So I realize I'll likely attract a certain amount of trolls with this topic (pun intended), and so be it. I'm participating in a game based in Boston, and its been like 20 years since I last played Shadowrun, that being version 2.0, so I'd like to play a more simple character to learn the new aspects of 5.0. My favorite character has always been a Physadept, and I am a very story oriented player, so I was hoping for some suggestions for a Bostonian Physadept PC. I'm open to most of the metatypes, but I prefer to play humans, elves, and trolls, in that order.

Well "Adept" is a broad category as they do have some different viabilities.

They can be decent deckers, or of course (and customarily) combattants,. Infiltration specialists too. Faces.

Any of those roles you would prefer to aim for? If you pick a role (Face, Matrix Support, Samurai, Gunman) , i'm sure plenty of people here can help you optimize it from an Adept perspective.

...I developed a gunslinger/sharpshooter adept for the Chicago missions.  Burned out one MAG for bioware/genemods to give her a bit more edge due to the ambient BGC in Chicago which cripples many adept powers like Attribute Boost, Improved Attribute, Mystic Armour, Improved ability etc.

I'm assuming you want to concentrate on the core book.
The qi-adept (as the physadept is now called) comes in gun or melee flavor.

In priority I'd suggest the following:

A: Attributes B: Skills C: Magic D: Human E: Money

That gives you Magic 6 or 7 (with exceptional attribute) and a great base to build on.

BOD 5 AGI 5 REA 5 STR 1 CHA 1 INT 6 LOG 1 WIL 5: That leaves you with 3 points of attributes to distribute, depending on where you want to go (Melee: STR, Gun: LOG, Chameleon: CHA, or an even distribution) raise the other two 1s with 10 Karma each

Recommended Qualities:
Code of honor: Warrior (-15)
National SIN (-5) (Especially if you are a brawler without much hardware)

Mentor Spirit (5) (recommended: Dragon Slayer for Social/Gun, Eagle/Shark for Brawl, Bear for Brawl/Gun)
Exceptional Attribute (MAG or INT)
Quick Healer (3)

Recommended Skill Group at 5:
Stealth

You are low on money, so exchange up to 10 Karma for up to 20.000 NY

Recommended adept powers:
Improved Reflexes 3 (3.5 PP)
Attribute Boost AGI and BOD (0.25 each)
Combat Sense (0.5)

Get your main combat skill up to 6 and take a specialization (e.g. Gun: Heavy Pistols Melee: Strikes)

Get high Gymnastics for dodge tests (and because you are a phys adept ;) ).

Get an Armor Jacket and a Helmet + a Yamaha (6500 total), a viable SIN (R3 (7500), a reliable commlink with trodes (R3) (1070),
a weapon of your choice and a low level lifestyle in a cramped and dangerous environment (1600) + a Survival pack (100)

That's the skeleton I'd recommend to work from.

I'm going to play a combat adept. I'm leaning towards melee concentration. I thank everyone for build suggestions, I think they'll prove very helpful. At this point I'm more looking for concept inspiration. I am a very story oriented player and find it much easier to construct a character once I have a clear idea of the back story. Example: "Poor Charlestown human, boxing prodigy from early age,  quiet and withdrawn, known to have beaten aggressors to death on more than one occasion" Not really a very good example, hence my need for a muse. lol.

I think I may have found inspiration. The other runners are working with Knight Errant to sweep and rescue survivors of an MITT experiment gone horribly wrong, and my PC will be a belligerent and felonious troll in KE custody. Normally, being SINless its possible they'd just "disappear" him, but in lieu of ammo costs, paper work, and possibly loss of personnel they decide to release me into the custody of the other runners. I realize its a bit thin, but at this point its what I got.

So, Trolls get one dimensional real quick because of their cost.  And Unarmed is pretty niche, not particularly effective.  Certainly playable though.

Quick and Dirty Troll Physical Adept with an Unarmed Focus, you're 19 Karma upside down but you can pick up to 25 in Negative Qualities so you could still have a few karma to spend if you max out Neg Qualities.

This is in reference to Hobbes character:

Having two powers with a Drain 4 and only a Drain Pool of 8 isn't a good idea.
I suggest, Improved Reflexes[2], Attribute Boost(AGI)[1], Combat Sense[7], .75PP for whatever.

Pistols is rather limited.
I suggest swapping to automatics.
Warhawk is nice but giving your opponent -5 defense while going FA compensates for your DP.
Besides, there will be times when subtlety isn't an issue: wouldn't you rather be using an assault rifle then?

I'd swap the attributes and magic.
Yeah, you lose 2 edge and some skill points but then you can have WIL, REA and INT at 5.
