Under the way of the Burnout it specifically says that all benefits (reduced essence cost) remain even when the way isn't followed anymore. But what about other ways? What happened when you leave it?

There are only 2 ways listed of leaving a Way.

1: You burn out. p177 says that you must pay back any discounted powers, but you're allowed to keep the metamagics.

2: You are a Burnout and gain 2 Magic Rating points, keeping the benefits up until then.

I am not aware of any other ways of leaving a Way. But if the GM allows this for any reason, I'd follow the burn-out method: Keep the metamagics but pay back discounted powers as said on p177.

I'd say you keep the metamagics, as long as you don't join another Way.

Michael: don't you mean joining the Burnout's Way instead of burning out? If you actually burned out, you'd be at 0 Magic, so 0 Initiate Grade, 0 PP, and 0 discounted powers. In fact, that blurb indeed suggests you can change Ways through a method that isn't described in the book.
Just remember, though: considering the Karma cost, it's probably best if you don't lose your Way.
