (I think) would call out, "Go for the eyes".

Chiktikka vas Paus is also itself a reference to Chiktikka Fastpaws from Baldur's Gate.

Speaking of Baldur's Gate...  I just got this in my E-Mail.

Looks like I'll have to hit EB Games (Canada's GameStop) or Wally-World.

I might need to do the same, twice. Once for me and once for my roomie, who's still trying to finish her games on some of these but finding the original copies don't work so well with Windows 7.

Looks like there's a similar collection for the Neverwinter Nights games.
