I really don't get this "old school" gaming thing. Do people keep putting these out because they're cheap and easy to make? Flash animation games are the same quality as this stuff.
There's always one PC who just can't go with the flow.  They have to have something that sets them apart.  Something blatantly obvious to everyone who plays with them.

There's a nostalgia element, but there's also the issue that you can put out an "old school" game together without a huge budget or a full studio of designers. That means that in a lot of cases the "old school" stuff is game types or concepts that aren't that interesting to the big studios, but have a market.

If you're someone who really digs on (for instance) Turn Based Strategy that's hugely cool since the big studios essentially only want to do RTS games (with the notable exception of X-Com and Civilization, both throwbacks in and of themselves).

Yeah I guess its a nostalgia thing. I started playing video games with Pong and things have come a long way since then. I guess its just not a niche for me, I like to look forward. I had a lot of fun playing Megaman for example, but I wouldn't break out my old NES (even if I had it still) when I could be playing something like Fallout 3.

Its good they can find backers for their project, but I would hope that its more a lead into better things. "Look we did X with a shoestring, how about a real budget" as opposed to them getting a bigger budget and just doing the same sort of thing.
