Using Edit File to screw up a smartlink is not RAW (or even RAI), but as always you can talk it over with your GM and see what you guys can come up with.

you can sleeze the edit file quickly
Edit File is a Data Processing action. You can do Edit File with a normal commlink. If the file is located on a device you need one mark on the individual File to use Edit File (if the file is located on a commlink you don't need a mark on the commlink to mark and/or edit a file).

To get the initial mark you need to either brute force it (which is an attack action that will alert the owner when you succeed) or hack on the fly (which is a sleaze action that will alert and give the owner a mark on your persona if you fail).

The Fork cyberprogram let you hack and edit two identical files at the same time....

since a smart gun should have a low defence
The defender (the Intuition part of the roll) of the file is the owner of the file (the owner of a file on a device does not need to be the same as the owner of the device). The firewall part of the roll comes from the device or the master's rating if the device is slaved to a master device (slaving your smartgun to your commlink to use the commlink firewall rating is probably not that uncommon).

You might or might not be able to use Control Device to prevent the weapon from shooting. Overriding the mechanical trigger.

According to control override at p.265; Remote control of the smartgun will will override the manual control of the smartgun. You need to control it once every IP for as long as you want to prevent the owner from regaining control (or at least for the IPs that the owner have initiative score to act in).

Fork let you override two devices at once. Ownership let you control an unlimited amount of devices. Besides fork and ownership you can split your pool over multiple devices you want to control.

Control Device is a sleaze action which cause OS and on a fail the owner will gain control, be alerted and get a mark on your persona.

You also first need to gain mark(s) on the smartgun. Preventing the smartgun from shooting during an entire IP might probably be considered a complex action which require 3 marks(?)

(...and after the owner go Wireless OFF or reboot his smartgun he will regain control of it again)

It would take...  Rather a lot of hacking.  At best, you could get marks on two guns at a time.  And there's not really any means of causing a malfunction like that per RAW.
Actually, the rules on bricking have this:
Quote from: Page 228 (emphasis mine)
If a device is bricked, it stops working: batteries are drained, mechanical parts are fused or gummed up with melted internals, and so on. That said, not all devices are completely useless when bricked. A vibrosword is still sharp, a roto-drone glides to the ground on auto-gyro, a lock stays locked. The firing pin on an assault rifle might not work, but its bayonet works just fine for stabbing smug hackers.
So fluff-wise, you might be able to completely disable firearms (albeit not by manipulating marks, but simply by bricking).

Yes. Bricking is a good option (and probably the "norm" when you want to disable someone's firearm), but it is also is pretty obvious (data spike is a attack matrix action that will inform the owner that he is under attack - as well as the normal sparks n stuff that follows when a device take matrix damage). During a combat situation you would probably try to brick the smartgun rather than temporary overriding it.

Getting marks with hack on the fly as well as control device are both sleaze actions. It will take more time but it will be very subtle. Target will not be aware that his equipment is hacked (unless you fail of course). Since Smartgun can fire the weapon wireless you can also prevent (override) the weapon to manually fire (remote control have higher priority than manual operations).

Target will pull the trigger fire. Nothing happens. Confusion. Will he try again next action phase? Will he reboot the device? Will he pull another weapon? ...will he look inside the barrel to see if there is anything stuck in the barrel (this would be a good time to remote control the device to open fire) ;)

Bricking is faster, but more obvious. A direct confrontation approach.
- Relying on cybercombat and attack attribute for limit. (The dark side of the force!)
Controlling take more time to set up, is more subtle. A stealth approach.
- Relying on hacking plus electronic warefare and sleaze attribute for limit.

Oh, yeah. If you use my thing talk it over with your GM ahead of time. Edit File can certainly shift the image of the smartlink or mess with the feed, but what that -does- mechanically is up to the GM. As a GM I'd not let it get stronger than inverting the bonuses.

Bricking is a lot faster, especially if you have an Agent and Fork. Assuming their guns are slaved to a commlink you'll probably be dealing with 9 or so dice on defense and soak, meaning you want around DV 13 if at all possible. Your not doing this with the Hermes Chariot but it is certainly possible.

I like how this discussion is going, it's really informative for someone (oh oh me!) who hasn't played shadowrun before. That said, i agree with you guys that the mechanics is up to the GM to decide. What i wanted was to flat out stop the attack, especially from the big guns like the assault rifles and rocket launchers. Of course this would require several complex actions (mark the target, find the file, crack the file, edit the file) before you could stop the attack, but it gives the impression that the gun stopped working for some reason.

It gives the impression that either the gun is stopping because a big boss wants to stop, but at the same time you don't have to keep concentration on that gun.

On the other hand, just flat out bricking the gun is a faster yet more obvious option, and usually what gives the decker away, especially his location

Matrix actions listed with Attack attribute tell the target that he is under attack on a success. on a fail the decker will take unresisted damage (the new matrix protocol make device fight back automatically). The owner of the device does not notice a failed attack.

Successful Sleaze actions are not noticed at all. Failed Sleaze actions make the owner aware that he is under attack and also give the owner a mark on the Decker's persona.

Bricking only involve attack actions. So either the decker take unresisted damage (and the owner does not notice anything) or the device take matrix damage that you can resist (and the owner is informed that his device is under attack). Attack actions will not mark the hackers persona though....

Bricking isn't the same as causing a specific malfunction.  If you brick a gun, there's no possibility that the guy carrying the gun isn't aware of it.  If you rig a gun to jam, he doesn't know until he tries to fire it.
