Okay so I have a problem. I'm still pretty new to the game having only played in three different games before. Now a friend of mine needs another player and the team needs a face, and thats fine I'll do it. However in every game I've played I've been a hacker or a technomancer...so basically I'm not sure what to do. What is more important to a face? Contacts and the influence skills I know, but what else? And the biggest thing is I never really set up jobs or showcased my team before. Anyone got any tips?

There are alot of ways to go here, as the social skills will not take up all your resources.  Obviously, you want a high charisma.  If going the augmented route get Tailored Pheromones and a Vocal Range Modifer.  If going the adept route get Kinestetics.

From there you can take the character a number or directions.  You can take a truckload of contacts and be the networking and legwork specialist for the team.  You could pick up a bit if infiltration and disguise and  take either False Front or Facial Sculpt and you become an infiltration specialist that sneaks through security rather than around it.  Or take a decent agility and reaction and some combat skills and you are a backup combat character.  You won't be as good as the street sami but you can have decent skills and a level of wired reflexes without alot of trouble.  Its really up to you where you take the character.

Just remember that if you planning on being a face in the meatworld you will find yourself in melee range a lot of the time. Think about having a good melee combat skill set, or at least a good full defense, to get you out of those situations when the talks head south and you are less than a meter away from the target sitting across the table from you. Or I guess just plan on being faster than the baddies and have as much perception as you can pack to catch them before they act.

The Face character is a big catagory.   You might want to define what you would most like to play.  Your comfy with techies and a cybered Face works really well.  Is there any fictional characters concepts you would like to incorporate into the character or base the character off of?  You can also base the character around a aspect of the Face job you want to master.  Want to hear what hou are interested in focusing on to build from there.

Faces come in a lot of... well faces.

You can be a Shaman Face, Adept Face, Techo/Hacker Face, and just plain old Pornomancer. First Impression is almost a must, and Linguistics is a cool quality.

1) Ask your GM if he's allowing the use of Empathy Software. If he is, then that is 6 dice for you right away. A Technomancer can keep that running as one of his Complex Forms.

2) Contacts are key. Yours and your teammates. There's no rule that you can only speak with your own contacts, ask for an intro.

3) What kind of Combat role do you want to take with your group? Not all Faces meet face-to-face, some have the Chatty quality and do their stuff through the Matrix. If the campaign and team leans towards the Matrix you may want to either support that further by specializing that way, or branch out into the meat.

4) The Stealth Skill Group goes hand-in-hand (hand to face?) with Influence.

Well I'm attempting to branch out in character creation so I probably won't do a hacker face. But I think I might but points into the close combat and stealth. Probably do some sort of infultraitor/face thing. And I was thinking about doing a martial art but I'm a little confused on the BP levels of the quality. ???

The Martial Arts is a bit confusing yeah:

For 5BP/10 Karma you can choose a Martial Art and pick one of the Advantages. For every 5BP/10 Karma you spend, you can buy two Maneuvers for a further 2 BP / 4 Karma each. If you want more Maneuvers, you can buy another Martial Arts quality (getting you another Advantage) for the same costs.

An Infiltrator Face is quiet and deadly. If you're going the Adept route you can do some cool stuff.

It is good to run a face with close up combat skills as you will be close.  Adding stealth is good, really good.  As a adept you can also get some charm your opponet power or read them.  Linguist ability, knowledge skills about the biz or area, eidetic memory, kenesics, etiquette, perception, and a great array of contacts.

Maybe you should have a lead in story to give me a place to start.

My last teams Face was named Neo.  She had a fun but convoluted backstory.  She was from the streets.  She was a former cybered Joygirl who had been adapted as a spy for her pimp.  Alot of her clients were money and once Neo told him some of the pillowtalk bragging he realized the gold he had been leaving on the table in the way of golden info.  Neo got fixed up with more cyber and now had the shifter package, as we call it in my group here, enhanced articulation, pheremones, facial adjustable control, hair color control, skin pigment, prints removed, and cyber eyes with programmable looks to them.  Pimp was big on versitility so he always had what the client wanted but it was really important now to have info gatherer be able to slide into any hot mark.

She also got a spy package, headphone, retractablr handrazor injectors, drug resevior, VCR, camera, datalock, and sensor recorder.  Her essence was dropping through the floor.  Now his Neo was making real money with the info stealing while she was loving biz.  She worked fine til she developed Cyber dissasoative disorder and the pimp planned to kill her to make room for the next big thing and have a cyber garage sale to a pay for her upgrade.  Neo turns the table on him by getting his clients to kill the pimp off by making him look like a undercover who was using her to get info on them all.  It worked and she switched to an alternate ID and took over the pimps penthouse.  Then she started running the shadows to fufill her needs for independence, control, and money.

Neo was a really good character and was the teams scout, lookout, back up, diversion, and wild card.  Right up til Jess had her baby and didn't game again for about a year.  It is really amusing gaming with a pregnant lady who is seducing right and left to get her way.

So you have anyone fun you would like to try and play?
